Half of my hoard of chickens got sick and were unable to move. My pawns are now feeding them my meals. I've got lots of vegetables and kay in the freezer, can I tell my pawns to use those insead?
The meat in meals they're eating is expensive.

For years I have been using the DRM version of the game mostly because it's what I'm used to and it works.
I do like a lot of quality of life mods, but increasingly I and finding it harder to find some of them anywhere but on steam.

So my question revolves around creators and their updates to the mods.
I've heard that steam auto updates any mods you have installed. And I've also heard of horror stories of creators updating their mods and ruining save files.

How common is this? And is it something that should concern me when switching over?

As topic asks, I am soon ready to start a new colony. I know Tynan pushed through an update (I think on Steam) to help deal with the turrets causing lag issue. Was Sendowl also updated?
Thanks.

Off-Topic / Overwatch: Is it worth buying?
June 05, 2017, 07:32:46 AM
Overwatch is on sale ending today and I am very much on the fence about buying it.
Certainly looks fun, and I do enjoy competitive shooters.

Have any of you played it? What do you like/dislike about the game?
I'd love to hear from both sides.
Thanks.

Off-Topic / Human traffick debate

I wonder, why people get so emotional about anything being close to rape, while nobody gives a second look to things like harvesting organs?

The reason rape gets people so much more emotional that murder or organ harvesting is because it happens much, MUCH more frequently. It hits home to so many people. It brings back terrible and painful memories of things that should never have happened.

  • Worldwide, it is estimated that 1 in 3 women (1.17 Billion) will experience sexual assault in their lifetime.
  • Worldwide, 700 million women were forced into marriage before the age of 18.
  • 250 million of those women were married before the age of 15.
  • About 1 in 10 women worldwide (120 million) will experience forced intercouse or other sexual acts in their lifetime.
Source. (Which also lists their own sources)

And incase you needed more statistics here is a link for Victims of Sexual Violence: Statistics in America, which they state (among other statistics):

  • On average, there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States.
  • As of 1998, an estimated 17.7 million American women had been victims of attempted or completed rape.
  • 94% of women who are raped experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms during the two weeks following the rape.
  • Approximately 70% of rape or sexual assault victims experience moderate to severe distress, a larger percentage than for any other violent crime.

The point here is there should be a definite line on what is acceptable and what is not. The fact that rape and sexual assault it STILL a major problem in today's world, a problem that affects 1/3rd of ALL women. Having a mechanic in game that resonates badly with so many people is a terrible idea.

Ideas / New Apparel: Footwear
May 11, 2017, 09:12:37 PM
We have hats! Why not footwear?

Each could have their own benefits, such as:

Running Shoes - Increased Walk Speed
Work Boots - Decreased Walk Speed, Increased Work Speed
Sandals - Increased Heat Resistance
SnowBoots - Decreased Walk Speed, Increased Cold Resistance, Increased Walk Speed in Snow
Generic Shoes - No 'Unhappy Nudity' Debuff **
(All 'minor' buffs and debuffs of course)

** Which brings me to my next point: I sure would be some unhappy about not wearing any shoes in these harsh environments. Scorching Desert? -30 Degree winter? Trekking through the jungle? You better believe you need your shoes!

I understand the way pawns are currently portrayed they don't really have 'visible' legs or feet. So portraying shoes may seem weird, but why show them at all? They could still appear in the gear section just with no on screen animation. There's a mod that makes hats invisible even though the pawns are wearing them. So why not shoes?

I was watching a stream yesterday and they were saying how Randy is easy compared to Cassandra. I would have thought the opposite as you could receive multiple major events in short succession, whereas Cassandra would be predictable and spaced out.

So what are your thoughts?

Lately in my playthrough Randy has been very kind on the raids and seems to have a major drop pod fetish. Perhaps they are right...

As topic says: does standing water freeze in temperatures below 0°c?

I usually play in boreal forest biomes, and in the past I thought I remembered shallow and deep water freezing over (apparent by snow collecting on top). You can see this happening with marshy soil.

I noticed my past few playthroughs this was not the case. The water stayed open in winter at -30°c temperatures. I don't know if I remember incorrectly or if a mod is potentially causing issues.

Mods / Help Finding Mod: Movable Workbenches
December 11, 2016, 08:55:23 AM
Hello folks,

Anybody know of a Mod that allows you to move workbenches? It bugs me to have to deconstruct and rebuild my workbench every time I need it moved slightly. Thanks.

General Discussion / Maximum Days to Stave off Withdrawl?
November 07, 2016, 01:18:23 PM
I have a colonist who currently has an addiction to Wake-up. With no current means to produce more, and a small supply of the stuff, I would like to make him take as little as possible to negate serious effects of withdraw.

Setting him to a 'No Drug' policy I have been forcing him to take some whenever the warning message pops up about his withdraw, (Usually when it reaches 50%).

My question is if I were to set up a policy for him, how often would he have to take it to reduce significant effects of Withdrawal? It only seems to be a problem (as far as I can tell) when it reaches 50% and he receives a massive mood debuff.
Also, how quickly does Withdrawal increase?

General Discussion / Sterile Tile and Food Poisoning
October 31, 2016, 06:51:39 PM
Would Sterile Tile where your stove and butchers table is reduce the chance of a pawn receiving Food Poisoning?

As in your hospitals it helps prevent Infection, you think it would help with your food as well.

Anyone know? The Wiki on Sterile Tile does not mention anything other than infection.

I recently shot down an innocent Thrumbo for its horn, leather, and meat. After downing it I captured it and set my doctor to heal the gentle beast for Medicine training, as I usually do.
Shortly thereafter I received a message that it had Bonded with my doctor and I noticed it appears in my animal list as a Tamed Animal.
Is this normal? Never before have I had an animal tamed while doctoring, let alone been able to tame a Thrumbo.

Just playing through the game and this error started popping up continuously. I do not recall performing any actions in particular, I think I was just looking around the map at the time.
Maybe someone else has a better idea what's going on.

Attached is my save file and Output log. Let me know if there is any other information I can provided.

Good afternoon everyone.

As the game is now released on Steam this has got me thinking. Will the Mods be different on Steam as opposed to how we have always installed and played with them?

I do have Steam but have never used it to install mods on any game. The current system works well for me. Simply downloading them and putting in a folder is quite simple. But I imagine Steam works a little different.

Are we going to be able to play with the same Mods on both versions? Or will the creators have to adapt or create them for both Steam and Non Steam?

General Discussion / Are Older Pawns more Skillful?
June 29, 2016, 08:41:46 PM
Something I've noticed is that older pawns seem to be much more skillful than younger ones. They generally have better overall stats and usually a Burning Passion to go with it. They also seem more likely to have worse overall health.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I crazy? It would be a cool if this were intentional.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but simply an observation I have made.

I was mining out a small hill/mountain to create a kill box. I would continuously expand the "No Roof Area" because I didn't want any colonists getting crushed. But there was one spot that would not disappear. Hovering the mouse over this spot revealed it to be an "Overhead Mountain".
Now the part I found odd is that every single space around this spot had been set to a "No Roof Area". There was the rest of the mountain nearby acting as walls to support this roof. But with all the roofs around it removed it would seemingly be floating in mid air.

I created a new World/Colony with no mods to test this out. Here is what I did to replicate it:
1) Find a small hill/mountain.
2) Mine through the center of the hill to find an Overhead Mountain spot.
3) Keep mining until every Overhead Mountain spot is surrounded by at least two Thin Roof spots. (1st Picture)
4) Expand the "No Roof Area" to this entire section. (2nd Picture)

*Note: The "No Roof Area" is active in the first picture.
As you can see the Overhead Mountain would be floating in the air. There's no roof to support it. I also went one more and mined out the rest of the hill only to have the Mountain collapse (which I expected).

This was a very minor issue for me as I was trying to clear out the area so that raiders would have nothing to use for cover when attacking.

Hello. I have been looking for a mod that makes drafted colonists move to locations set by the player.

I streamer I've watched lately has a colony of 25+ colonists. Every time there is a raid he mass drafts all his colonists, moves them all to one location in a room by his main wall, then they all seemingly disperse themselves along his very long defensive wall. I have never seen him move the colonists individually, (except when he has a new recruit), they just seem to know where to go.

Anyone know which mod I am talking about?
Thanks
