General Discussion / Doomsday Rocket - its that good???
January 18, 2017, 06:09:33 PM
Had a raider pop off a doomsday on me last night. He hit my walled in generator causing like 90% damage, but also a huge area in front of the generator (he targeted a chicken I think). There were like 30+ tiles on fire right away.

All of that is OP enough, but the most amazing thing? The blast DESTROYED HIS CLOTHING. He was running around nude and bloodied till we cut him down. This type of thing is just... demoralizing. lol :P

Ideas / "Water Bomb" or "FirePopper Mortar"

maybe even being able to launch water bombs to fight forest fires from afar. Also launching captured pirate members at the attacking pirate crew would be hilarious

Saw this in the mortar page. Wanted to expand upon it. Adding a mortar that shoots a fire fighting agent would be really cool. We already have fire poppers. Maybe we can add a firepopper mortar- even place it in the tree so it requires both mortars and fire poppers to have been researched. This would make the random forest fires that start and kill your whole map easier to combat. Also- launching pirates is cool. lol. Quoted PrincessZulu because it was her idea.

If I have 2 friendly colonists directly adjacent armed with ranged weapons. Can they friendly fire each other by accident? I was under the impression this could not happen. I've read on here this could not happen several times. I've never had this happen. Can it happen?

General Discussion / Sandbags Speed Penalty Question
January 11, 2017, 12:41:30 PM
Someone posted this on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1216222208461286&set=gm.1762637380724602&type=3. They are saying U shaped sandbag defenses don't apply the speed penalty to attackers? I am sure Ive seen attackers get a penalty for going over my own U shaped defenses. Thoughts? Confirmation 1 way or the other?

General Discussion / A Major Problem For New Players
September 30, 2016, 10:27:00 AM
I've got about 35 hours in Rimworld. Not enough to say I am a seasoned player, but enough to where I understand a good amount of core game mechanics. My biggest complaint, and a frustration I have seen from others here, on steam reviews, and steam discussions, is the lack of instruction on the game's in depth systems.

For instance. I didn't even know you could do peg legs until 24 hours into the game. I still do not know how to use the restrict zones/items, and I spent a good 3 hours trying to figure it out, and ended up walking away from my computer so I wouldn't slam anything in rage. It took me until 20 hours to figure out why the hell my stonecutter table never allowed me to do anything (needs chunks near it- the in game message states "needs materials- the same as every other crafting station. Make these unique to each station/table/bill). There are many layers to the game I do not understand even though I have tried to troubleshoot/experiment with them in game. I am 25, and have been playing strategy/survival/heavy rpgs for 13 years. . . I am not stupid. A good majority of the people posting about this on steam, and on here, are not stupid.

The tutorial/help is way underdeveloped. It should teach you all core mechanics of the game, and show you how all pawn mechanics/management tools work. I understand I will need my phone open to the wiki, that's just how games are now a days (thanks Bethesda...), but the game is full of options and controls it does nothing to enlighten the player on the details of their use (or even their existence tbh).

I did not quit the game because I could see this really is a great game, with an active dev team (one guy?). However, I do not know if other new players have been so forgiving when getting frustrated because the game won't show them how to do things they want to do, even though they know it is possible to do.

I also understand this game is in alpha/EGA. This isn't something I am saying "do now or everyone will quit". I am saying before you release out of EGA, this should be addressed.

General Discussion / A15 Trader/Money Questions
September 27, 2016, 01:04:52 PM
1. I am in dire need of components. I have about 2k silver. Which trader should I summon? I had a bulk goods guy come, but he only had 3.

2. Should I sell my 3k corn/2k potatoes as is, or should I make it into simple meals?

3. What other products than corn/potatoes should I be growing to make money? (9 colonists. Summer of year 2. Not enough power for Hydroponics atm- See #1).
