Stories / The story of Peggy
June 06, 2017, 03:17:16 AM
This is the story of Peggy, the double peg-legged veteran.
-This story is not 100% accurate as to what happened to Peggy, it is a work of fiction inspired by his tale-

At the age of 20 Peggy was conscripted into the military. His job was a gunner on the RSS Floriana, a mighty space vessel complete with over 40 guns.
It was Peggy's first battle against the Violet Husk, he took station at his cannon. When the order came Peggy lined up a shot, he fired. As the shell tore through the enemy ship Peggy watched in horror, as dozens of crew flew out the tear in the hull, the gunner's deck depressurizing. With shaky legs Peggy took a step back, what had he done? Amidst the shrapnel filled bodies Peggy watched, as an enemy shell made it's way through the battlefield and into the side of the Floriana. In an instant Peggy was thrown back, his ears ringing and his vision blurred. The blast doors closed, hiding the devastating battle from Peggy's eyes. Peggy lay there, winded, as the battle medics entered the room. He expected them to pass him by but they gave him a worried look. Peggy stared down at what used to be his legs, they were now a crippled mess. Pieces of jagged shrapnel stuck out of his calves, and a chunk of his shin was missing. As the medics pulled him onto a stretcher, Peggy's vision went black.
Peggy awoke to the sound of an alarm, he looked around and saw he was in an escape pod. Trying to stand Peggy realized that he couldn't feel his feet, he was instead greeted with two oak stumps starting from below his knees. As Peggy got his bearings he relived his recent experience, his heart started beating fast, his breathing intensified. Calming himself Peggy swore an oath, that he would never hurt a living soul again.
Peggy now lives out a peaceful life as a rice-farmer for the town of Uruk. He is constantly harassed and can do nothing to better his situation. Peggy once saw his new legs as a curse, but after working many seasons in the harsh rice-fields of Uruk, Peggy now sees his stumps as a blessing, for he will never get trench-foot.
