So this is a story about Big Boss and her job as the supervisor in one of Vinland's Finest brewery expansions. I created a custom scenario in honor of my most successful colony "Vinland", which made it's money by brewing beer. I ran with "Leadership" mod, as I wanted this colony to have a leader character in dictatorship setting. Randy took care of the fun random things that would happen.
Beniko Hailsham earned her nick name "Big Boss" for her work in this sector's greatest brewery, Vinland's Finest. She finally earned her chance when she was offered the post of the leader in a upcoming planetary expansion expedition. Big Boss and her hand picked experts, including her husband Mikhail "Bob" Hailsham (formerly McMahon) the famous chef.
Surely as a survivor of an apocalypse and distinguished barkeeper, Big Boss had what it takes to run a outer rim colony.
Little she knew how wrong she was.
Big Boss made sure that she and Bob would live the life of luxury, while others slept in a barracks they had a luxurious and spacious room for themselves. As it is fit for management type.
Big Boss had a secret she had kept hidden from her bosses back in Vinland, she had a fascination for chemicals. Surely this wouldn't be an issue as a leader of a brewery, surely.
The base construction went without a hitch and their first batch of beer, albeit small, was done. Big Boss send her best friend Lilith, who was their best negotiator, just barely better than Big Boss herself, with their only pack dromedary to a nearby settlement.
On her way, Lilith encountered a raged fennec fox. Lilith was a strong believer of non violence, aspect that Big Boss had forgotten. The fennec fox proceed to eat poor Lilith alive, one nibble at a time. Legend still has it, that on the roads to "Sympathy's Misery" one may encounter ferocious drunken fennec fox.
The loss of her good friend hit hard on Big Boss, and triggered her first of many binges on beer. Big Boss promised to herself, that she wouldn't make same mistake ever again.
Nearby their settlement, there lurked an ancient danger. With the help of passing strangers, Big Boss decided to raid this ancient structure.
Everything went fine, only the passing strangers took casualties.. but not until Big Boss took a doomsday rocket in the face..
Big Boss being cut from the rougher stuff, survived this ordeal. Although she lost her jaw and right leg. For days she hopped around with one leg before getting a wooden peg. Her missing jaw made it hard for her to lead her people though. Her popularity was in the drains. Only her husband Bob gave her support.
Big Boss tried to pull her part by trying to recruit prisoner from a recent raid, but her missing a jaw only left he prisoner terrified. So Big Boss had to step down from the warden position and give it to a new rising star saved from that blasted ancient building. Lumine "Lumi" LeBlanc had quickly gained popularity within the colony.
Determined to regain her popularity, Big Boss had not touched any substances for a while and decided to lead their next caravan herself. So it was, that Big Boss departed with two guards to sell off their new batch of beer.
While Big Boss was away however.. a tribal raid happened.
The raid was bloody, as somehow the tribals were smart enough to split into 3 groups and attacked 3 of 4 entries to the colony at the same time. Many were injured, yet miraculously there was only one casualty. A pila thrown by the tribal leader's son had pierced Bob's brain. Bob died in an instant.
Bob's body was stashed away in a remote fridge, awaiting Big Boss's return.
Upon arriving back home, Big Boss received this devastating news of her husband's demise. This was what finally broke Big Boss. As she buried her husband, she only felt emptiness. Emptiness that only substances would fill..
Binge after binge, Big Boss proceeded to consume any kind of drug that the colony might have found. Many times collapsing from overdose right in the main storage room. Warnings from the colony doctor went to deaf ears as Big Boss went to find something to drown her sorrows with as soon as she could walk again.
After drinking almost half of their beer reserves, Lumi and the rest of the colony had had enough of Big Boss's behaviour. "Famer" Trujillo went to imprison their drunken leader Big Boss. Big Boss resisted, SHE was the leader after all. Other members of the colony rushed into help, but not before Big Boss had ripped off Farmer's right hand.
Big Boss was thrown into the prison and Lumi declared herself the new leader of the colony.
To this day, "Big Boss" Hailsham sits in her cell, mourning her losses. Unable to communicate with others with her missing jaw.. but as life would have it, Big Boss's saga is yet to meet it's end.
**UPDATE**
One night Big Boss woke up to alarming screams outside "The ancient ones are coming!". She could only the sounds of a vast battle just outside the settlement gates. Eventually the sounds of battle died out.
The settlement had rebuked a raid by the ancient machines. This battle had a cost, one of the colonist was shot dead as a shot from a power lance pierced his torso, destroying his lungs.
And "Lumi" had taken a shot to her spine, making her unable to move ever again.
"Dacapo", one of the original handpicked elites had lost his brother in the nightly raid. He never liked the idea of settling in open, even if it meant more farming land. Dacapo started spreading the idea of moving away, to nearby mountains and creating a new settlement inside those mountains.
Everyone soon agreed.
The work started few days later, launch pads were erected and transform pods soon followed. All but two colonists left. "John" and "Yue", Dacapo's wife stayed behind. John took care of cooking and caring for Lumi and Big Boss. While Yue deconstructed the non-essentials of the settlement and sent all of the materials to the new settlement.
When Yue was done with her task, it was time for her and John to leave. But before stepping into the transport pod, Yue went to release Big Boss.
As Yue cut the Big Boss's bonds, she told her "We are leaving. The fields are full and there are some food in the fridge. I left few components for repairs. Take care of Lumi and do not follow us."
Big Boss could only stare as Yue turned to walk away..
But Big Boss would not give up. Never.
She took care of Lumi, trusting her old turrets to take care of any dangers.
She would prevail, trusting that new workers would arrive some day.
