Help / LF a list of mods that use XML patching only
February 02, 2022, 06:03:51 AM
I'm looking for a list of mods that use XML patching only. I'm not interested in mods that use assemblies. Is there a way to get a list of mods like this or would I need to go through them one by one and check in the folder structures? I guess I've already started making a list like this for myself but ultimately it would be useful if the mods could be sorted like this on the forum or labelled clearly. There seems to be no naming conventions for mods and I find that my lists are an absolute mess and I need to reorganise them daily.

I've just started a new colony on RimWorld with only Royalty + Ideology installed. No mods. Immediately noticed that while the zoning works, it's not visible. So you can still add and remove zones, but they don't show up at all.

I kept playing for a few hours and realized how bad it was going to be having to remake and delete zones all the time and 'wing it'. Otherwise the game plays fine so far.

I've also deleted all cache files and reinstalled the game several times. I've even redownloaded from Ludeon thinking maybe files were corrupted. No dice.

The error log was too big to send but I've simply copy pasted the relevant bits (the beginning and the end) and have removed the 999 instances of the same error. I think you get the picture!

Ideas / Bestower annoyed with interference
October 13, 2020, 10:55:49 PM
It would be nice if her snobness would at least tell the plebs why she's annoyed and has decided to leave. Guessing or going on forums to find out why and then trial and error fixing the issue is tedious and breaks the fourth wall.

General Discussion / New Blight = dumb
August 03, 2020, 09:02:21 AM
I'm probably opening a can of worms here but the new blight is dumb. I guess I noticed that lots of people were vocally complaining about the way the old one worked but I did not in my wildest dreams think that they would one day be taken seriously because it was seriously fine the way it was.

Now it's like every plant in a crop gets hit immediately so if you only had time to plant one crop and it was a map with 10 days growing period you now have to hunt for 3 quadrums instead and no fine meals for you! Makes Naked Brutality runs so much fun on tundra!

My suggestion would be to put it back the way it was because obviously next time I see people complaining about something that was good the way it was I will make sure I complain and challenge them vocally and publicly because 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' or something. I'll have to do things like this that are completely not in my nature, because every smart person knows that you don't go on someone's whiney thread (like this one) and feed their 'negative energy'. But I'll remember next time that my job is to fight the complainers and 'make sure my voice is heard' too so I can constantly live in the fear that a good mechanic will one day be removed because some babies (like me) whined about it.

Right now it gets disabled completely in scenario startup, because it was fine the way it was where you had to work to save part of the harvest. The new blight looks a bit to me like 'spoonfeeding'. So you have to harvest the whole crop and you get part of the harvest back whereas before you could do this anyway if you were proactive or used zones correctly. Yeah I get that people don't like using zones or work schedules but seriously this is your limitation - not mine.

Ideas / Suggestion for thread deletion
August 01, 2020, 11:19:33 AM
It's frustrating to spend time typing out a response on a thread only to have the thread creator delete the thread later on. For people who value their time it's doubly frustrating as we don't post much on forums, only when we see we can give genuine advice.

Suggestions:
- for those who played the original DOTA they will remember an addon that everyone was using, I don't remember the name, but it told you when a 'leaver' entered your game so you knew to kick them; similarly, the forum could have a label next to a user's name after a certain number of posts have been deleted that would label them as a 'deleter'
- alternately, make it so threads cannot be deleted by the thread creator
- alternately, make it so threads can only be deleted after petitioning by the thread author (and in most cases mods would refuse as the thread would contain the hard work of players responding)

N.B. editing or deleting posts obviously unaffected as we can just quote, thereby preserving the integrity/sense of the thread

Couple of minor suggestions:

- Please add sound effects to animals like turkeys, foxes and others that don't have them. Reason: when something goes manhunter on the other side of the map, you don't want to keep track of it the whole time it is on its way to your base. Sound effects will help players identify quickly when it's already nearby.
- Please change the way 'reserving' kills works. When a hunter finishes off a turkey, a coyote from the other side of the map shouldn't be able to 'reserve' it, forcing the hunter to leave the corpse there because it's now forbidden.

Thanks!

When I change my modlist on the DRM free version from the Ludeon site it has an option to restart 'Later' in red.

On Steam I can't see this option, it automatically restarts the game.

This is an issue because I'm trying to load a modlist from a save, but the save is missing a mod (Harmony). I have Harmony subscribed on Steam and I don't want to have to manually check all the mods in this test game I'm running. Does anyone know how to configure the Steam version to NOT automatically restart when I change mods, so I can just enable the Harmony mod in the right place and THEN restart once the main modlist has been loaded?

Yesterday my save of about 100 mods loaded fine. I played it for a few hours on Friday and a bit yesterday. Today, I get error crash screen on startup telling me my mods are corrupt, even when I try to load from save.

I go to mod list in game menu and see that everything has been disabled. I also notice when I check just to see if I can enable Hugslib that it now requires Harmony as a separate dependency. (???!!!!???)

What's going on? How do I fix this? Do I just have to suck it up and spend a few hours debugging mods and trying to manually get them all in the same order? Not really what I was looking forward to tonight so while I'm pissed to abandon the story I had going on I'm perfectly happy abandoning this colony, and that frigging Steam garbage it came on and going back to my local copy of the game with a fresh start!

(Tynan if you're reading this please, please implement some in-game way of exporting your mod list so you can in theory move a mod list from Steam to local DRM-free. I mean obviously you'd still have to have a folder with all your mods in it but just some easy way I can get a good list of mods I figured out on Steam to load straight into the game on local DRM free would save SO much time.)

I could have sworn the mods were in the steamapps/workshop/content/294100 folder.

I tested by just downloading Hugslib and I see a folder in there numbered 1613783924, but it is empty.

Likewise, when I start the game, there are no mods but Core in the mod section.

The game just had minor update to 1.1.2551 while I was browsing mods... could this have made all the freshly updated mods incompatible? I think I'm wrong about this, because the mod folder is empty, but hopefully someone knows what's going on and can help.

Support / Setting Save Data Folder (Mac OSX)
August 29, 2019, 11:04:39 AM
I thought this worked for me in the past, now I realise it has never worked.

I want more than one copy of RimWorld on the same computer. One for modded medieval games and one for modded standard games. I only noticed that this was an issue today when I tried to create a separate folder/copy of the game for a medieval run and in the process broke my standard run.

In the readme file it says I can set the SaveData folder using the following syntax:
C:/RimWorld/RimWorld.exe -savedatafolder=SaveData

On my Mac, I type the following to achieve this, using the terminal, in the folder where the executable file is:
./RimWorldMac -savedatafolder=SaveData\

I get a black screen on startup and the following message in terminal in the background:
Mono path[0] = '/Users/[redacted]/Desktop/RW/RimWorldSpacer-2282Mac/RimWorldMac.app/Contents/Resources/Data/Managed'
Mono config path = '/Users/[redacted]/Desktop/RW/RimWorldSpacer-2282Mac/RimWorldMac.app/Contents/Data/Managed/etc'
Player data archive not found at `/Users/[redacted]/Desktop/RW/RimWorldSpacer-2282Mac/RimWorldMac.app/Contents/Resources/Data/data.unity3d`, using local filesystem

The way I understand this error, it's reverting to the default library/Application Support folder instead of using the one I specified. Indeed, when I look in the library/Application Support folder, I see all of my save games and save data. But now for some reason there's two versions of RimWorld pointing to the same place and I get black screens when I start either of them.

Can someone walk me through the exact process of setting up two copies of RimWorld on the same Mac? I'd like to have more than one for different kinds of games, instead of messing about with mod switching in the same game.

Help / Steam Mod Folder Organization
August 29, 2019, 09:40:15 AM
I have two copies of Rimworld - one on Steam and as a standalone. I use the Steam copy to get mods that don't exist on other platforms or to get mods that are updated on Steam and not on other platforms. When I download mods on Steam it is really irritating that the folders are numbered instead of named according to the mod title (so for example, 'Colony Manager' is '71556582'. I've gotten into the habit of manually renaming every folder one by one after I download it from Steam and before I copy it to my Rimworld mod folder in the second copy of the game.

What I'd like though is a more permanent solution. Has anyone figured out a way to download a mod from Steam without it being titled as a ridiculous arbitrary number? Does anyone know a way to download a Steam mod so that it is automatically titled according to the mod name? I'd like to skip the step where I manually rename the mods one by one. I'm looking for a way to just click the Steam 'subscribe' link and for the mod to go into my Steam mod folder named according to the mod title and not the random, arbitrary number of the mod.

Even if it's a script or something (I use a Mac) it would be much appreciated if someone has figured this out.

Stories / Agarilux the Magnificent
September 11, 2018, 06:53:21 PM
Agarilux the Magnificent - A RimWorld Story

Linnea, the old man and the boy ran through the jungle. They fled through the pouring rain as fast as they could. There had been no time for introductions. Their ship had malfunctioned and their pods had crashed on this forsaken planet. That is, Linnea and the boy had arrived in pods, wearing only the standard issue synthread pants and t-shirts of Cryo Travel Services. When their pods had crashed they could see the gigantic insects closing in from the direction of the sunrise. That's when the old man called out from behind some trees at the edge of the clearing on the other side of where the insects were.

'Quickly, this way!' Yelled the old man as he darted down a narrow path to his left.'I have a boat... near a river... we can get to safety there!'

Now they fled. They fled after the old man because an old man was the safer option. There were at least 5 of the gigantic insects close on their heels. Linnea had seen them in a travel brochure before she was put into cryosleep. One of them was a megaspider, there were two spelopedes and three megascarabs. Despite her combat training in the Academy this was something she knew she couldn't handle, especially without a weapon.

They arrived at the edge of a river where there was a boat, packed full of supplies. Linnea's eye instantly drew to the bolt-action rifle and the revolver. There was also a plasteel knife. Not to mention a load of steel and wood, some survival meals and medicine. Things were looking up.

They leapt into the boat and the old man pushed away with the butt of the rifle after untying it from the moor. He picked up a longer piece of wood and began rowing, using it as a makeshift paddle. The water wasn't too deep so he could guide the boat easily down the stream. The insects leapt into the water and began swimming after them but it quickly became obvious that they were far slower in the water than on land.

Linnea's pulse slowed and her heart beat a little slower. The adrenaline subsided.

'So, old man, what's your name? I owe you... we owe you our lives.'

'My name is Mianata and I know of a safe place! You two, you both have the mark! You are blessed by Agarilux the Magnificent! You must come with me and I will teach you everything I know of the Great One.'

'My name is Linnea and I don't know anything about any mark. I don't know anything about any Great One either but I thank you for saving my life.' She looked at the boy. 'I don't know you. What's your name?'

'I'm White.'

'That's it?'

'That's it.'

'Fair enough.' Linnea looked at him warily. He looked to be about 18 years old, a bit frumpy around the ears. 'Are you a farmer?'

'How did you know that...?' He looked shocked.

'You look like a farmer. It's your hair. You've obviously never been to a place where people have a sense of fashion.'

'Now, now, children. That's not a good start to our great and glorious adventure to discover the true nature of Agarilux the Magnificent! No fighting please. There are enough troubles on this planet without us having to bicker as well. You will see when we get there, I know a wonderful place. And you two, you both have the mark. You will love it there.'

'What's this mark you keep speaking of?' White asked this time.

'My boy, you grew up on a farm but you always wanted to be somewhere else. You loved plants and your father was a cow farmer. You especially loved mushrooms, but you never had the time you wished you had to explore the forest and learn all you could about them because he made you cook and clean up after the cows all the time.'

'How in all the Glitterworlds do you know all this about me?' He looked at both Linnea and Mianata with anger.

"Agarilux the Magnificent told me you would come and the Great One told me everything about you!'

'Who is this Agarilux?' Linnea demanded.

'Linnea, your mother was cruel to you and you fled her house when you were 18. You stole her charge rifle and some packaged survival meals and all her silver and booked a trip on the first CTS ship you could find. You ended up at the Academy of the Stars and you worked hard to be a fighter pilot, practising your shooting skills. But you could never pass the exams and instead you became a starship janitor. You thought this was beneath you and you deserted your post and got onto another CTS ship... and now you're here. And you have the mark too!'

'There's no way you could know all this about us.' Linnea looked furious. 'You'd better start explaining things old man.'

'All in good time, my dear!' He chuckled as their boat sailed into the mouth of a gigantic cavern that looked like it was going to go deep into the bowels of this RimWorld to who knows where. But Linnea felt strangely comfortable as their boat sailed into the darkness and she relaxed. For some reason, she trusted this old man.

White had calmed down too. He looked visibly relieved as they went into the darkness.

===

Very shortly they arrived at a landing in the caverns. They disembarked from their boat and could see hundreds of glowing mushrooms lining the caverns on either bank. White knew them all, tears streamed from his eyes as he stumbled out of the boat, feet and pants wet up to his knees. But he did not care.

'They're all here! I've seen these only in botany books! There's the blue glowstool, the red noku and of course, the tall and purple Agarilux!'

'Your great one is a mushroom, old man?' Linnea suddenly connected the dots.

'Agarilux the Magnificent is the Greatest of All the Mushrooms, young one! In time you will be found worthy and you will meet him too! I have seen him walking in my dreams and in my dreams he talks to me!'

'If I didn't know any better I'd say you were high on smokeleaf, Mianata. But I know better and you don't look stoned to me.'

'Stoned?!' Mianata gave her a dark look. 'You would be wise to stay away from drugs, young lady! We won't have any of that stuff here!'

'Calm down, old man. I was just joking. I'm not into that sort of stuff.'

'What about you, boy? Did I make a mistake when I chose you?'

'Nope, if I'm taking your meaning. I don't do any drugs either. That stuff is bad and makes you think funny. Gets you killed.'

'Smart boy.'

'Besides, my father was always drunk and high on psycite. It was disgusting to look at. I never want to see him again.'

'Good. Now... well here we are! This is almost the place. It's down this tunnel. Quickly, take a weapon and take the survival meals, the medicine and the components that I've scavenged. We will need them straight away.'

Linnea found it hard to decide but in the end she chose the bolt-action rifle. 'I'll hunt.'

'Young lady there's only a few rats, hares and iguanas that stumble down here. We will mainly be eating mushrooms. But you're a good shot so you take the rifle.'

'I'll take the knife... for the plants.' White said.

Mianata took the revolver without a word and gestured down the tunnel ahead of them, it was lined with the purple, red and blue mushrooms and it was very easy to see where they were glowing as they provided enough light to see.

'There is a place at the end of this tunnel, at a confluence of tunnels. We will found our Temple to Agarilux the Magnificent there!'

'Great.' Linnea said. 'I always wanted to be a priestess.' She humphed sarcastically.

They headed down the tunnel.

===

When they arrived at the place Mianata had mentioned, Linnea and White could not have imagined a place of such beauty. There were three majestic pools of water, two on the west of a gigantic cavern and one on the east. In the middle of the three pools was a rocky area that looked to be a spacious cave with two entrances, one that opened onto the two western pools and another that opened onto the eastern pool. There was a third, smaller opening to the south of the central grotto.

'Now, boy. You must get to work straight away. We can plant mushrooms anywhere we want. Can you grow the noku yet?'

'I'm afraid I can't. I still don't know enough to plant their spores correctly. But I will learn in time, I promise!'

'No bother. Then you must harvest the full grown noku and plant Agarilux and glowstools around them. I'll leave you to figure out where just keep them close to this central grotto. This is where we will found our temple!'

White nodded, an excited gleam in his eye, and got to work. He began collecting Agarilux and glowstool spores and began planting them and tending to his new mushroom garden.

'Linnea, come and help me get the rest of the stuff, we will need it. We can leave the silver for now but we must secure the steel and the wood. We will start to build our temple with those!'

'Sure, old man. I'll help you. I really like it here for some reason. It's so... peaceful.'

'Yes, yes, yes. I told you you have the mark!'

They ran back down the tunnel and hauled the steel and the wood to the grotto. By the time they had finished their task Linnea was sweaty and slightly annoyed. She was also bored and wanted to do something else.

'Old man, I want to do something fun. We've been hauling things for hours.'

White was giddy with excitement and looked as happy as a boomalope in the rain.

'It's not fair, this kid has been doing what he likes.'

'Young lady life isn't fair but you still have time to put together a stone cutting table and lay out some basic plans. Tomorrow you will help me make stone bricks while I build our temple! White will continue working on the garden. But now I must rest. I bid you good night. Find a place to sleep!'

'Where?'

'On the ground! It's warm and refreshing here. Tomorrow we will build shelter and beds!'

Support / Looking for crash log - Mac OSX
September 01, 2018, 01:54:10 AM
My game keeps crashing about 10 minutes in. It drops to desktop with no warning. I'm running a lot of mods and I'm using the latest DRM free B19 version.

In the readme.txt it says I should search for output_log.txt in the Data folder to find out what went wrong. I can't find a file like this in the Data folder or anywhere else on my hard drive.

Any ideas? Where else can I look to see what went wrong?

I'd really like to play on a Boreal Forest map with any road and any river, preferably large hills. I have the Prepare Landing mod to make it easier. But my question is, how do I play with the base settings at world gen to get a planet with a lot of Boreal Forest (so Prepare Landing has more to sift through) without making it obscenely cold? None of the worlds I generate have any significant amount of Boreal Forest, so Prepare Landing can't find any tiles that meet my specs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have two copies of the game and I'd like to get them running in separate install locations but the Library/Application Support folder is really throwing me off (they both want to link to it no matter where I install them).

So I'd like to use my Steam account to run 0.19 games and I've also got a DRM free copy of the game from the site. I'd like to be able to run either of them at my leisure without the game telling me it updated and having to go through the trouble of moving mods around and the painful process of enabling them (because I use hundreds of mods).

Can anyone walk me through how to achieve this on Mac OS X? How do I tell a copy of Rimworld to stop looking at the Library/Application Support folder and use some other folder?

Appreciate any advice!
