Not sure if this is the issue, but the ceremony only has a CHANCE to grant a level of psylink. If the ceremony is not Fun or Unforgettable they won't get the psylink level. But I've always wondered how this meme works without royalty, that could be the problem too.

I usually have most of my non-pen animals unrestricted, but recently set them to a zone which includes all but a small part of the map (to keep them out of the Luciferium.) When restricted this way, they don't notice edible food in their area (even food they just hauled there).

In the picture you can see a starving Labrador which I sent to an area full of kibble and then immediately rezoned to her usual area before she started eating. She didn't leave the area, but didn't eat the kibble either. When I manually send them to the area full of kibble and don't set them back to their larger zone they do eat, so maybe it has to be a zone that covers most of the map for this to happen?

Edit: Not sure if it's related, but since restricting my colonists to the same zone, they are now feeding the prisoners raw food and kibble when meals are available. They have never done that before.

I've noticed now the starting meals are made of something your colonists don't like eating (e.g. insect meat or fungus if your ideo doesn't like those). do you have drug use restricted in your ideo? That might be related.

Edit: oh wait, you said no Ideology. Is your person a teetotaler?

Came to the forums to post this. Here's another picture, where you can see three crops growing in some spots. I also have no mods and both expansions.

General Discussion / Re: Insectoids and Tunnelers

I am aware of two major bug-fighting strategies. One is to use Vertigo Pulse, which is extremely effective, but relies on having a psycaster with vertigo pulse, something that is absolutely not guaranteed.

If you have a psycaster at all chances are they have something useful. Blinding pulse reduces melee hit chance, chaos skip can pull them off your people, etc. Once with some teamwork I managed to blink a psycaster in, berserk a megaspider, blink out, and watch it fight all the other bugs without ever agroing on a colonist. But yeah, in general vertigo pulse is my go-to and I buy psytrainers for it whenever I can.

I have two strategies for you:

1. Animal ganking. Train anything, even rats, to attack and send dozens to take the place of your melee fighters in your scenario. They will almost certainly die, but better them than a colonist. Once an enemy (any) is engaged in melee with someone it won't stop attacking them to chase someone, so your shooters can retreat to a safe distance once the animals arrive.

2. Shoot from afar. if you have people near the infestation when it starts, use the time before bugs arrive to have them deconstruct walls and uninstall furniture where they can to give your people a clear shot from as far away as possible. Then have your melee fighters line up right in front of your shooters. By the time the bugs get to you they will hopefully be weakened enough that the team can take them out before they do too much damage to your front line. You can also snipe them in the right circumstances, if your shooter is a good hunter they be able to stealth it.

Well... I explored the whole complex and found and hacked 3 terminals... it told me I'd hacked all of them, so I left... but the quest is still marked as active. I fear I may never get the Venerated Poleshadow :(

Update: The quest seemed to be going normally, until this message appeared instead of "terminal hacking completed."

As you can see in the screenshot, the game is displaying variable names instead of the intended information for this one quest (others are fine).

It may be worth mentioning that the faction listed at the bottom, Ineralior, was not one of the original world factions: it was a temporary beggar group that I betrayed (I believe one of them escaped alive). Their name is still in the faction list. I'm wondering if the game attempted to use a 'temporary' faction in an unexpected place and caused this issue. Or it could be that I killed their leader, and as a minor faction they never got a new one.

I have Royalty and Ideology installed and no mods. I can't say how one would go about reproducing this, but I have included the log (although it basically only says I couldn't connect to steam, which I often close). My save file is too big to post even zipped, is there any other way I can provide it?

I'm a little concerned that accepting this quest might cause undefined behavior, thoughts?

To be able to understand the issue going on here, I would need a save of this happening.  Please upload one on to google or drop box and link it here, thanks.
Ah, unfortunately I've already overwritten all of my saves since then. if it happens again I will try to grab a save at a relevant time.

Bugs / Trader pack animals leave map, cannot trade
July 27, 2021, 11:42:24 AM
I wondered why I didn't have the option to trade with my last trader. But when the next one came, I saw their muffalos wander off the map (more like exit the map with haste and purpose, actually) almost immediately, leaving them nothing to trade with.

I tried to trade with this trader as soon as they showed up, but even when the pack animals were on the map the option said "cannot trade: no path," presumably because the animals were already leaving.
