I had the same problem but I deleted Hamachi about 2 minutes ago and now it works normally again.
Try uninstalling any VPN programs.

In Alpha 3 (408 and 409) the loading time in the menu is extremely long.

It starts with the game itself which takes about 2 minutes to start up and in the mean time it is a black screen and my Windows Taskmanager keeps saying it's not responding, but after 2 minutes it starts up. Then in the menu, it doesn't matter which button I click but it will always load but only 2-5 minutes later. And when select some mods in the mods menu and want to close so that I can play the game it just freezes (can still move the mouse but nothing of the game seems to respond). I don't know what this is and I can only imagine this to be a bug because all of the previous versions worked fine.

I hope this will be fixed ASAP because it makes the game not so fun anymore with having to wait 5 minutes everytime you want to change anything in the menu.

EDIT: I selected some mods in the mods menu and tried to close it, but the game wouldn't respond so I closed the game. Now the game won't even start up anymore.

EDIT 2: Removed all the non-basic mods from the mods folder and the game starts up again but nothing else has changed.

EDIT 3: I reinstalled  Alpha 3 + deleted old files etc and now only the mods menu has a long loading time and the game still needs 2 min to load up + mods won't work because the game won't start when they are selected.

General Discussion / Re: Preventing fire

How do you mena on fire? By way of thunder or shortcircuit or rain? Batteries catch fire/explode when exposed to rain. Thunder is non avoidable for solar panals which need to be outside, but batteries inside are safe from thunder (like everything else on the inside). Shortcircuits are non-avoidable, as far as I know the only thing you can do about it is getting all the important stuff zoned as home, so that colonist will automatically put out the fire.

If you just want to destroy the grass, there's a simple way.

Set "Grass Cutting" to priority 1 for your colonists and wall off large cells of the grassy areas. It doesn't have to roof it in, nor does it have to be a complete wall-off, you can leave holes in it, it just needs to largely fence an area in. Then have your colonists cut all the vegetation within a cell. You may need to continually designate new cutting, because poverty grass grows really, really fast.

Once it's been cut, it won't grow back, because growing things spread from other growing things, much like fire does. You can do this, for instance, to annihilate all the poverty grass and selectively leave agave and raspberries (or just agave, which squirrels, boomrats and muffalo will not eat; not sure about the raspberries, though I think they leave it alone, too, but I know raspberries block pathing,) alone, allowing them to spread.

I've used this trick to create a strategic agave reserve within my base. Basically the same principle as behind the guy who uses only agave to feed everyone, except I just let it grow naturally and use it as emergency rations when solar flares hit.
Yea I know that I was just screwing around, but thanks anyway.

i think its more about performance rather than a design choice.... fire causes lag... until the game is optimized... its a simple solution
That explains allot, TY

General Discussion / Fire linked to rain?
November 29, 2013, 11:28:01 AM
About 5 min ago I was playing and just screwing around with Rim World and I thought it would be fun to set some grass on fire with Molotov Cocktails. I went and drafted 2 colonist and got them to throw molotovs all over the grass, but when I reached a nummber of fire places (fires on grass) it automatically started to rain and rain and rain. Untill I made the colonist stop throwing molotovs. I tested this a couple of times and it seemd like there is an amount of fire to be needed to make it rain. Is this possible? Or was it just an extreme amount of coincidence?

General Discussion / Re: Failed Colony: Any hope?

The weird thing is that a random guy wandered in the map and spontaniously joined my colony.
It was pretty fun seeing one guy trying to repair and rebuild a destroyed colony for 30+ people and he got killed almost instantly when the next wave of raiders arrived.
But it happend to me once in like everytime I played (which is allot) so maybe it's just really rare.
Or it's because of Rhodes...

Outdated / Re: Rhodes Mod List

@Rhodes
It's really awesome what you're doing here dude.
But is it possible to tell me how you did all those editing within the data?
And what methode/program/magic you used?
Then you don't have to change stuff for everyone and we can change it ourselfs.
If that is too much of a hassle, can you make an improved wall mod with Level 20 & Too Many Geysers & Phalanx Turret & Status Level Mod w/ Beefed up Phalanx Turrets
Thanks in advance

[EDIT]: Forget to include the 5x or 10x (whatever suits you) population mod
