Proven Lands is a sci-fi game that launched today. Like RimWorld, it too is a story about surviving after crashlanding on a planet. It has procedural generation with an AI storyteller as well.

Duelyst is a game with squad-based combat and some strong art assests. It started out prototyped as a tabletop game.

For news, Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn is a campaign to make a sequel to Shaq Fu and a campaign for Epoch: Returns (From a former Bioware dev who worked on Mass Effect) has been announced.

The start of March means new projects launching.

Spirit is a hard to describe game that has a demo.

Ashen Rift is a 3D survival horror game about a man with a gun and his dog.

The UnEarth Initiative is another sci-fi colony management game.

Toby's Island is a town-building 2D RPG with some good looking environment art.

Red Goddess is a colourful 2.5D platformer.

There is a 2D beat'em up called Axe Princess.

If you have an Oculus Rift there is the horror game Spectre to take a look at.

For news, Kickstarter was hacked last month and today it celebrated $1 billion pledged. There was also some drama around a comic book campaign having a portion of the rewards combusted.

Galactic Princess is about captaining a smuggler spaceship. It makes fun of Star Wars and other pieces of popular culture.

StarCrawlers is a first-person dungeon crawler that is also in a sci-fi setting.

Heart&Slash is a character action game with a robot that reminds me of the one in FLCL.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is a sequel fans of adventure games should take a look at.

A strange story is the campaign to buy a chicken burrito. It had a $8 goal and is now over 200 backers pledging more than $700.

Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike RPG project that had a very strong launch. It already has more than 1,000 backers and day 1 isn't over yet.

FRAMED is an ambitious game that feels a bit like Heavy Rain.

Classroom Aquatic is a game where you play as an exchange student trying to cheat on a test by looking at other student's answers. The other students happen to be dolphins.

39 Days to Mars is a co-op steampunk adventure game working on stretch goals.

Catapult for Hire is a Nintendo64-inspired game where you utilize a teleporting catapult and a variety of payloads to navigate levels. The gameplay example around the 3 minute mark in the pitch is interesting.

There hasn't been much Kickstarter-related news this month.

A Minecraft film has been cancelled after raising $63,980. Notch tweeted that the project creator had not made a deal with them in advance of the launch.

DwarfCorp looks nice.

how is the gameplay, is it more complex then gnomoria?

I really disliked gnomoria because it was way to simple, for example lacking any form of physics.

I backed DwarfCorp's campaign but I've yet to have a chance to play it. I also haven't played Gnomoria because my gaming machine is running Linux Mint.

There was a prototype for DwarfCorp released during the campaign. There are videos on YouTube of people playing it. It has simple water and lava physics.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a 3D Cryengine first-person RPG with a medieval setting. It is approaching £450,000 in pledges and also approaching 15,000 backers.

Cradle is also using Cryengine to make an open-world game.

Olympia Rising is an action platformer with a demo.

La-mulana 2 is a sequel to a 2005 game.

To The Death is a beat'en up that looks fun. A $400,000 looks difficult for its campaign.

Savage: The Shard of Gosen is a small campaign for a platformer RPG. If you liked Tiny Barbarian or Volgarr then consider taking a look.

For news, a Super Troopers 2 movie might get crowdfunded.

There was a post to /r/IndieGaming listing some upcoming campaigns like Path of Shadows.

It is the middle of January and now notable projects are starting to launch.

Project Rain World is a unique looking game with strong art where you play as a creature called a slugcat trying to survive in the ruins of a civilization while being hunted by other creatures.

Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is from game designer Brad McQuaid. The project's presentation could have been more refined.

Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians is a tactics RPG with people behind Final Fantasy Tactics involved. It too is a project with the names of famous game developers attached, but is lacking in information about the game itself.

For news, both The Banner Saga and Broken Age are now sending out keys to backers. This is important in the history of Kickstarter as Double Fine Adventure is considered the campaign that introduced many gamers to the existence of Kickstarter so there are high expectations.

Kickstarter also posted a slideshow for 2013 in case you haven't seen it yet.

I like your chronicles, LobsterSundew :)
Thank you. There hasn't been much for me to chronicle for the Video Games category over Christmas.

If you like 2D top-down Zelda games then Midora is a project that you might want to download the demo for. If you look at the Kicktraq data you can see this campaign had a very slow start.

Another game with a demo is James Journey of Existence. The project itself is a bit rough, but the game's blend of 2D visuals and a 3D environment is interesting.

There were some interesting Film projects launching.

If you enjoyed Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon then you might enjoy the 80s flavoured film Kung Fury. The trailer starts at 00:30 in the pitch video.

Legend of Grimrock The Series is an adaptation of the dungeon crawler it is named after.

In the news the Veronica Mars movie that raised $5.7 million released its theatrical trailer.

There were new filters added for sorting projects in the Discover section. Being able to look at the Recently Launched page filtered by category was a feature I remember people were asking for back in 2011.

DwarfCorp was a game funded on Kickstarter that also made it through Steam's Greenlight process. You manage a colony of capitalist dwarves sent by hot air balloon to a far away land.

There has been some drama with the community manager for Mighty No. 9. Meanwhile there is a MegaMan board game getting crowdfunded.

A 3D survival horror game called Long Night only has 34 backers so far and it has been live since December 11th. There is a demo.

Project Nimbus is a 3D mecha combat game. I like its presentation, but it is a bit of an odd campaign with the reward tiers spanning just £1 to £25 and it was posted to the overall Games category rather than the Video Games section.

Fight The Dragon looks like a fun action RPG that has a dungeon construction feature.

In Kickstarter news Torment: Tides of Numenera is now turn-based instead of real-time combat after there was a vote.

Projects with runtimes into January are now starting to launch. More days in length can hopefully compensate for December slowdown by picking up momentum after Christmas.

New Orbit is a spaceship game with a 3D cockpit and a ship construction system that launched two days ago.

War of Omens is a digital CCG that is inspired by deck-building games like Dominion. This game and Hearthstone are the two CCGs I plan to play in 2014.

Novus AEterno has relaunched its sci-fi MMO RTS project today. It has shown a lot of improvement since the first campaign. The 3D bridge and ships warping in sequence visually look very good.

Dyscourse was able to make it. There was a decent surge in new backers on December 4th.

Stasis and LISA are past 100%. I am not sure about Scraps reaching its goal.

A platforming collect-a-thon game called Lobodestroyo is trying to get funded with 4 days remaining to raise $10,593.

Festival of Magic is a 3D RPG that looks like a lot of effort went into it. If you like JRPGs then take a look. The visuals are good.

Sewer Rats is a campaign with only 4 backers so far. I like the 1930s-inspired style to the 3D models. You play as a cartoon character fighting giant bosses.

After November 26th there was a lot of slowdown in the performance of many campaigns. This late in the year is not an easy time to run a Kickstarter campaign.

Dropsy is in its last 8 hours. It was recently picked up by the publisher of Hotline Miami that has announced it will assist with QA, marketing and localization. It is rare that a publisher picks up a crowdfunded game because a lot of projects coming to Kickstarter weren't able to get publisher interest or wanted complete control of the development. Three projects that did get publishers in the past were DiveKick, Cloudberry Kingdom and Final Element.

A physics-based car combat game called Scraps looks fun.

LISA the painful RPG is a 2D survival game that looks very unique and has a demo. It is set in a wasteland without women ruled by bizarre male characters. Player choices can determine if the main character loses body parts or loses allies which impacts the party.

Tiny Trek is a small space game with a very retro colour palette.

Dyscourse is an interesting campaign.

Bloom was on season 2 of The Next Game Boss. I watched that season because the kickstarted 2.5D platformer Spate was competing.

Project Sen is a 2D metroidvania with artists that helped on the fighting game Skullgirls. It still has less than 300 backers.

A 2D sci-fi sandbox space game is Interstellaria. It also has exploration of the surface of worlds.

Sci-fi/horror game STASIS feels like one of the highest potential campaigns of 2013. It evokes both a strong atmosphere and a sense of nostalgia for classic isometric PC games. A playable demo is also out.

A fun looking Contra-like game with 2D physics and co-op multiplayer is Bullet Bros. Good music samples and the level graphics are also impressive with good parallax effects.
