General Discussion / Re: Plasteel...

So what you're saying is I shouldn't be selling my stash of it?

No, don't do this. If you have a high level crafter you could obviously craft some high quality plasteel longswords for your brawlers or sell them. You will need the plasteel for your spaceship in case you plan to build one to ship your colonists from the rimworld.

Ahhh, so now I understand what the Machining Table is for.  I have mech corpses piled up all over the place.  Now I'm mining them for gobs of plasteel!  I should be able to build a ship and get outta here in no time!

Yeah, disassembling Mechs nets you tons of plasteel (centipedes!). I've I'm not mistaken the higher the crafting skill of the disassembler is the higher the amount of ressources you get back. Not sure about this though but can't harm to use your highest crafter I guess.

Cobras

I have a Cobra farm that produces 10-18 little baby cobras every month that I sell on the market for 50-80 silvers each. + Nasty surprise for raider pods.

hm, my female Cobras are all stuck at 50% fertility even though there is a male Cobra with them. I guess they just don't like winter on a jungle map.

I absolutely love Alpacas, cutest animal in game + gives my tailor guy stuff to work his magic

any wild roosters?

I believe that wouldn't work, would it? I've never seen a single wild rooster anywhere and even then I thought only tamed/bought animals could breed?

That gave me a good laugh xD
i had no idea animals could drink alcohol.

They certainly can. One of my elephants drank itself to death and got the sarcophagus inscription "Gray Criminal". I guess the colonist building the sarcophagus was pissed that the elephant drank his booze ;)

I've never seen the "twisting ear" description. That's awesome. Brilliantly transferred into the depiction, really like it.

Put a dumping stockpile around your solar panels and allow it to fill up with chunks. Then, if there are electrical fires, the chunks should prevent or at least deter spread of fires. Also you could do this inside battery rooms.

I prefer to use e.g. stone floors for that. makes walking over it easier.

A maybe better use for a rock dumping stockpile would be to place it around your base entries so that melee attackers are getting slowed down and maybe a bit spaced out so that you can pick them off more easily from the distance. Just smelt the slags, nets you some metal.

Question is in title... the latest patch recorded was August 27,2015, which was two months ago. Why the sudden stop in patch's? Or is my data wrong?

Thanks!

Tynan is on a 6 month hiatus/vacation as already discussed in multiple other threads. That's why there hasn't been a new update yet which will also remain like this for the upcoming months. Ison is currently working on the game but doesn't update the changelog. So your data is correct, nothing to worry about :)

Marsh is also very slow. Less than 40% if I remember clearly. Don't know if it is slower than deep snow though

I'm the one who didn't. I would like to but i just kinda feel no point in reading more than 2+ books when i know what happened already. TV show may be a bit different that the books but still.

Obviously the main plot is the same but the series left out dozens of lesser characters because they are not relevant to the storyline and transferred their attributes to other characters which are not as important in the books. When reading the first book this was one of the things that made me really happy, that there is a whole world described. E.g. the Starks are not just a family running around with a couple of guards but many of the background fillers of the series like stable boys actually have names and participate in dialogues. For me this made the whole universe  more realistic.

Other characters don't play a role at all in the books, however appear pretty frequently in the series.

...and the books have overviews of all houses and factions which comes in very handy with the plethora of characters. Last but not least you get maps of the continents! I freaklng love maps :)

And you're absolutely right, Coenmcj. Sucks not knowing where you want to end up yet, but we all figure it out sooner or later.

Exactly, at least for me this approach worked out fine. I didn't know what to study so I ended up studying Political Science and History of South Asia because it sounded interesting. Where did I end up? Coordinating journals production in a publishing house. Even if you don't know what you want to become right now just do whatever you like, the rest will come.

General Discussion / Re: Hybrid Rooms?

Is it possible to build "Hybrids" of two different rooms? For example, I like making a single, beautiful area for my colonists to congregate when idle, eating, or playing. This maximizes the benefit gained from social activities while minimizing the cost of decorating rooms with statues and flooring.

In Alpha 12, this would mean the room is both a dining room and a rec room. Can the game understand the duel functionality of such a room?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I always replace the chairs at the table with armchairs after some time which causes them to get the better comfortable bonus while eating or relaxing. Would that be the dual functionality you are talking about?

edit:
Now I know what you mean as I just read the changelog of the new version for the first time. Silly me... Can't help you with this though :(

Because a13 will then be at least 6 months away...
One of the points when it comes to a solo developer, when they take a holiday, the whole project holds.

I get your point but I mean come on. The game as it is already offers really much stuff to play with, especially if you have a look at the mods.
Actually I don't mind the break at all, at least then I've got time to play more than one colony in the same alpha before a new version comes out (which I obviously want to try out) :D hach, real life...
