Have you ever had your marriage proposal be rejected?

Trust me, it kills your mood for a long time.

:(

Still won't push you in a killing rampage

Also it does not go away, when the other party accepts ..

Again, I have lived this. Not the killing rampage part, but I have actually ended up marrying someone who rejected my marriage proposal the first time. The mood impact lasted a very long time on that rejection. And it's not like the second time I proposed it erased what happened. I did wander around in a daze. I did hide in my room. So the "broken" psychology part is realistic.

Should it be -49? Yeah from a game point of view that seems broken.

But don't argue from the point of view of simulation that it's not a big deal. Try living it :) :(

Off-Topic / Rimworld as a tabletop game
August 28, 2015, 10:17:49 PM
This new contest might be of interest to you tabletop game designers out there: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/contests/the-survival-challenge

Obviously, this made me think if Rimworld. I'll probably be working on a different submission for this contest, so I won't have the time/energy/chutzpah/legal right to make a Rimworld card game right now. But it did get me thinking.

Let's hear your ideas. Suppose you played make a game that fit into a small box (can fit 108 playing cards, or other pieces). What elements of Rimworld could you put in a tabletop game? What would the mechanics look like?

For me, I would make it cooperative. Make it about placing colonists on certain jobs to get the economy going, and then event cards would get increasingly bad. It would be resource-driven for sure.

I just want pizza now :D

If I understand this thread correctly, and I think I do, it's that Tynan is promising us all pizza.

Thank you so much for a wonderful game, Tynan. I am one person who rarely plays with mods and I've still put in hundreds of hours. I'm also concerned about a Steam release getting too many negative reviews for lack of content and hurting your business long term.

I know that I don't make great decisions when I'm in burnout. I've been there and it's hard to see the forest through all the trees. Mostly I just want it all to be over and done with and move on.

I personally would love to see the modders go crazy with a stable release for six months, then see a release on Steam.

But you've also made much better decisions about rimworld than I would have made, so I will also trust and respect your judgement.

Ideas / Re: Farmers should haul the harvest
July 01, 2015, 02:44:59 PM
The area restriction system really mitigated this problem.

Just create an area (I call mine "Corn!") around just the storage and the fields with a path in between. Restrict everyone in the colony to that area, and voila - many hands make light work.

Having a dedicated hauler or two is also just crucial to the colony in general. But crops like corn, devilstrand, and trees create huge all-at-once hauling needs that this area restriction thing fixes.

One security idea (that I can't test) is purchasing RW with an email address that contains special characters that could also be used as an exploit. For example, single-quote can be involved in SQL injection and is in a valid email address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address#Local_part). Something like '%20or%[email protected] is a valid email and, in the right circumstances, might be an exploit.

Here are some security questions I have for you, Tynan:
- Do you, at any point, use the validated email data in an OS command, PHP eval(), or some other place that would have a special meaning (e.g. # is a common comment character, ; can be used in OS command injection)? I'm mostly concerned about the email sending part and OS command injection (use an API, not a shell command)
- Do you use prepared statements with binding variables (no string concatenation with variables) when hitting the database?
- Do you have character sets specified in both your php script and the database? That's one way attackers tend to bypass input validation. UTF-8 tends to be the standard these days.
- Is this on a separate server? Suppose I get in to this web server, what else could I mess with? Same goes for the database: if I get into that, is there anything else valuable that I could get into?

(obviously you don't need to post your answers, just food for thought)

General Discussion / Re: Mid Game Boredom

I think this will improve as more events get added, starting with this next alpha. I think smarter raiders can, in theory, keep things fresh because they'll start going around your defenses.

Ideas / UI: Thoughts tab on Overview
May 07, 2015, 12:29:03 PM
I find I often want to prioritize what to work on by looking at colonist moods. It would be great if we had a window that was an aggregation of all the colonist Thoughts and their total +/- mood effects. For example "Ate raw food" might show -49 because 7 colonists are currently getting a -7 mood each. Then you can expand that thought to see the 7 colonists who had that thought, and click on one of them to jump to that location.

The folding elements would work like the Stockpile widget, only with Thoughts.

Putting this in an Overview tab would be where I would look for it, although that is getting crowded lately.

Ideas / Re: Backlog, please?

+1

The History tab helps with this, but the ability to read the whole message and jump to location is critical.

Try "andy" (without the quotes) on the new Alpha 7. Look familiar?? Kind of eerie.
