so best option right now is to kill sick chickens immediately..
Rip to the ones with the flu but they've already eaten way too many meals to be worth it.

Half of my hoard of chickens got sick and were unable to move. My pawns are now feeding them my meals. I've got lots of vegetables and kay in the freezer, can I tell my pawns to use those insead?
The meat in meals they're eating is expensive.

For years I have been using the DRM version of the game mostly because it's what I'm used to and it works.
I do like a lot of quality of life mods, but increasingly I and finding it harder to find some of them anywhere but on steam.

So my question revolves around creators and their updates to the mods.
I've heard that steam auto updates any mods you have installed. And I've also heard of horror stories of creators updating their mods and ruining save files.

How common is this? And is it something that should concern me when switching over?

I once had lightning strike a pod (in an unexplored mountain), and it opened all the pods.

Although when this happened, the area immediately became visible, and I got to watch Mechanoids and Pirates fight it out in hilarious fashion.

The surviving pirates then dug a line straight into my base, but were quickly taken care of.

Personally, I like the huge colonies.
I tweak the population settings to emulate Randys model with still keeping a hard curve.

That aside, have a pawn with good social skill dedicated to recruiting. Keep your prisoners as happy as possible, nice, personal rooms help.
I tend to recruit most pawn 95% or lower, and will keep only the best pawns above that.

I find the default map size a little too small.
Usually play on 1 or 2 sizes up.

A road moving through a Jungle, without constant upkeep, would be very difficult to traverse.
Fallen trees, flood washouts, and aggressive overgrowth would make even the most dedicated workers frustrated.
What are the chances of those kind of 'Road Keepers' on a Rim World?

Alpaca Wool Cowboy Hats are faster and cheaper to make, and help a lot as well as a buffer between nothing and the dusters.
Still need the same tech tho, IIRC
Very true, but you can get a few made before you jump to the dusters.
This is all nice and well, but OP is saying this is early game afterall. Unless you are incredibly lucky with traders you won't have the Alpaca Wool needed.

Could you not just keep your pawns indoors and wait out the heatwave?

Make sure the stockpile you want to haul the corpse to has "Allow Rotten" ticked as skeletons are considered rotten.

This is most likely your problem as allow rotten is deselected by default.

*EDIT* I was wrong
