General Discussion / Re: Nazi game setup
November 20, 2017, 06:56:19 AM
Didn't he earn an Iron Cross for bravery out in the trenches as a messenger? I could Google but I'm lazy. So Fast Walker or Jogger might be one of his traits. And while he was not accepted to Art School he was a decent artist...maybe have a passion for Artistic.

Also he has to have a deep hatred for one of the factions and tries to exterminate it from existence on the map. But not the Pirate faction...pretend they're the Allies sending raids. Wolves would be great as pets as he seemed to have a fondness for them (Wolf's Lair anyone) Maybe even name your settlement that.

Would be cool if you could incorporate a Blitzkrieg type attack for your combatants.

Interesting scenario and while he is one of the most despicable people ever, he is also fascinating in a morbid way. Heck Time magazine made him Man of the Year in 1938 (I think). I'm a bit of a WWII nerd/geek too. Hopefully you write a story on this and post as I would be interested in reading how it went.

Not sure if this is a bug or working as intended

My base is in mountainous valley with only one opening to the north. All sides are at least 25-30 tiles thick. When a raid happened I expected them to attack from the north, but they ran straight to one of the sides. After mining 2 tiles they opened up a huge hidden area which was then only another 2 tiles of mining to enter my base.

Should enemies know about where every hidden area is? Have had them do it a few times. If it was only one tile thick I could see potential hidden areas (and could understand raids noticing too) but this time there was nothing to indicate there was one at that spot.

If working as intended, then it's just something I will have to plan for. But it just seems that my pawns should have a much more intimate knowledge of surrounding area than the raiders do.

No mods...Just happened to notice it when I had some furniture being made...1 pawn started the pool table but my another finished it and it was of legendary quality. My thought was to try the same with weapons but i guess that won't work :(

General Discussion / Question when 2 pawns craft same item
September 02, 2017, 11:37:03 AM
I was wondering how quality is determined if 2 pawns are involved in crafting 1 item.

Say pawn A's crafting ability is at 5, Pawn B's is 18. If pawn A does most of the crafting (say 90%) but pawn B completes the final 10%, how is quality determined? If it is solely based on who completes it then I might have pawn A start making several things but have pawn B complete.

Now I would usually just have pawn B do the whole thing since they would be quicker anyways but she is also my only good researcher. So if i can interrupt her just to do the final part, it would speed up my colony's progress.

I somehow designated a timber wolf to be tamed by accident....and my only decent animal handler was incapable of violence....now she is incapable of everything but taking dirt naps

General Discussion / Pawn Icon Question
July 04, 2017, 01:26:16 PM
Is there any way to re-arrange the icons for your pawns located at top of screen?

I would like to arrange them so I have all fighters(and/or hunters) together on one side and non-violent ones on right. Maybe another grouping for medics. This way I can simply mouse over that group and draft them if a raid is coming (or select a group for hunting). Right now I have to either click/draft each pawn individually, or select all of them and then de-select ones I don't want.

Or if you guys now a better solution to this, I would love to know it

General Discussion / Re: Unusual NPC behavior...
June 29, 2017, 06:01:24 AM
Had the same happen in a few games and it was always due to an unopened Ancient Danger nearby. Once the ruins were opened I no longer got friendlies appearing for no reason. If you cannot name your colony and/or the combat music is always playing, those are also part of this bug.

Ideas / Rain/Elevation always in metric
June 25, 2017, 11:41:25 AM
Very very minnor suggestion/observation.

While I can have temps in either Metric or Standard, I don't have that option for rain or elevation. Just a minor QoL that I wouldn't mind being added in a future patch or update. Again.....very very minor and if it's not implemented for any reason, it's not a big deal and won't really affect my playing.

Ex- Navy here....I got lucky and was stationed in the Arctic for 6 fun-filled months...

I NEVER went outside without my survival gear on...fully insulated one piece suit with hood that had a ski mask built in. And wore goggles on top of that. Sideways snow at 60 MPH is brutal when temps are -40°F(wind chill would often go below -80°F).

I never had to worry about wearing a helmet though. But there would be no way in hell I would wear a helmet even if it had a liner in it. Was cold enough even with suit on.

Happening to a few people...here's the link to a thread in Bugs section

Poor choice of words on my part. Better example is I have 2 a/c's cooling my freezer. One set at 32 degrees and the other at 30. Typically only the one set at 30 will be actively cooling, with the other on standby and drawing minimal power. The only time the 2nd a/c is in use is during a heat wave ( or if the main one breaks down).

In that scenario I would expect my primary a/c to have a much higher failure chance/maintenance upkeep

I wouldn't mind it being based on usage......I would expect an air conditioner being used all the time at high power to fail more often/quicker than an a/c that only turns on for a couple days during a heat wave.

Also being based on the pawn's skill at construction should matter too...I would expect a shoddily made solar panel to fall apart, while an excellent one should last for years without any issues

Hopefully I'm not hijacking your thread but I had a somewhat similar event that made no sense to me....

Had an escape pod crash quite a distance from my base. The person inside was the sister of one my pawns. I immediately sent her out to rescue/capture her sister, but before she could get there, the person who crash landed got up and walked right off the map.

Maybe the person didn't know there was a colony nearby and/or her sister was there. Only reason I could think of as to why she would prefer to walk around in the wilderness than go to a place that had food and medical care.

Bugs / Re: It seems animals are never tended to
June 08, 2017, 05:50:38 PM
I found out the hard way that sleeping boxes are only meant for small animals like yorkies and cats

Nope...new game in 17b....

Of course right after i wrote that...these events happened

Alpacas joined
Pirate traders
Raid
Escape pod

So.....so much for my theory....I was hesitant to even post as I just knew as soon as I did, the weirdness would stop....and it did (so far)
