What about an OCD like trait?  It's like green thumb, only increased happiness for cleaning.  If you wanted to add a negative, make crafting, construction, or controlling take 50% longer.

Neat - happiness from cleaning, increased unhappiness from a dirty environment or low condition clothing?

Ideas / Re: Children as a win condition

I would only want pregnancy in the game, if it took nine in-game months and had a high risk of killing the mother.
Then resulted in a baby/child that would eat lots and contribute nothing for atleast 12 in game years.

You'd get around the taking super ages to grow up, not by speeding up time or growth rate, but by accepting that kids are a burden in this situation where day-to-day struggle is the name of the game.
And by having kids occasionally turn up as space refugee crashes.

Maybe three life stages
0-4-baby, eats alittle, needs to be carried around
4-12-child, eats alot and will occasionally haul but has a whole heap of autonomous idling tasks/playing/mucking around which have higher priority so will hardly ever haul.
2-∞-Adult, what we have now.

You might not even need to code for transition, the game doesn't generally go that long. They could just be separate pawn types that just always stay what they're created as.

Busywork would be good, especially if it was something like playing cards that they'd do autonomously if they had a deck and an unused table.

I don't really see the need for fast growth. Rimworld is about struggle.

What's more fun, a quick, no hassle way to get new colonists?
Or
Months of one your colonists being sick and impaired at their job then going through a really dangerous 'operation' of giving birth with a high chance of dying, followed by now having a baby who can't contribute to the colony but needs feeding and needs looking after so eats your food and takes up your wardens valuable time.

Fastgrowth or vat clones would take all the fun out of it, real length pregnancy would add more fun, and real-aging babies even more.

What if people who didn't have the cannibal trait got upset by wearing human leather clothes?

Mods / Laundry? [Mod Idea]
March 01, 2015, 12:17:48 AM
What if, you had to wash clothes after wearing them?

Maybe everytime a colonist went to bed it'd set a dirty flag which would make them unhappy until they changed into clean clothes so they'd need new clothes every day, maybe it'd just be that washing clothes would repair the deterioration.
You'd probably want it to be automatic, if their clothes are dirty they'll seek out new ones otherwise it'd get fiddly.
There could potentially be clothes baskets.

Anyway, anyone got any good ideas as to how laundry chores could be brought to the rimworlds?
Or how could it be weaponised?

You don't have to release prisoners, you can eat them.

Mods / Wall Lights?
December 15, 2014, 08:31:34 AM
There was, yonks back, a mod which added walls with lights in them.
However, I can't remember what it was called. Is it or another like it still around?

They won't last for long as they will never find any grass to eat...
The ice sheet animals must have a new AI to find their food by another way.

That could be a good thing, stray animals lost, running for shelter, die outside your fort, if you're lucky.

The other alternative would be animals who eat dead people, so they'd hunt and kill colonists or scavenging the battlefields after fending off attackers, but that'd probably be a whole 'nother mods worth of modding.

Are there any animals to hunt on this kind of biome? Penguin, seal, white bear or walrus?
I remember ItchyFlee implemented some biomes for Alpha 6(?) with penguins. You may ask him for the texture.

Nice idea for a good starting challenge! :)

No animals would make it stand out from the other biomes more.
Currently in the base game you never really have to face the cannibalism or bust question, ice sheets seem the perfect place for that.

A vent would be built into an already existing wall like conduits do, and would act like an opening, but ONLY temperature would be able to go through these.

What about ONLY temperature AND scary alien bugs.
I mean, why have vents if aliens can't scurry through them and jump out of them at colonists?
Maybe the megascarabs for example could use them, while nothing bigger could.

Have an event, or modify an existing event (The one that knocks out all electronic devices maybe?) to stop bionic implants from working either.
So if you have upgraded all your colonists on that day when the flares knock out the power or whatever, no one has working limbs or eyes or etc.

General Discussion / Weaponised Heating?
December 11, 2014, 03:31:59 AM
Ok, So i've had an idea, but so far it seems like it won't work.

Could you use heating/cooling for security?

The idea is a room which is kept over 100 degrees so anyone walking through it just dies from the heat.
However, you can't seem to let intruders in through a door without them breaking it and then the heater is outside so it doesn't work.
Also, is there a temperature, either hot or cold, where people would die fast enough for this to work?
