Releases / Re: [1.0/1.1] Early Times mod

As the mod requires the "simple coal" mod there is lots of "Coal Chunks" everywhere. I can't seem to get rid of the coal as its not really used in anything. The other recipes and buildings you added can usually only use "Charcoal".

Coal Chunks seem to be usable for refueling but the pawns still use wood for that primarily is there some way to prioritize Coal Chunks for that? Maybe if there was a seperate work type for refueling with Coal Chunks that you could give seperate priority but if that requires changing the items that might be too unpractical.

The Stone Quarry can only give a single type of stone right? In my map only Granite everywhere.
Thought in original Medieval Times it was multiples types. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

Can't remember medieval raiders having Advanced Mortars and Artillery in the old Medieval Times:

I thought they always did not have any shells or so.

Help / Re: Lag/Stuttering caused by unidentified mod
March 13, 2020, 08:49:29 AM
Have to reactivate this can it be VGP mods that are causing this? Someone said in Discord that it can cause issues but why?

I also have these small lag spikes in about 5 sec regularity.

What is the mod where you disable events?

Can I disable the Royalty DLC events?

Thanks yes in my game I also use Faction Control and disabled Mecha + Gun wielding factions + Empire faction and increased Medieval factions.

That said I still get some Noble missions, I probably should have disabled DLC before. No idea if I can Disable DLC on existing savegame.

Wow this is quite extensive.

So do you usually only progress slowly in a game? When I play medieval I just don't research Electricity+ (self enforced) but I guess I still use some furniture and other items that aren't fully era authentic especially when I am still tribal this sounds intersting.

What would really help is some mod that lets you customize all Technologies from all mods you have and selectively disable them plus also put all techs into Time Categories (Bronze Age, Med, Renaissance etc). I use ResearchPal and it has color coded kind of eras but its not customizable afaik no idea if that would be possible at all or interfere with how mods work in general.

General Discussion / Re: The river content is dead.

Having the issue with that currently as I have a Huge River dividing my map in the middle plus some huge marsh patches.

I guess only way to fix that is to forbid some Areas by a special zone instead of Unrestricted?

is it normal that i don't get the door after starting a fresh game? neither research bench
You get a "thinking spot" in EarlyTimes (change from original Medieval Times). That's the most basic (tier 0) research you can research basic research bench with that later. Same as for stonecutting for example you also get a spot before you get a real workbench.
Door is strange I had wooden doors available but maybe its my Doors Expanded mod no idea if you get door if you just use this mod.

If you massively increase its entropy use and massively reduce entropy decay when used then you might be able to achieve almost the same effect while not needing new mechanics?

Some questions:

  • How do you deal with social fights? Currently many of my pawns get bite scars in the eyes. I guess I am just unlucky. I might need a mod for visible eyepatches then my pawns at least look cool.
  • I usually don't like doing killboxes and build large base that's why I eventually die. Currently play Randy Rough on a tribal start with Medieval Times (EarlyTimes). Mecha and Empire factions disabled and no guns or electricity+ techs. No Mech clusters and only Savage+Medieval raiders makes game easier ofc but also raid numbers are higher. At some point in lategame I usually get high numbers of invaders or tough manhunter packs (Alpha Animals + ACP) in some Randy way combined with other stuff and in quick succession that kills me. Is there any way I can have a good escape plan so I can start a second colony if I start to get overwhelmed and then reclaim my original base later? Never did that before is that an option, thinking of preparing that if it is with some emergency exit and emergency storage. Any other tips for my playstyle?
  • Which map size do you usually play? I always played 275x275 as it felt still balanced while being a little bigger. This time I am playing 300x300 just because I want to build a large castle. Don't experience any performance issues so far but I guess it might come later in the game with more pawns, animals and raiders on the map.

Exactly so.  In fact, going by Workshop downloads, the vast majority of players play with zero or very few mods.

Not sure about that. It can well be that the peoples playing the game a lot are using mods and many peoples who are either not playing much or have only played a little or stopped playing have not used mods. The majority of all game owners usually is dormant, never played the game or only played the game a few hours then stopped.

Like only 24% of Civilization 6 steam players ever won a single game and there's comparable stats for other games. Unfortunately as Rimworld does not use achievements we don't have good data here (or do we?). My guess is that the ratio of peoples ever having used mods is way higher in the more active player-base.

Another tip:

You can use faction control mod to disable the OP Empire faction then you don't get titles and don't have to deal with it.

Ok, i will look into it
I am playing a game for a few hours even with the error and everything appears toi be fine so I guess its not important. Probably only something with strawberries and some bulk recipe not working.
