I'm guilty of not knowing who else is involved.  But everyone who has contributed to suggestions, mods, art, anything really has my respect and gratitude to the max.  The Rimworld community has been a real pleasure to be involved in (Mostly lurking for myself over the years).  From the posts and the story's to fan art and mods its been amazing.  Thank you everyone really.  A great post bringing much needed respect and praise to everyone who helped make it happen.

Um......

Do you realize how often devs (and other types of engineer, and authors) get the "I have a great idea for you" line?  The real secret is, IDEAS are cheap and easy to come by; ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT is extremely rare.  Good luck with that :P!  If you want this type of conversation to happen, you'll need an actual worked-on project to show, not a nebulous idea.

I'm not exaggerating, when I say I've seen a post like this on *every game's forum* that I bother with, often in multiples.  Every.  Single.  One.  Marinate on that for a moment ???.

I may sound harsh, but that's how it is.

My real concern is knowing whats down the road if anything (Hopefully something).  I know Tynan reads his forums and the message is personal and one I hope he sees.

The idea pitch is really casual and just a idea, If he doesn't care that's okay life will go on :).  I realize hes super successful and busy and probably doesn't need a forum post idea for another game.  Maybe for some reason its a rainy day and hes bored and he asks me.  Its just something we talk about at work and flesh out all the time and its humorous and gets us through the day.  Emergent story telling, life lessons and human perspective are great things that can come out of games and Rimworld really brought that home to me.  I do have ideas about a similar experience in a slightly different vein that I think would not only do those things but open peoples eyes to whats going on in the world and especially the common folk here in America.  Unfortunately I cant code and don't know how to go about making mods or games or I would.  I am a musician and I am currently working on a concept album of the whole thing because its all I can do which down the road could always be the soundtrack to the game ;)

The real question for me is whats next for Tynan, Ludeon and the future of gaming?  I cant wait to find out even if it means a lengthy wait while Tynan maybe enjoys the fruits of his labor and takes some much needed time off to relax and enjoy life.

General Discussion / Whats next for Ludeon Studios?
March 16, 2018, 11:20:12 PM
Hey Tynan and Ludeon Studios, I just want you to know you hooked me with Rimworld and regardless of what you do next I am very interested to see what your studio is going to be doing after Rimworld and moving forward.  I know Rimworld was your vision Tynan and I love it and I want to see what else you have up your sleeves.  If your future is open I even have an excellent idea for a game and would love to have a chat / share a email with you about it and if it isn't Ill still be here ready to support your endeavors.  Thanks for the great game.  Rimworld has gotten me through a terrible divorce and some of the hardest days I've ever had in my life.

I didn't expect my games to be full of

hook-ups
break-ups
divorces
make-ups

and for the first time ever for my games-- an affair.
he kicked his wife out of the bedroom so his lover can sleep in his bed.
what a jerk!

I had a pawn who's wife got killed on the front lines, as soon as she died he went off with another colonist and made hearts in a bed.  As the hearts stopped and they both layed there, on the other side of the colony a pwn who's name has slipped into eternity gently slid the cheaters wife into the sarcophagus.  I think that was the first time I felt true disgust for a member of my colony.  I love this game.

For what Rimworld is to me... A open ended sandbox where your destiny is your own and a story generator.  Randy Random for me is the only way to play the game to make it feel more organic and realistic.  Cassandra just going steadily up comes off as artificial and gamey.  Randy could like... Be the story teller behind the human race and earth.  Or it sure seems like he is when im at work and the ridiculous events leave me at their mercy.  I feel like im playing life on Randy Random-Rough.  He has transcended the game and become the primary force driving my reality.

General Discussion / Re: How do you start?
February 03, 2018, 11:44:15 PM
The majority of my time with Rimworld has been lone explorer.  I love starting a new colony and rolling my starting colonist and seeing what I end up with.

Since b18 I haven't been caring as much about min / max stats and have been rolling out with pretty much anything cause it makes emergent story so much more interesting to me.  I always bond with my starter colonist on lone explorer and love imagining the pawn as a person and running a narrative in my head while they go about Rim-Worlding.  My oldest colonist is always the colony leader / manager in my mind.  And as they die off it goes in succession really makes it interesting for me.  The colony leader also gets the starting charge rifle.  Ive had some games where that sweet piece of kit has gone for like 10+ years being passed down as people die.

I enjoy starting where you do in the tech tree.  I actually usually dont get around to researching till the second year lately.  Probably a bad habit but with the tech advantage I have everything I need for that first year.  I tend to build to the map and take advantage of the local situation so bases are unique.  I enjoy planning out a long term base and building towards the initial plan in stages slow over time.

With crashlanded I find I care less about my colonists for the game.  When you start alone every person you get is a gift and they really stand out and develop personality that I find Im missing when I start with 3.

General Discussion / Re: Very few Raids with Randy
February 03, 2018, 12:54:34 PM
I have 250 hours into b18 and its the first time Ive gotten super serious since I got Rimworld years ago.  Ive always played Randy Random Rough / Some Challenge.  Im getting better at Rimworld but im not quite there yet in terms of doing it quickly and getting things together asap, I need a breather.  The latest colony got hit with Cold Snap during the last month of harvest in fall, then came Volcanic Winter and Toxic Fallout all within the same month.  Sometimes I get half a year with just peaceful or netural events and sometimes I get brutalized back to back in quick succession.  Randy Random really lives up to his name.  I like it because its like real life in a sense where everything is unpredictable and anything can happen at any moment.  It adds to the tension knowing anything can happen I think in your case you just happend to have a good spell.  It happens as well as all hell breaking loose in a second with back to back events.  And everything in between.

I think way too many people are getting upset about the 1.0 thing. But honestly, could you really blame them? Ever since this whole early access shenanigans started getting really popular so many years ago, a lot of people have been burned by a LOT of different developers very bad. They might have donated $200+ or something because of how much they believed in a dev's vision for a game, maybe even been one of the founding backers. And then slowly, sometimes over the course of a few years, they watch this ultimate dream game fantasy they had in their head get slowly twisted and contrived into something they never imagined nor wanted. And that's if the dev even remains active and doesn't abandon a project half way or 3/4 done with it. Or sometimes a game's development might have seemed like it was coming along just fine and there were no issues, but the game might only be half way done, and the publisher starts breathing down the neck of the developer and they have to slap a 1.0 on the game when it definitely wasn't ready.

You guys need to have more faith in Tynan though. He doesn't have to answer to anyone but himself and the players. There is no corporate bullshit going on behind the scenes. I also believe, that deep down, most people would agree that this game IS essentially finished. As in, it is feature complete, with a good amount of content, and everything works. Just because it doesnt have XYZ feature or content might be a little lacking in some parts (one level of turret Tynan?! ONE?! Give us a light and heavy or something, dammit! Bring back the old double barreled texture for the better one!) Let's also remember that we are so lucky that Ludeon helps mod developers by making things easier for them. This is such a great benefit for everyone, as we are blessed with hundreds of great mods to choose from giving us literally hundreds of extra hours of content.

Look at what the man said, he has to make sure the game is okay for everyone. He cannot let power users dictate the game, just as he cannot let casual users either. The game is pretty much complete, and we know it. He has been working on it for what now, more than 1722 days? I think it is acceptable for him to say "this is finished, and can stand on it's own two feet. That doesn't mean I will not continue to work on it in the future." I'm pretty sure that anyone who had worked on a project for this hard for so long would be about ready to slap the golden 1.0 on it as well!

I've also got more faith in Tynan & comapny than I would ever have for just about any developer that has to answer to a publisher. He has done things right, to where he can make the kind of game that he knows will be fucking awesome and he won't have to make any major compromises because of some corporate BS. I think we can give the man some faith and not get our panties into a bunch over all of this. In my opinion, looking at RimWorld's development cycle and everything of how it came along, this is actually a dream scenario for any backer of early access projects. You don't want a game you have already purchased to get stuck in development hell, and you also don't want it rushed out broken or incomplete. You are going to want it done just the way RimWorld was. Tynan has lead everyone this far, I'm sure that he won't let everyone down now.

Ive been lurking here for years and following steam forums since Rimworld showed up on that platform and I have to say I created an account here just so I could support this post.  Watching this game progress has been one of the greatest joys Ive had in gaming.  Tynan and his vision for Rimworld is as pure as you can get something that you dont make for yourself and hide from everyone.  Id like to thank him and the community for providing me with thousands of hours of gaming, reading and actually using my brain and imagination again.  Ive learned life lessons from Rimworld, I think in Rimworld Mechanics.

1.0?  At this point I dont need some kind of arbitrary number after the game.  I really feel like Ive gotten it all here and everything that comes out from this point on is just a fantastic bonus.
