also note that how hard a cooler has to work determines the heat output. so, if it is winter and plenty cold outside, the cooler is doing almost no work and therefore producing almost no heat. it always seems like such a good idea to channel the "free" heat, but in practice it is simpler to just build a heater.

Xwynns is very entertaining to watch. Plays scenarios as well as Vanilla, very little pausing, extreme difficulty, and no save scums. Has about 800 hours of play, so certainly no noob, but all the mods and scenarios switching make him appear so. i sometimes wonder if the ineptitude is for narrative effect, or is he REALLY that terrible at raising chickens? either way it is still a fun watch.

Ideas / Early Warning System

New mid-game research: Early Warning System

Researched: sometime after the electronic research bench.
Unlocks: The EWS. a 2x2 security device. costs components/steel. once it is built it provides a chance to detect a raid and alert the player early. For example: Player receives the red letter raid alarm. With the EWS built the player can have a fixed chance (simple percentage), or a sliding chance (based on size, stealthiness, direction, weather, etc of the raid) of an early warning. The actual raid spawns 2-4 in-game hours AFTER the red letter alert. Could include approximate size and direction of the raid.

New Late-Game research: Skywatch
Researched sometime after advanced components. Requires the EWS prerequisite.
Unlocks: The Skywatch Net(tm). 3x2 security device. requires advanced components/plasteel, maybe uranium or gold also. Once built it functions exactly as the EWS, except it works for Transport pod raids.

I have always felt like the colony should have a chance to "see it coming", and have some small amount of time to put down their pitchforks and grab their simple helmets.

Can someone from a faction join you if you rescue him?
No... They just go back to their faction... But if they are a friendly ones or the ones that can befriended like rough outlanders or savage tribes, they will give you goodwill if they leave the map, if you heal them up.
Another faction rescuee certainly joined my base in B19 (no hostile environment at the time); uncertain if that's possible with 1.0 or simply that the chance is really low..

But you can always replace his lungs with harvested lungs. Every Illness will be gone!
Is this true with already diseased organs? Eg harvesting an asthmatic lung & placing it into a pawn removes the asthmatic trait?

You can not harvest diseased lungs. Diseased organs can only be removed and replaced. Any diseased organ that is removed disappears. I brought this up in a prior thread and got this answer from the mighty Ty himself. I was trying to transfer cataracts to a prisoner, don't ask me why because i forget, but it was a valid Rimworld reason I assure you...

A few observations from the peanut gallery:

There is a reason why I only play vanilla content; it keeps the responsibility for the product on the manufacturer where it belongs. It is the same reason why my vehicles are stock. If I modify them with after-market products and break them, I have no one to blame but myself.

The game as stated is Early Access. Subject to change frequently and without warning. No one has the right to complain about broken saves with this disclaimer. I have never "finished" a colony because of this, and I probably won't get to finish my current colony, but that is the consequence of beta-testing.

Thanks to all for the responses. Trying to mark this thread as question answered, but I don't know how...

It is 2nd year of a tribal start and I just cleared my Ancient Danger. Is there a value to keeping the caskets around, or should I dismantle them for parts?

Woot!!!

Yea, a closer inspection revealed that the eyes could be "removed" but not "harvested". The same with her damaged spine, although why I would want to remove a spine without a replacement on hand is beyond me. Also, healthy eyes could not be harvested, so forget signing the back of your rimworld license.

Thank you for the response Tynan, I feel like a part of the community now! :D

to make a short story long, I have an "organ donor" who would love to donate their eyes, since they can sense that their time in this world is growing short. The issue is that both eyes have cataracts, and nobody on the transplant waiting list is willing to take a chance on getting cataracts with their new eye. So the question is, does the organ retain its condition when it is removed and transplanted, or does the organ become "pristine" with a clean install? I could find out the hard way I suppose...

No mods. I know, unheard of. But, since I'm trying the unstable build, I have made no effort to load any mods. I thought if anyone else had seen this then I'm not crazy, and if no one has seen this then I'll bother the devs in the bug section. Seemed reasonable to ask the community first...

General Discussion / Bills ignoring limits

So, I set up the stove with cooking limits. The stove will show the bills as suspended, but the cook keeps churning out the meals. The meals show up in storage, and the cook is not "forced" to cook. Anyone else seen this lately?

QuoteTwo Scythers are reasonably easy to deal with either kite the melee ones or melee the ranged. My new tactic for tribal starts is Day one to two - build a hut, get some food and healroot and make some steel or stone clubs. Then I open the ancient danger and fight the contents. I usually have 2-3 ranged and 2-3 melee.
Scyther outspeeds even luciferium pawn, so you are relying on getting mobility damaging shots on approach, which is far from reliable even with good shooters. H As far as I can tell, mech pain doesn't seem to affect mobility either (at least at low 10%), so you are looking for very specific hits - thorax shots don't cut it. Furthermore, hits aren't guaranteed to cause aggro switches. So I am skeptical of consistency of strat, especially when you can crack ADs containing 4-5 scythe/lancers that infinite aggro you until you leave the map. Of course, you can play around these with specific constructions, but you mention nothing about this.

For the record it was a crash-landed start, default settings on Cassandra medium. of my 4 pawns, 1 was non-violent. I had a rifle, a pistol, and a knife. It was day 11, so all gear was default as well. Jet the Officer had the rifle and the armor. The scene was a goodie quest, so the scythers were asleep on arrival.

I tried several save scums to win the day, and nothing worked. The scythers were both melee and very fast. No amount of kiting could overcome their speed advantage, and no amount of damage ever downed even 1 scyther before all 4 pwns died. in the end i continued my run without the quest, as I'm trying to give a noob perspective of 1.0

Observations of a noob:

The "hunting a predator" text now includes the %chance for revenge. Cool.

Lamp, sunlamps, and possibly other items do not list the power consumption in the builder info. They have to be built first, making it hard to plan the power grid. Not cool 😉

Day 11 I get my first item quest: AI persona core guarded by 2 sythers. 4 pawns, 2 guns and 1 pawn non-violent. No chance! Seems like this event was way too strong for a 1st event.

Caravan formation screen is way cooler, with info about pregnant animals.

Pawns seemed to form a caravan much faster, but it is very early game. Seemed faster though.

Herbivore food consumption seems off. I have 3 tame boomalope and already there is a large region without grass. Larger herds of wild animals haven't eaten half as much grass as my 3 beasts. I planted some hay in fertile soil, about 50 tiles, and it looks like they may starve before spring.
