On my mac laptop (MacBook Pro 2015) I've been playing Rimworld happily for close to 1000 hours.

Recently the game has started to hang and give the spinning beachball of death at the "Initializing" step of startup. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the problem persists. It hangs indefinitely and my Mac reports it as "Application Not Responding". While in this state it does not respond to Force Quit, but can be killed from the command line.

I suspect that there may be some mod incompatibility, but cannot get far enough in the startup process to manipulate the set of mods in game and I don't recall adding any additional mods since the last time I was able to successfully start the game. On my Windows laptop with an identical set of mods, the game loads up normally.

I'm at a loss for how to get things working again.

I have the same machine as you do (Mac mid-2015) with essentially the same specs.

It runs very well even with a significant number of mods. You'll be fine.

I had problems launching the game from Steam after reinstalling on my mac laptop (mid-2015) after upgrading to Catalina. Had tried nuking everything mentioned in the threads on how to do a clean install.

Steam was tossing up an error: Failure to update and not even making it to Rimworld to launch.

What fixed things for me was navigating to the executable and launching from Finder. Game launched with errors saying that it couldn't talk to Steam overlay. Closed the game, and then launched from Steam and so far everything is good.

I updated to Catalina on my mac laptop (mid-2015 macbook pro) on Friday. Everything has been working fine for me.

Use it. While uranium is rarer than steel, it isn't that rare or expensive. I've had games where I build workbenches out of uranium and hospital beds out of uranium because I have excess uranium and am out of steel.

General Discussion / Re: Trap costs in 0.19

The defense changes in .19 make it so the trap corridor of death strategy no longer works. For me they've been working fine as part of a layer of defenses. 300 wood by the time you're getting raids that have 10 traps triggered shouldn't be too expensive, that's approximately the cost of setting up a new bedroom for a pawn. For me the cost is approximately 2 pawn days of work to chop trees and reinstall the traps. Obviously this is biome dependent as to how available the resources are.

A direct comparison to turrets seems like an apples to oranges comparison. Turrets have a larger up front cost to build, maintenance issues (power/batteries/breakdowns/etc.), and can catastrophically explode if things go wrong possibly including other turrets if placed too close together.
