So... ever had those pawns? The region-leading/planetary masters who can't do what they do best in certain moments? It can be a shooter whose aim is questionable at times, a brawler who loses a fight to a rodent, etc. Sure you can have bionics from mods to increase your accuracy, but I had a different idea: perks per skill level. Every five levels in a skill, a new perk is gained. Examples below.
At 5 shooting, there's a mild increase in accuracy. At 10 shooting, there's a shorter cooldown with raged weapons. At 15 there's another increase in accuracy, and at 20 it could be an increased accuracy and shorter cooldown.
There could be a different approach with melee. It could be increased chance to stun at 5, a higher pain shock threshold at 10, increased damage at 15, and increased chance to dodge at 20.
It doesn't necessarily have to be combat focused per se. There could be things like an increased harvest yield at a certain plants skill level or a better chance at legendary/masterwork items at a certain crafting level. This was an idea I had playing TES: Oblivion and looking at a comic on reddit.
Just think. Something like this could have a skill 20 shooter and skill 20 melee be a John Wick of sorts. It would make for fantastic settlers and fearsome enemies, IMO. Those are my thoughts on the idea. What are your thoughts on it?
