I think that in the future there will be other people living on your planet too. This is implied by the fact that on the Kickstarter page it reads that Rimworld will feature fights between primitive weaponry vs futuristic weaponry. How could this be the case if the people using primitive weapons were not already inhabitants of the planet. Surely they would not come raiding you with space faring ships.

Except the part where they drop in from space armed with R-4s.

I built a crematorium of sorts, a dumping area surrounded by a couple layers of concrete to prevent further fire spread. It holds 64 bodies and raiders are dumped there and disposed of after each raid. Playing on Chill Callie, though, the number of raiders I get thrown at me (in the region of 20-40) means my colonists take the next couple days dumping bodies by which time, another raid has dropped in. Or, if I'm lucky, a supply drop and THEN a raid. I have a long corridor (covers about 3/4 of the map, totally unneccesary but what else to sink metal into?) and everyone has M24s. So while the raiders slowly trudge forwards, they all get gunned down by M24s. Probably also why it takes so long to get the bodies burned, taking 90% of the time spent hauling just scrambling across the sandbags.
