Another explanation or solution could be the use of "glitterworld" technology and researching growth hormones to speed up the aging process. Maybe there could be a device that has almost the opposite effects of cryptosleep. Either way, I think adding children is going to add a lot of sensitivity to the game. Some people don't care for morbidity, but some people might find the idea of raiders slaughtering their colonist's children brash. It probably wouldn't be a good experience, even if you enjoy losing.

Well you don't need a "realistic" explanation, to be honest. You're not recruiting people to be a part of a crash landing. I do agree with your idea though. It would help save time when rolling for characters. Obviously you can use Edb's Prepare Carefully. If you're like me, though, you don't really know when to stop and end up cheating yourself out of an experience.

Ideas / Re: Your Cheapest Ideas

I came up with an idea from playing Xenonauts and referencing their tactical combat. I don't know how hard it would be to implement it, but a small change where colonists can avoid friendly fire from a certain amount of tiles away would be very helpful in base defense and such. There's too many times where I find myself losing a game not because of the enemy forces, but because of friendly fire. Realistically, you could fire over someones shoulder if they're crouched in front of you.

General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself!
September 27, 2014, 11:47:39 AM
-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
I've played Prison Architect, and the art style obviously stuck out when I saw Rimworld for the first time. I realized that the art style was very similar, but the gameplay was a bit different in terms of goals. I enjoy sandbox games because I don't like being forced down a linear path. Not everyone thinks the same, and we should be able to make our own choices that affect our experience.

-What's your favorite other game?
I really love Half-Life 2 and other source games. (My avatar is a Hunter I drew.) I'm not huge on FPS games but will accept them as long as it's interesting or unique. Call of Duty FPS types are not my style. I enjoy RTS and Simulation/Strategy games as well as RPG's. I guess I'm really open to a lot of games actually...

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
I'm not sure really.. or I just can't remember a good one at the moment. Maybe playing Wurm Online. That game is not worth the time consumed in my opinion.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Chocolate Pebbles or something? Maybe the Golden Grahams though.. yum.
