I am having this problem as well, usually games require the command button or shift to be pressed, I tried both to no avail. I also understand it is alpha, but without being able to shift/command click the game is unplayable on mac w/o an external mouse, I can't even have a colonist pick up a gun, stand somewhere when drafted, arrest people, etc. etc.
