General Discussion / Re: Joy deprived? Why?
April 22, 2016, 08:26:09 PM
My problem is just the opposite. They like to burn 1/3 of the daylight mopping up joy instead of doing critical work.

Components aren't bad as a concept. As they are implemented, it's more-than-one RNG factor too many in determining the fate of your colony before you even do much with it.

To be fair, I've more than once had 'Good Mood' keeping some colonists on the edge when they were down.

Boreal Forest is a good introduction to tundra and ice sheets, if you're having trouble with those.

"Feeling Bad" and "Feeling Good" are just rng shenanigans. They don't seem to be related to anything but the pure whim of chance.

Pain in general is an annoying issue because the ONLY thing you can do is toss 1.2k silver at a trader that happens to have the implant. That's it.

General Discussion / Re: Nonsensical Sieges

Night raids don't really work on sieges anymore.

You'll need to harass them with a longrifle until they attack.

manual targeting of turrets was removed in this alpha

Basically, your turrets are useless outside of event spawns. Certain predators will 'hunt' when hunger reaches a certain stage, and because of how the mechanics work, you pretty much just aren't going to save whoever they hit.

The worst part about this is that there are no real signs or warnings when your colonists get targeted. So you more or less have to micromanage their activity outside of the base, and be sure to kill any predators that wander too close.

Painstoppers are a nice, but ineffective solution if you aren't at late-game and have already figured out a way around the pain issues anyways. That's a quality of life implement for people who have money to spare.

Does nothing for when pain mitigation is actually needed the most.

Lightning in the jungle is the worst.

Ideas / Re: Set prisoner's meal!
April 22, 2016, 12:12:27 PM
If the prisoner is incapped, there isn't a whole lot to be done.

What you can do however is set a storage spot inside to pile simple meals in. The prisoners will eat on their own before your colonists are flagged to feed them.

as it stands. how does one "research" a sniper rifle or a power armor without first acquiring that armor?

Pretty easily if you understand the process of how they work. Again, it's design, not discovery.

Quotedo they have internet in rimworld? a vast storage of knowledge that can be accessed with a research table?

My colonists include engineers. They know how to make a rifle.

Quotebut blueprints, recipes, and seeds require that the player interacts with other factions via looting or trading to "learn" new things. it's a metagame for collecting and unlocking new things. this way you don't simply just finish all research within 2-3 years by assigning some dude to sit in a corner and unlock everything.

You're wanting to insert another gate to slow the path of research.. but why?

I feel melee is very underestimated in the game community. Possibly due to people's aversions to
any and all damage to their pawns.

This is because serious injuries proc randomly and are often irrecoverable and severe (i.e. scars). So yeah, people keep their pawns away from random permanent debuffs (and no, that's not 'realistic', which is why the response behavior is so extreme).

This is pretty X-Com levels of ridiculous.

Thats not all the info tho.
What is Potts' health tab like?
Is he missing limbs or an eye?

Potts is perfectly healthy in that screenshot.

draft and then manually hunt

Essentially. You want to do this anyways because firing at max range leads to all sorts of accidents at present.

General Discussion / PSA: Mechanics on new Diseases
April 21, 2016, 08:01:34 PM
When tended count is reached, disease is gone.

Medicines will affect the treatment quality, which will determine how severe the effects are until next treatment (except pain, because for some reason we're just not allowed to mitigate pain).

In this case, it took a while to get through, but the gut worms passed at 8/8.
