Stories / Re: Your Best Screenshots

So I started a Tundra base (wanted the challenge) and all is well so far.

Took a bit to get going, but it's stable now. Not having any growing season really messes with me.

I had someone randomly join, he subsequently died. Oh well.

Thanks,
EBrown

So I just recently restarted an A8 colony, and so far it's gone pretty well. Been having no real issues with it, except that it's quite well exposed, and easy to attack. There's a mountain south of it I think I will move into, now that I have an adequate number of people to help with the move. (7)

The freezer is set to -9C, which allows me to stockpile food for raids.

All the bodies in the grave are raiders except two of them, who were bystanders that were killed. Need to setup a crematorium to get rid of them.

I don't know that it's really a "funny" thing, but I love the description for the Trigger-happy trait. "Pew! Pew! Pew! ____ is a terrible shot, but he doesn't care, because guns are awesome!" I say "pew pew pew" all the time, so it makes me giggle a bit.

This has happened so many times with my sniper that I quit hunting animals.

What baffles me is that I send my guy out hunting and he ends up sniping one of my own people because they got in the way. Really, Mike? Shooting McPherson now?

I typically build all walls out of wood to begin with. I also build all doors that are on the exterior of buildings out of metal.

The prison is converted to Stone entirely as soon as I can afford. Stone Beds, Stone Floor, Stone Walls, Stone Doors.

Later I slowly replace the remaining exterior walls with stone, and the exterior doors with stone.

All interior walls are wood and all interior doors are wood.

Beds are always wood (except the prison beds.)

I try to avoid solar generators as much as possible. This forces me to locate all steam geysers early in the game so I can make an appropriate attack plan. All my geothermal generators are surrounded by a building, and a build a concrete floor around them and a path of concrete to them.

Anyone that attacks my colony and survives is captured/arrested and then I harvest what organs I can. (Typically a kidney, lung and heart or liver, since the final one kills them.) The organs are subsequently sold.

I typically have an "initiation" routine for all new colonists. Typically I have them act as hauler/cleaner monkeys until the base is clean. Then they are initiated. I do typically choose a colonist that acts on behalf of myself. He doesn't get much special treatment though, other than the best gun typically.

I grow loads and loads of food, and cotton. I don't grow devilstrand anymore. (Just not worth it in my opinion.)

I stick with Phoebe, but I have been leaving it on "Challenge" mode instead of Basebuilder lately.

I haven't modded yet and must say it's well worth the money. I've gotten way more entertainment than the $30 was worth.

Usually I let them lay where they died unless they cause me a nuisance.

Unemployed is such a cruel word. They are "searching for oneself." But that's probably too long for the game.

Sometimes you just need to be rude to get the message out there =P
actively seeking for new occupations or "in transition phase"
would be too long aswell
"Between jobs" as I had always told people.

I've always done a 9x9 room as well, and built the lamp in the centre with twelve units surrounding, with the following setup. It seems to have a very quick navigation layout which is handy for getting my colonists around.

Don't you know the risk of using all those batteries? :P

Update: I finished Hydroponics room 2 and added Hydroponics room 3 to the Hydroponics centre, and of course as soon as I start growing the cotton a solar flare.

Thanks,
EBrown

Somewhat risky having a tonne of batteries in a wooden shed LOL.  I've had them blow up a few times but I just don't see any other way to keep a large colony powered!  Without enough batteries to last 2 days without the sun, your colony goes downhill really quickly! Especially if an eclipse happens to end just as the sun goes down. Im going to try independently powering my different areas of my colony this time, instead of one huge power map.
Have you tried finding a geyser nearby? They are awesome with consistent power and a lot of it.

Edit: I left my stuff run on autopilot for a while and oh man...so much food. Like damnnnnnn...so much food. I'm looking at 5007 of potatoes and berries right now...just wow. I have no idea what to do with all this food. Sell it maybe? Keep it? I'll have to build a huger food storage area.

Thanks,
EBrown

Playing with Randy Random when I get my first ever siege. I was totally unprepared for the bandits to be setting up a little base on my map with mortars (and I had none myself to counter). I had no armor to speak of, and only pistols and rifles.

Thinking this band of 20+ vermin with 3 mortars was going to end me, luck quickly turned my way when Randy decided to send a second siege group of the same size from another faction in at the same time, practically next to each other.

These two factions were dire enemies. Needless to say, they did not want to share killing us.  By the time they had sorted out there differences, only 3 bandits had survived and they fled.

I got soo much loot from that encounter :p
Maybe randy is just looking out for you.

Hi All,

Some awesome looking colonies in this thread, I have been inspired!

Here is my humble first attempt at a Colony

I think I might start again after seeing some of the clever ideas in this thread!
