The same as ShadowTani wrote, I too tend to get bored quickly with some games nor do I own a lot. I seek out the gems, therefore I tend to be quite critical about my purchases.
This game caught my attention since alpha 4 and bought it this week.
Assuming direct control or let it flow, can make the colony or break it.
Like in Dwarf fortress, losing = fun.

Although I only played like 4 or 5 hours, I already regret nothing.

General Discussion / Re: Funeral Rules in your colony.

I have a few graves around, but go in the end for cremation.
When switched off, the bodies are still hauled off to a short term new home.
Later on, I will send their souls back with some smoke.

Had yesterday evening my first real go at it. Seen enough youtubes to know stuff but without any practical knowledge, auwtch for my first colony.
Chose Phoebe, 1 setting lower then challange (60%setting). Since I'm a newbie, so took it a bit "easier" (so I thought).

Started with 3 peeps, got reduced, by error in judgement, to 1 survivor. Had some prisoners whom finally survived my mismanagement. Got back up to 3. Captured an other one. Nice!, I finally have 4 now. I feel comfortable now, I can do more stuff.

Oh deer, the mechs have dropped a pod. I send someone out, to poke it with a bullet from afar. Scyther comes out to take a look, one shot kill. Back to 3, darn.

Surprise!, have some more. A group of raiders this time. Managed to fight them off with my remaining turrets and people. But not without consequences: 1 more dead, 1 unconscious and 1 still standing (the medic), but I can have another prisoner too. Hauled both of them back, when....

Humming intensifies, local herd of deer went mad.
They went straight for the colony, the turrets kill half of them. The rest, they found my medic until he was unconscious too, in my house.

This colony is doomed, doomed I say.
Total play time, a mere 4 hours.

General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself!
October 14, 2014, 08:51:58 AM
Hi, I'm Thorin (not from lotr, it's a combination of Thor and Odin ;) )
I'm from the Netherlands and work for a logistics company.
I've studies chemistry, decided that it, although very interesting, wouldn't be my job for as long as I'm alive.
In the same time (while studying, pc's were coming out (xt's, 286. yeah I'm that old :D) )
Since that caught my interest too, I decided to start learning programming (mainframe and .net), later on switched to databases and now being a system administrator.
But that's enough about me, time to answer some questions.

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?
Well, Blitzkriegsler and Yeti (both youtubers) did/do a good, funny and overall enjoyable series.
And I also tend to like this sort of games (sandbox/rouge-like)

-What's your favorite other game?
This question should be plural in my case, I've enjoyed in the past 20 years loads of good games.
I started with the general fps (wolfenstein, doom, unreal tournament's, C&C's). Went into the decennium of mmo-rpg's but got bored quickly (I've tried, honest). Now it's all about building, managing and surviving versus the environment. Just to name a few: Unreal World, Towns, X3:TC, Minecraft, Starbound etc.

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?
When there is gravity and a hole present, I tend to end up barely alive in said hole.
Because I don't fear Gravity only the end of the journey.

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?
Frosties offcourse.
