About the hunting- apparently not. I was a bit surprised too, at first. Then again, it makes sense- going out alone into the wilderness, to then return with a filthy carcass on your back is hardly a noble pastime.
If it were on horseback, sipping wine from a golden goblet, and having animals herded in your general direction- now that is a whole different story.

Thats sound reasoning.
So GiddyUp, RunAndGun and RimCuisine it is ( or any other advanced alcohol mod )

Now for my hunters to to herd those animals ...
Look at that. The whole herd choose to come after you.

Happy hunting you noble scoundrel ...

That bug has allready existed in [1.0] and is caused by the near zero or zero aiming time of the Quickdraw Weapons.
You could fix that by increasing the aiming time of the Quickdraw Weapons.

First ... may the High Stellarch bless you, your work for the Empire is exceptional.

but I don't understand your reasoning ?

Updated to 3.8.1
the following activities are now to be considered commoner work
- Drafted hunting.
- Finishing off enemies.

Can nobles still do normal Hunting ?
because I always thought those were the most basic pasttimes of nobles.
Killing stuff for fun and killing people they don't like.

I can understand the reason behind "finishing off" allready dying enemies because this is real busywork getting rid of filthy peasants.

I am actually not dissapointed about the DLC. And I hate the way most companies use DLC's.
Day One DLC, Paywall content and so on .. so my  first thought was "NO TYNAN, not you too".

But as it turns out, the DLC was still available DRM Free, the technical changes to the game came free with the main game, some QoL improvements from mods actually made it in the game, as it happened before, and the main DLC content is technically superior to similiar Mods and opens up new possibilities for more mods.

I looked at my logged hours in steam, and thought another 1000+ hours for only 20$ that keep Tynan and his Team working, now that is a pretty good investment.

But yes I miss a lot of QoL improvements as well, which I think should be in the main game. Mainly AllowTool with its right click options and hotkeys ( WE ARE PC USERS we have more than 10 buttons and 2 wobbly sticks ) , the Fluffy Menu Collection and Animal Logic.
As for the numbers of mods I use .. I am of the faction that thinks hunting for interesting new stuff is part of the game.

Let me finish with a question : If you support a Modder on Patreon, because of the time and effort invested in the mod, does the mod become second party DLC ?

General Discussion / Re: Killing killboxes.
February 28, 2020, 04:00:50 PM
Because of my CPU I use 275x275 Mountain Maps, more is slowing me down to much.
So sieges are mostly ressource drops for me as well. I actually wait until the mortars are build before attacking, then I start sniping the pawns manning the mortars until everybody attacks.
Then I use natural cover and choke points.

I can see the point for killboxes and trapcorridors on flat maps, where there is no natural cover.
And if we are being honest. What else is a medieval castle than a giant killbox filled with trained soldiers and their supply train.

For me, there are two mods that prevent me from using killboxes.

"Embrasures" which prevents the enemy from overrunning me with numbers and I have actual chance to survive a shootout.

and

"More Slaves" through which Slavers have a bigger supply of potential colonists. Not equipped mercenaries but a potential ally you have to invest in.

I haven't played long with the royals update.
But those insolent, demanding pests have always been fun in Dwarf Fortress, and since Rimworld Nobles seem to be at least useful in a fight, this is a big step upwards.

Concerning the frequencies of the quests I have not formed an opinion yet, lacking the playtime.
But I too find it weird that the first quests started two days after I crashed ( Randy Extreme ) especially since my survivors/colonist don't even have a way to comunicate.

It is sensible that remnants of an empire, spacer pirates and the industrial factions have a way to detect a crashed space ship and find your three little piggies in their sad little hovels, but to give out quests you should have at least met the other factions.

The referenced Mod where you pay for quests is this one Jecrells RimQuest
I would prefer the quest giver/caravan approach as well and/or a message similiar to space traders that a faction is calling on your comunications console would you like to accept/call back .. or a royal messenger.

The distressed Noble quest on the other hand works quite well for a new colony, and is a good introduction to the quest and royalty system.

Orions Faction Discovery this should also be in the core game, or at least a debug option :)

Today, when the SendOwl Email about the update arrived, I was able to activate the DLC in Steam.

You can buy it the same way as original Rimworld. The SendOwl Link opens instantly as soon as you have paid.
( I did via Paypal and it took me longer to figure out that caps lock was active, than it took for the whole paying and download process. )

The Message means, if you buy it that way you don't get your Steam-Key right now but have to wait a few days until Steam has accepted the cold harsh reality of DRM-Free purchases still being available.

As European customer Paypals Exchgange Rate made it slightly more expensive than Steam.
But for Tynan Sylvester, newly crowned Emperor of the Rim, and his tireless crew of Dwarf Fortress Nobles thats just fair.

Today, when the SendOwl Email about the update arrived, I was able to activate the DLC in Steam.
So now I have the best of both worlds, DLC-Free offline gaming and automatic mod updates through steam.
Now I only need Fluffies Mod Manager to smooth out the process of making local copies of the steam mods.

The really horrifying thing is .. though playing offline most of the time, I still have over 1000 logged hours in steam  :o

You want to know how often that happened in all Rimworld Playthroughs or just in a single one :)

Raiders, Shipparts, Ship Chunks, Mechanoids everyone took a shot at it at one time or another.
The good thing is, you allready have the enemy boxed in ...

Releases / Re: [1.1] SimpleSidearms (1.4.0)
February 25, 2020, 12:00:12 PM
Took me a while to figure out the weight slider for sidearms, but it worked fine yesterday.
My computer did in fact not explode.

I like the preference switch which is pretty intuitive.
It might be easier though to start with a predefined weight for sidearms instead of zero.

Can you detect if a Pawn has enhanced bodyparts that change melee damage and change the unarmad symbol accordingly ?

My pleasure, I can do nothing else but support my fellow Steam-Avoiders

Thanks so very much. Played 1.1+DLC.
First thing I did after landing was pressing Home ... to no effect. Right Clicking Plants did not work.
It was aweful.
After an hour the game crashed to desktop.

Been there, done that, I paid my due.
The hour of unmodded Rimworld is over.

that one is not in your first modlist.
Did you mean "More Faction Interaction" ?

I have this one as well.
