Just like in real life, it's easier to get warm than to keep out the heat apparently.

I think it's a good way of balancing things out. If you live in a really hot place your people don't have to wear parkas (which slow down crafting etc. by quite a bit), and you can grow crops basically all year round. Having to place a few more coolers or insulating walls sounds about right for that. I don't know about wall properties though, maybe granite walls might do the trick?

I always settle in the icy mountains and heating really isn't much of a problem. Dead animals, people and airdropped food are automatically frozen, which really helps, too. I have to use extra power for growing crops all year round though (hydroponics), and the slowdown from parkas and the snow is rather annoying and can barely be worked around.

Insulation is actually a problem in my case, since I want the heat to get into every room, and vents aren't that great after all.

I just wish we could lay down air ducts like power conduits, so they are hidden in another Z-level. That way we could properly build some central heating/cooling unit.

there is a mod that does airducts and adds some extra coolers I think aswell.

This is something that's been a pain for a couple of builds. I play a lot on hot maps (thanks for allowing planting of tree BTW...), and if you want to cool an area there's only one option: Wall, Space, Wall.

This uses up a colossal amount of space, quite a bit of resources and means that most colonies look very similar, as you have to use the space inbetween as walkways.

Today I wanted to build a more organic colony with lots of little buildings. But I was in a Arid shrub land, so the Freezer, joy room and sleeping quarters: All have to be double walled, and where'd all my space go...?

Maybe there's a way around this? For example the ability to make some walls insulated, in the same way you place down conduits. So the walls get filled with insulation and then act as a better barrier against temperature.

The "Stuff" option for insulation could be rock chunks or bricks, meaning that doing it is still needs similar levels of materials, but it saves space and means you don't have to use the same layout.

1 cooler tends to be enough to get a room to comfortable tempriture, 2 is fine for freezers in arid. no need for double walls

I am totally agree with colonist707, game is just moving the wrong direction.

don't like it feel free to stick to alpha 1 or go find something else to play, none is forcing you to update and play this ever improving game

"Optimized fire significantly"
I'll say...
under 10f, a fire near my colony stockpile and members ran to fight it. it was about 4x6 in size. 8 colonists fighting it couldnt stop it, thye just caught on fire themselves and started wandering around a bit, then died. i turned the rain on but it didnt do anything.
I finally used God mode to form a granite wall perimeter around it and removed the roof.
let it sit for about 10 minutes keeping the rain going but the fire kept blazing away.
i then reloaded to an earlier save of the fire and turned off damage and colonist damage and let them try, but they would still catch on  fire and walk off till the fire on them went to '100%' and disappeared (being not able to take damage they didnt die) then they go back to trying to fight the fire but its just a 'rinse and repeat' and not affecting the fire as it gets bigger (with rain going also)

i restarted the map and later had a fire in my freezer and again the colonists did the same as above.

but the fire didnt cause and lag, so that was a plus :)

You sire you're runn8ng 10f and not 10e? 10e improved performance but made fire immortal, 10f fixed that

What if Steve Jobs is still alive and Tynan is his minion?
No, it's the other way around, and Jobs has finished his task in this wo4rld and thus returned to the Collective.

Do you think maybe Jobs assimilated Tynan then?

Why not make it a NON RANDOM chance ?

The game have a map view that can show differences in terrain type already. Can't you make a new "terrain type : Ruins" ?

^^^ THIS

maybe have the circle used to denote that a colony is already there but instead of filling in a colour (red hostile etc {i forget the rest} just leave the centre empty)

You mean you removed 'private time'?

Small suggestion don't use it 0e use 10f. Unless you want to live on a firely death world where it rains some strange highly flammable rain (wish I managed to get that build downloaded)

Fire not being put out in 10e fixed. Redownload for 10f (now with less petrol rain)

It would actually be nice if there were a way to predict solar flare events. Something to use a telescope for besides Joy that would use the research skill for something ongoing.

I see many blind researchers in your future
