So will building a ship out of toe- and fingernails be another endgame scenario?

Bugs / [L|0.1.334] middle mouse button without function
February 20, 2014, 04:30:54 AM
Hello,

not sure if this is a bug and the search did not deliver any other result. On my Linux box the alpha runs fine but with one little thing. According to the docs, the map should scroll when I press the middle mouse button. However that doesn't work, the map is scrolling with the right mouse button. This would not be a big problem if that would not also mean that I was sending my drafted colonists anywhere just because I want to scroll the map. Using the mouse wheel to zoom works fine though.

And using WASD as a workaround is bothersome as I'm used to use the mouse for scrolling and WASD for moving.

Seen on Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.10

I did play Phoebe friendly, and she is not at all what I'm looking for.  I played her for about two months (~60 days), and I never got attacked by raiders.  There's a big difference between a director who ensures a colony survives and one that never does anything remotely threatening.  Important to me is manageable adversity, not ensured survivability.
(...)

I played Phoebe and did not set up a Comms Console, so she was not able to emulate an interstellar highway right next to the moon and instead sent an occasional Raider, mad Boomrat or other 'bad' incidences. Just enough to make it more interesting but nothing actually endangering the colony.

This makes me think that there is some room for improvement regarding the storytellers. And in fact I'd love to see a way to mod an own storyteller.

And reading through the forum makes me think that I'm an odd player as I'm not really keen on focussing all my efforts on keeping safe from Raiders and have Yet Another Real Time Strategy Game. That's why I like the storyteller idea, so people can get the gameplay they want.

Maybe some of us should also try to think up some good endings. So far we have awesome ways to lose the game but it's always a bad end. Building a rescue vessel to leave the moon again sounds like a way to come out a little more positive. Or maybe collect enough resources to pay a hike from one of the passing vessels. Not everyone enjoys watching his people getting wiped out in the end.

Nonetheless regarding the elements I would expect tectonics being added, like moonquakes or a stray meteorite - which may come as a curse because it bombs the base or as a blessing as it comes with precious metals.

Also it's suspicious that there is no water to be seen (apart from the rain) But meandering creeks or accidentally mining into a hidden river could give interesting story points too.

Although I'm pretty sure that those have been mentioned before somewhere here.

Hello,

installing the LTS Enablement Stacks fixed the issue for me (12.04 x86):
$ sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-lts-saucy

so it's apparently either a Kernel or an X-Server issue.

Weird! But now that I tried it again, I'm getting the giant cactus too. Even the autosave that dates two minutes earlier won't load properly.

Guess we should close this issue and file it under "Broken Savefile"

Sorry and thanks for the effort though!

The files are compressed with bzip2, that was the only way I could get beneath the size restrictions. And the raw xml (.rim) files are too large for a standard pastebin file as well. So either I split them and put them up here as parts to rejoin or upload the archives somewhere else.

Edit: I packed this one with 7zip, which is the format I saw in other uploads too, so it should be unpackable.

Hello,

took me a moment to find the savefiles on Linux and a way to keep the archive below 300k...

Thanks!

Bugs / [L|0.1.334] ever idling colonist
January 30, 2014, 03:56:59 AM
Hello,

while building structures one of my colonists suddenly stopped doing anything and was marked as idling. However he was not blocked and he was allowed to do anything he could. Drafting him did not help either, he would not move anywhere but could drop and pick up his gun. Telling him to use the comms console immediately brought up the comms screen without him needing to walk to the console.

I have a save-file which actually stored the status, so upon loading he still stays immobile. However after loading the colonists are lacking bodies.

If it is any help, I will post those files.

Not sure how to reproduce, the last thing I did was to mark the area beneath him for cutting while he was about to finish a structure.

Hello,

with the public alpha you can add Intel GMA 4500M (8086:2a42) on Ubuntu 12.04 to the list. So I guess it's an 12.04 thing rather than a hardware or even driver issue. Shame though, gut used to the LTS version.
