There are other reasons to not rush it onto Steam. For example, I wanted it to be as good as possible for the larger player population on Steam. I prefer to refine it in front of a smaller, more dedicated audience.

Good to hear your not pulling a DF with EA :). I wish all indie devs would follow this rule and stop abusing Steams EA. Also I bought the game about 3 weeks ago will I still get a Steam key? When I bought it still said I would, but now people are saying it's been removed?

In light of Tynan's post, do you think you can handle 60-days (or more) alpha cycle? Man, my knee-jerk reaction says no, but I'll be damned if I say I won't be salivating even more at the new features in the changelog.

If I understood correctly, it will probably be longer. The two parts that stood out to me are:

"The first public releases wrapped up their testing cycles in about a week. Alpha 7 took about three weeks."

"I want to expand that period of the release cycle proportional to the testing period, to maintain a good ratio."

So if the alphas are taking a month, then this leads me to believe he expects about 3 months between updates.

THREE MONTHS! I'd like to have the game come out of alpha before my 2-months-old finishes high school, please!

He will be adding more content in each update as well, so it will be completed in the same length of time as with the shorter cycles lol.

General Discussion / New player with a few questions :)
October 25, 2014, 09:53:19 PM
I just bought the game a few days ago and decided to give it a go tonight. I am doing good with my first colony having fended off a few raider attacks, and animal attacks and seem to have most of the buildings built(with individual bedrooms). However one of my members caught the flu and is just laying in a medical bed. Every now and then a warning pops-up that he's about to go insane, and checking his thoughts it's because he gets hungry. Do they not get food themselves or am I doing something wrong? I have to disable all the medical beds before he will get up and go get his food and then re-enable them. Also how do I make him take medicine? It still shows untreated, but I see no way through health bills to make him grab medicine.

My other question has to do with population. I still have yet to get another colony member after a few month's, how do I get new colony members? I tried capturing a prisoner from a raider and selecting to recruit, but he died from his wounds :(. The next raid the 2 guys just ran away because of my auto-turrets and pistol guy.

My final question is what is the point of visitors? Random people show up from a neighboring faction and I don't get the point lol? They just wander around my colony and leave after a while..

Thanks for any help and I apologize if this has been asked a billion times, but I didn't see it asked in the first 2 pages :).
