Off-Topic / Re: Command & Conquer, anyone?
April 14, 2016, 06:31:41 AM
I have an old PC games magazine with a preview for the first C&C in it. It has a screenshot of the terrain in the game, showing trees and a flowing river, with the caption under it saying something to the effect of "This game uses satellite imagery to create almost photo-realistic terrain graphics." And young teenage me looked at that screenshot at the time thinking "This is the greatest thing I've ever seen."

Oh how our perceptions change.

I started in A7 and became quickly obsessed with the game, playing it to death over and over again. Mods helped to make up for the game's shortcomings in depth and variety, but even so I started to burn out pretty quickly. A8 was the last version I played a lot. Since then I've only played the game sporadically, skipping at least one version entirely (A11 I think), and even with mods it simply hasn't been able to grab me like it first did.

A13 sounds like it's shaking things up enormously, though, so hopefully this will be what gets me back into the game in a big way.

General Discussion / Re: Does Liver regenerate?
February 10, 2016, 07:30:43 AM
In game terms, I actually wish getting the liver shot out wasn't an insta-death. You will die in a short period of time without a liver, but it wouldn't be instantaneous, so if you have spare livers on hand, you should have a (brief) opportunity to make a transplant. Same thing with someone losing both kidneys.

Loss of both lungs or heart should still be insta-death, though.

EMP attacks also disable the shields instantly.

General Discussion / Heat armor
September 24, 2015, 06:56:10 PM
Presumably the heat armor stat reduces burn damage from things like molotovs and inferno cannons, but I was also wondering: does it also make it less likely for colonists to catch fire or have some effect on how quickly they burn/how quickly they put out the fire on themselves?

I ask because I sometimes notice colonists get hit by an inferno cannon burst but don't catch on fire, so I was wondering if this was either just a random thing that happens or if it had something to do with the heat armour stat.

General Discussion / Re: prosthetic "foot"?

You don't need prosthetic feet anyway, as a person who has lost a single foot can still walk, albeit with the same 50% movement penalty as someone who has lost a leg.

I'm not sure if anyone else is interested in this but if someone were to start maybe an elk farm wouldn't they want to know how long their elk need to be pregnant for before they give birth and if anyone has this information please say the pregnancy times below.

General Discussion / Re: Rimworld Volcanic Winter
September 21, 2015, 10:46:49 PM
If you play on a really cold icesheet biome, say one where it goes below -100 even when the sky isn't full of ash, then the volcanic winter event can be pretty dire.

We should be able to genetically engineer giant megascarabs, or mega megascarabs, or whatever.

Ideas / Re: Medicine Priority
September 21, 2015, 01:50:58 PM
A very simple thing I would like is that if you shift+clicked on a particular medicine in the priority settings, it set that for every colonist, which would be handy for getting them all off the glitterworld setting at the same time, and then you could change individual colonists as you see fit.

Now that beds have quality, I believe the higher end ones help heal sickness faster. I will double check when I'm on the computer and not the tablet.

Bed quality affects resting speed, but not immunity gain rate. That's always 110%, regardless of quality.

Ideas / Re: As a Welshman...
September 19, 2015, 10:22:42 PM
It actually says no "true" aliens in one of the universe primers, and I asked what was meant by that a while ago but couldn't get a definite answer from the dev. My impression was that it probably meant all the stranger-looking creatures, like boomrats or the new boomalopes are actually engineered from terrestrial stock. This would therefore mean that there are indeed no 'alien aliens' in this setting, though there may be lots of creatures that kinda look 'alien.'

It would be nice to get some confirmation that this is indeed what Tynan intended, or if he's planning on changing it at some point.

Mods / Re: [Mod Request] Atheism mod
September 19, 2015, 10:09:54 PM
I kind of want the opposite, a mod that adds a game mode where you have to sacrifice one of your colonists every year to appease the evil star god TY-NAN, with terrible consequences if you don't.

To be fair, actually eating human meat does cause some pretty hard mood debuffs to the ones consuming it, especially if it's eaten raw. My point was more about the act of butchering humans and making things out of their skin, which has virtually no consequences. That's obviously extremely fucked up, and if your colonists are going to freak out about selling prisoners or cutting out their hearts, it seems reasonable they should be freaking out more about chopping people up and turning them into hats as well.
