Ideas / Long work table priorities
December 16, 2014, 12:54:00 PM
I love the fact that now we can finally do something with art skills, and that the tailor table can make more than shirts, pants, and cowboy hats, but what I'm finding is unfinished works piling up in my stockpiles.  Because of the extended nature of those productions, you can't tell a colonist to work them, and you can't tell a colonist- even the author- to do anything useful with an unfinished work.  I don't like wasting resources any more than the next guy, but I can't tell if this is a bug or simply colonists being dumb.  (I love their fire-evading tactic during mechanoid attacks of running away from a fire directly into a cluster of centipedes with inferno cannons and autoguns.  Real smart, guys.)
What I would propose is an extra flag to any production table whose works can be left unfinished and carried away from the table- that the table would prioritize the completion of ANY applicable unfinished works in the resource search radius before allowing a new one.
And maybe a clarification as to the conditions one needs to fulfill before you can start working gold or uranium into art or weapons?  I've stockpiled quite a bit of both those resources, but I have yet to see anyone try to work them, even though I've got people with 12 to 14 in crafting and art skills.

Ideas / Re: Override
December 16, 2014, 12:39:12 PM
I say +2 because both of those are good ideas.   So I have a useful task I just want done NOW, and the only person nearby is half the map closer than anyone else.
"Cannot complete: X is not a useful person.
Override X to be useful against their lazy will.  Take -5 moral for a day while they sulk and wallow in their own self-pity."
"Cannot complete: Job Z is reserved by Y.
Override Y to complete Job Z with X.  Let Y actually go eat a fine meal because they're about to be urgently hungry and tired by the time they trek all the way out here pick up this one piece of metal that X for some reason didn't pick up even though they mined the stupid thing out of the mountain."

General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself!

Hello world, I'm Ackapus

I started playing Rimworld after watching my buddy Zaakath play it all the time on his laptop at D&D while waiting for his turn to come back around.  Never played anything quite like this, although I have played the Sims, Civilization, and Xcom, which Rimworld seems to be a certain pastiche thereof.

My other favorite game?  Hard to narrow it down... Big fan of Civ V and Beyond Earth, StarCraft and Diablo, Portal, and was kinda into Halo back before Xbox Live made everyone a glitch-jumping bug-exploiting screaming maniac.  Was even a beta tester in There... not that it went anywhere.  My strongest gaming affinity probably has to go to C&C Renegade.  If only Westwood had hung in there....

Most embarrassing?  Well, when Renegade came out I was in college, and the net admin actually ran a gaming clan out of the computer lab.  Those guys had played C&C Gold back on Kali and dial-up 28.8 modems, and they followed the C&C franchise to the depths of EA's mismanagement.  However, he put together a team for Renegade, and I was on it, practicing in the lab during school hours and being more vocal than I should have.  Well, the entire staff of the computer lab wasn't in on the gaming, and after a particularly aggrieved death during an online match I let loose a string of profanities and heard a voice chastising me for it from across the room.  I jumped up out of my seat, ready to let more profanities loose, and saw the building manager staring at me as he was walking to his office.  To this day, I attribute divine providence to the wisdom I had to silently sit back down and watch my damn mouth.

Breakfast cereal?  What the hell is that?  Breakfast is any leftovers I happen to have in the fridge.  Cereal is for eating on a whim at any time except breakfast.
