General Discussion / Re: I wonder about vatgrown and age
February 19, 2015, 03:06:22 PM
True. I think I am probably reading into it that vatgrown are accelerated growth variant. As you said, probably just genetically altered, "conceived" in a tube/tub and grew normally.

Still, it would make some nice story/flavor text to see a biological 23yo with 1 chronological age. lol.

Well, depends on your budget, but I would think an amplifier were in order if you don't already have one. Just run HDMI to the amplifier for video and put analog RCA cables into input for TV as well. There should be an option to prioritize analog over HDMI digital signal in most amplifiers.

Switch amplifier to TV and you should get HDMI video to TV and analog audio to receiver. Would require a 3.5mm to RCA adapter though. Cheap. Assuming you would send audio out via 3.5mm.

Thanks for reply, so it is intended.
2030 he was born on a planet where it was "medieval", put in cryo for 3000 years, emerged in 5523 or so.

I like it. Makes you think he came from a primitive planet, got abducted and put in cryo by an advanced race.

Maybe they were late for a very important date?

Bugs / Re: Hauling and storage problem.

There have been significant improvements in the hauling AI for the next release which I believe will address this issue.
Significant, maybe, but 100% fixed? No.

I have a decent-sized freezer and I have a bill for "until 10" for simple meals and I often have 4-5 stacks of 1-3 meals. They purposely go out of their way to put it further away in stacks with less.

I even witnessed a hauler pick up berries and split his load between 3 stacks less than 75. Instead of hit one and make it 75 and put the rest in a pile, he decided to fill 3 different stacks of berries across 3 trips to get them to 75.

For USB audio devices (which I perfer of 3.5mm since I have speakers as well and don't want to buy a sound card), I always disabled "USB selective sleep" as that generally messes with programs/games that require the sound device be active at all times and can't reinitialize them.

As far as HDMI, I have no idea. Do you seriously use your monitor's speakers? If so, that's horrible. Use 3.5mm speakers in onboard audio or a USB headset.

Maybe a dumb question, but did you forbid the simple meals?

Or, why even be able to see them, just have it go straight into game blind (no picking biome either). Maybe its a different storyteller where after you choose Blind Suzy Extreme, it goes into the world with 3 random colonists and random biome / terrain.

Or, do what I do and just close your eyes when clicking random on colonist tabs and pin the tail on the donkey when i choose my biome / terrain ;)
True, but you can already do that without too much effort. Click randomly on the map. Click start.

Ideas / Autosaves per colony?
February 18, 2015, 10:27:18 PM
Unless I am mistaken, autosaves are global. If you forget to save manually and start a new colony, the autosaves are overwritten from another colony. Autosave should either only appear for you current colony or do something like "nameofcolony-autosave-1", but even that is cumbersome if you have colonies by the same name.

General Discussion / I wonder about vatgrown and age
February 18, 2015, 08:42:08 PM
Do vatgrown soldiers have a biological age of 23 and are 23 chronological, or can they be, say, biological 23 and chronological 1. Also, using "biological" is a bit problematic as they are biologically accelerated, so that age would just be there intended age, not their "living" age.

I had assumed it was how long they were awake/living/aged, but I suppose it's their "absolute" age, as in their body condition.

I'd say intended? Kind of.
He is medieval and now he is futuristic. He was in cryo for 3000+ years.

The problem is it says he was born 2030, so that would mean "medieval" is 2030 and the game takes place 5030+.
Nothing wrong with that if medieval is the era for his world in 2030.

I haven't even looks at text like that, but do other colonists have the same timeframe? Like the game is set in 5030+?

I like the idea of having to re-roll all three colonists at once. Gives a nice balance between getting rid of potentially awful colonists and scumming until you have 3 uber colonists.

Yep. Basically, it somewhat forces you to work with what you get (which is the whole point of good/bad traits?). Also, with a selectable difficulty, it drops the re-rolling rigmarole down as you narrow down to your taste. Also, it helps you realize (from your own hard-head efficiency habits) you are making it easy/medium/hard by what you pick or what is given to you. As much as I like trying to get the best colonists, I haven't realized I was playing "easy" by doing so and could be missing out on randomness fun.

Ideas / Re: Animal husbandry

Hmm, maybe just start with a hunters aid. Wood+leather makes a fake deer, etc. It passively attracts that type to it. Somewhat like herding and helpful so hunters dont go all over the map.

Ideas / Rolling all starting colonists at once
February 18, 2015, 04:33:56 PM
It would be interesting to be able to roll all three and see all three at once. Maybe some minor balancing so it's not 3 nobles, etc.

Optionally, there could be 3 options for your type of colonists. Easy/Medium/Hard.
Easy would be 1 colonist with minor or no bad traits on any.
Medium would be 1 colonist with any degree bad traits and one with any good traits, third would be mixture of any traits (good or bad). Somewhat what it is now but a whole reroll.
Hard would be 2-3 colonists with any degree bad traits and one with one minor good traits.
(just quick examples, I'm sure it needs tweaking)

Would take some testing and deep thought, but I would prefer that instead of rerolling colonists for 10-20 minutes and then it feels like I am picking exactly the right guys. I would rather pick my difficulty, get more or less what I want in a few rolls, and basically choosing my "colony" rather than picking colonists.

And, of course, be able to see their health as well from my other suggestion.
