General Discussion / Re: Introduce Yourself!
February 21, 2015, 04:35:39 PM
Hey,

I'm MrSurvivor (T^T I want a better username) and I really enjoyed playing Rimworld!
I'm currently in my freshman year and I'm a big fan of all management games and strategy games.

I have been playing video games since I was like 6 and immediately once I played my first in-depth video game (sigh it was Roblox) I immediately got hooked onto video games. Though I can get emotional without video games (withdrawl :( ) I can get by. Most of the time.
Why do you play video games? I really like the idea of being able to control the world instead of just looking at it *cough*television*cough* I really enjoy strategy games and games that are generally in-depth like the AOE series and X-COM and prison architect and stuff like that.

What introduced you to rimworld? My friend told me about it and it seemed very fun and after playing it I really enjoyed the complexity of it.

What is your favorite other game? Idk I don't really have a favorite though I am a really big fan of management games as well as in-depth strategy games (IT HAS TO HAVE RANDOMNESS AND MONEY IN IT)

Most embarassing game-releated story? Well I don't remember alot but in Rimworld I forgot to add a growing zone inside after I killed the one outside and everyone starved XD

What kind of breakfast cereal is the best? Idk but I like fruit loops and apple jacks the most...maybe the cinammon toast crunch is good too. But don't trust me. I barely eat cereal as is.

What do you do when people troll you in video games? Troll them back obviously... :)

Heaters and coolers do not go through doors, however there is a mod called "Central Heating" (link: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=8476.msg84066#msg84066) that adds vents into the game. Basicallly you put it into walls like the cooler and it moves around temperatures through rooms which is good for heating and cooling.

Oh and one more thing I would love to move the overview skills around cause I don't always like having hauling on the lowest priority when there's junk around and I don't like having research always being the lowest priority

Yes it's extremely annoying when they do something and you have to tell them to do it again, and again, and again, AND AGAIN. IT JUST PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH! Also same as mining I want them to mine the whole chunk instead of just one block.

More floors like sandstone floors. And maybe being able to build a mountain slate block so you don't have to remodel your whole cave base if you accidentally mine the wrong chunk of rock T_T

I know this is really, REALLY far in the future but I would like to go off the map to the other parts of the map so we can extend our colonies and stuff like that. There should also be more limited resources supporting my other idea. Multiplayer (8 player max) would also be great if you could raid people and stuff like that and your guys would defend using the game ai if they got raided by another player.

Also I also mentioned in another topic that we should add more mechanoids if aliens would not be implemented.

Also as I said again in another topic get people to complete their constructions when you prioritize it instead of just leaving it.
Plus maybe a nutrition thing should be put in? Just simple things like protein, calories, and antioxidants so people would have to alternate meat, potatoes, and berries.

I know pawn state icons are already included in a mod but it would be great if it could be implemented into the game.

Well maybe if they don't want to add any aliens they should at least add more mechanoids than the just ever so tanky centipede and the op scythers.

That suddenly makes RW sounds a whole lot like your run-of-the-mill Civilization-type games...
I don't know if it's a good or bad thing to you, so I'll assume the worse and continue on my idea.

Right now RimWorld with its total vision is very predictable and thus closer to pure management games (in the german spirit vein) than RPG or Strategy. So yeah, with Uncertainty Veil it would become closer as common strategy games. However, its goal is different of those of games like Starcraft, for example, that's why I changed its name.

After all, it's a choice: do Tynan want RimWorld to be close from Starcraft and Civilization than Farm Simulator and Cities in Motion. But I personally feel there's more potential stories coming out the first games than from the latter. Surprise and exploration are elements of successful stories. Careful planning and management, however enjoyable for other very good reasons, aren't as inspiring storytelling-wise.

True, it seems far too easy now to fight raiders because you always know where they are and where they will go and also where all your resources are, etc

I think that it should be an optional add-on on world generation because Rimworld seems far too easy without it.

Furthermore it should be like the AOE series where you don't know where anything us unless you scout and see the mountains and stuff and that you can only see units/animals/mechanoids/etc if it's in your person's "field of view".

Ideas / Getting people to actually complete their tasks?
February 21, 2015, 01:34:53 PM
Okay so I'm kinda pissed off alot now because I want people to construct things.
So they go and construct things when I say prioritize and they get the first thing done.

AND
THEN
THEY
LEAVE
IT

I think that we should make it so that people actually complete their constructions when they are prioritized to construct things instead of just leaving it.
