Emmie joined my first colony. She just wandered onto the map naked and headed to the stockpile to get some clothes. She recruited lots of people for me.

General Discussion / Re: Sexist Rimworld?

Some of the characters are premade, they're from the Kickstarter. Others are random. Engie is one who pops up fairly frequently and she's usually an engineer. A big change in a13 is that once a character is generated the game keeps them even after they leave the map, so they'll come back again and again.
I think you found a weird batch of RNG though.

I don't enforce anything but a sleep cycle. It keeps them sociable if they're all awake at roughly the same times. If something needs doing right now I just micro the relevant colonists through the task, otherwise they get things done in their own time.

Good to know there's a point to treatment.
Painstopper does exist, but it might be nice to get some aspirin.

The bugs are very easy to kill with massed firepower or simply sniped at range. They are however too random in when and how they can appear. Punishing dwarfing is one thing, making caves useless is another thing altogether. I would agree that depth should play a major factor.

Rimworld can be pretty darn hostile.
You don't have to build ths ship. Building the ship "wins" the game if you want a victory condition. If you want to build the frontier colony, then do it. You decide when the colony is successful. Generally it's when you set it aside and start another one because thw whole thing runs like clockwork without your intervention.

By design there's no such thing as an impenetrable base.
Sapper can be countered by NOT building an entirely underground base with a killbox entrance. If portions of your base are above ground sappers have trouble finding a good entry point. Seiges are countered by taking the fight to them. Get some snipers or just decent shots with automatic weapons and pick at them from maximum range. They won't counter attack immediately as their top priority is building the mortars. One you take out one or two they'll abandon the seige and make a normal raid attack, at which point you can return to base and do whatever you usually do.
Don't be afraid to actually use some pawns in combat, it's not a tower defense game.

Sounds like a pirate copy, I wouldn't trust it. SendOwl is where the legit copies are distributed, you should have an update notice and download link in your e-mail.

General Discussion / Re: Does the relationships system conflict with RimWorld lore?

Yeah, chronological age just means how many years have passed since that character's birth. I had a colonist who was like 27 (4978), and that cryptosleep time could easily have been multiple voyages. If Fry and Leela crashed on your planet he'd have more cyptosleep time logged, but they'd certainly know each other well.

General Discussion / Re: Could this run Rimworld?

Heh, I was going to bring up SE.
Rimworld isn't going to change to the degree that Space Engineers did though. It started as a 32-bit DX9 game in a 10km3 sandbox and it's going to finish as a 64-bit DX11 game in a 6.6AU sandbox with destructable voxel dwarf planets.

Strictly speaking, the amount of time remaining until the release can in fact be measured in days.

March 30, 2016, 02:52:37 PMQuote from: Shurp on March 29, 2016, 10:07:12 PMHeh, the loonies aren't allowed to have armor. If they break, everyone in the room beats them down and tosses them in their bed to think about what they've done.
If one of your colonists goes berserk, have all your other colonists grab wood logs and beat him down. He probably won't suffer any permanent injuries. And then you can rescue him, which works much better than imprisoning him.
In Combat Realism shotguns are actually very good subdual weapons at moderate range.

General Discussion / Re: What was your best/worst prison?

Maybe when the Convinced by Warden buff isn't completely insane.
Right now the best prison is a 2x1 room with a sleeping spot at a temperature that is not lethal to humans.
