General Discussion / Re: Why XML instead of JSON?

Curly braces give me a warm, fuzzy feeling and are the reason I cannot deal with Python as a language. :)

Pirates are crazy people.

Are you sure the cooler is set up correctly? The heat has to go somewhere, and if it's installed backwards all you're doing is heating the room.

As for visitors slowing the game, how large is your map?

Long term debuff to energy, short term buff that offsets and then some. SUGAR CRASH!!

Rimworld doesn't have a demo because Rimworld is far from finished. In a way, it's better to have focused feedback from a brave group of early accessors than open a game up to everyone and their dog too early. I play Space Engineers as well, and their forum is full of people who don't even understand what early access is and weekly accuse them of some nefarious scheme relating to "bugs that never get fixed" and "patches that don't have enough interesting new stuff to do" like it's an MMO or something.

Sharing the alpha is sort of piracy. If you expect that the person you are giving it to will want updates, then letting them try an older alpha could generate a sale. If you know they'll buy it if they like it, then it's really not a bad thing, though still technically piracy. It's a judgement call. I understand that alpha 8 is widely available, so that cat's out of the bag anyway.

Pirates gonna pirate. Just snag one of their copies, you aren't helping them any.

Ideas / Re: Vanilla-friendly fog of war?
May 26, 2015, 09:41:48 AM
I don't see it as a priority. It would necessitate new mechanics for scouting which is at odds with an optional feature that is not balanced against vanilla. Better might be a partial implimentation where raiders are invisible until they enter the sightline of a pawn, so you don't know where the attack is coming from, but it doesn't interfere with normal survival gameplay.

Funny strange, not funny haha, but in my very first game a mad cobra somehow broke down a steel door. It was very mad, apparently. It used to live on the other side of the map, but darn if it wasn't certain that it needed to slither a mile and break down a door to attack someone it had never met.

Very next game, the one I'm playing now, a naked, 74 year old genetically engineered sex slave wanders into my camp and asks to stay. She's a great cook and a wiz at socializing. She's almost convinced the psychotic assassin who thought charging a turret with a shiv was a brilliant idea and somehow lived to kill things for us instead.
