Releases / Re: [A12/13] Area Rugs
May 02, 2016, 02:07:21 PM
Does this mod offer any practical/strategic gains over vanilla?

eg. can you mass construct and sell rugs for good return, or do dyed cloth clothing sell for a premium? Also, do area rugs give better beauty than
vanilla carpet?

I know its an arbitrary distinction for some people, but I like to group the mods I use into purely cosmetic and mechanic-altering.

thanks! fantastic looking mod btw~

Rooki1, could you please post this to the A13 mod announcement release thread? Its very convenient to be able to scroll through there and I'd like to see your mods in the list since they're all ready :)

Thanks for replying! I'd love to see it updated for A13; individual appearance helps alot in humanizing pawns -

Really fantastic. The rugs are great, but the cloth dying is a game changer in itself. Any interest in making a stand-alone dye vat mod?

Is there any chance of this mod updating for A13, or is there a spiritual successor of some sort?

My god, a tribal I recently converted had to watch as we killed her mother and sister on their next attack. The colony wouldn't even let her bury them within the walls; she had to find a secluded place in the woods to bury them herself, then carved two awful wood statues to memorialize them. Then, when she is feeling like visiting a grave, she always goes to where somebody elses pet pig Reginald is buried instead of her own family members.

I know this is a different issue than funerals, but it would definitely be compelling if pawns choose what grave to visit based on their relations with the deceased.

- chance to visit grave as joy activity: [however it is currently calculated vs other joy activities]
- choice of which grave to visit: [check distance, and relationships with the deceased] "visiting mother's grave" "visiting husband's grave"
- add chance to get a special buff/debuff upon visiting a friend/relative/enemy's grave: eg. "you killed my father, prepare to die!" or "spits on grave of enemy" or "saying farewell"

something like that

I renamed one of my colonists "Corpse bearer" because he was constantly having to haul corpses (no spare dirt to bury them on the ice sheet). People died just entering the map on a good day, and winters were brutal for anyone without shelter, a heat source and a parka. It averages -100F on my ice sheet colony. I am mostly just playing it to see how ludicrous the body pile-up can get so I've cheated mood bonuses (no items), and occasionally zapped some raids that get sent that are way out of my league.

Anyway point of the matter is that if this was added you'd have a lot dying from colonists freezing their asses off mourning a dead friend or family member on the extreme end of the cold biomes at least.

This is a good point. Not every death calls for a funeral. I liked Silvador's suggestions up above, where there is a xx% chance of "pawn A wants to have a funeral for recently deceased pawn B", just like engagements and parties that give you some time to prepare and set the locale, etc.

This xx% chance of funeral trigger could be based on numerous factors, like:

-deceased needs to have been a colonist
-deceased needs to have been recently buried
-deceased needs to have more than xx% affinity with one or more living colonists
-deceased needs to have been a member of the colony for xx% of its entire duration

I just had another death. Man, losing a colonist you really love is the #1 "thing" that happens in Rimworld.

Funerals.

Nothing stands out in Rimworld more than the death of one of your favorite colonists. Friends, lovers, leaders, when they die, it hurts. What better use for scripted social events than a funeral?

What is the value of kibble over haygrass?

This said,  a challenge for the team : i don't recall ever hearing music which seems to fit a "hardtimes"  vibe,  like after a raid kills several people,  or  moods are incredibly low...

That's a really interesting idea mumble. I certainly like the raid-triggered music; maybe a colonist death triggered track, with scripted funerals to go along with weddings? You should post this in suggestions.

Anyway, back to the music, I hope we get a few more tracks with the next update! The freshness increases the more we have, and whenever one of the earliest tracks come back around it always gives me a pang.

I think a game's music is a huge part of setting the playing experience. I know that when it comes to time-intensive, mechanics heavy sim games like this, many people tend to mute the music and put on their own, but I really I think the soundtrack to rimworld is fantastic and I can't play without it. From the mesmerizing opening theme, through the every day tracks and raid music, and on to the tear-jerker of a finale, it's just tops.

I'm not sure how many tracks exactly were added, but I'm loving the incremental expansion of Alistair Lindsay's music for the game through A12 and now A13, and I hope to see more. The style feels at the same time saccharine and musak-ey, while still completely appropriate with its subtle space cowboy vibe. I read a review of Stardew Valley recently that called the tone of that game "unapologetically earnest" and I think that's a fitting description to Lindsay's soundtrack as well.

Anyway, I haven't seen anybody mention the added music from A13, so I just wanted to show some love and say thanks to Tynan and Alistair.

Rimworld Alpha 13 will likely release sometime in the second week of April, 2016.

However, due to a recent localized quantum fluctuation in space-time, the next ten or so days until release will be perceived as lasting eons, nearly 812.84 million (relative)years, by virtually all conscious beings on earth. As predicted by Anatoly Vlasov [Vlasov, 1978], this localized time dilation anomaly, centered in the Wolf 359 system (approx. 8 light years from our solar system), has already been measured by CERN as a gradual divergence in crystal oscillation frequencies in atomic clocks across the planet.

What does this mean for the average person? This is a difficult question we will all need to face in the coming days, or millennia rather. Somewhere in the intersection between space-time and the ability of our biological consciousness to perceive its perennial march, this cosmic slow down will at the same time grow exponentially while still feeling infinitesimally gradual. And it has already begun.

For those who are eagerly anticipating some moment in the near future, awareness of this phenomenon hits hardest, described by many as a constant, screaming voice in the back of their heads, begging to be let free. Scientists, philosophers, spiritual leaders, they have all take on what this means to us. Some see it as agonizing torment, an inescapable hell on earth. Others feel as though we have been granted near immortality.

But there is one simple fact that I think we can all agree on, friends. The period of time between now and the release of A13 feels, and will continue to feel, like a trillion fucking years.

Strictly speaking, the amount of time until the heat death of the universe can be measured in days too.

I'm sorry - I'm just having a powerfully visceral lesson in time perception subjectivity due to chronic hype fatigue. I know, I really know in my heart, that we will all be dead and gone, long gone, before A13 is released.

I'll see you in heaven with the angels.
