It's a little bit disconcerting when your colonists relax socially... alone. And when they play go with themselves. I could go on, but that would be beating a dead horse.

A <joyMinParticipants> variable would fix this by making it so colonists don't talk to themselves all of the time! It would also make life easier for modders who want to add more joy activities in. You can't play football alone, no matter how hard you try.

Mods / Re: Where's Ultimate Overhaul Modpack?

The project you currently know as The Ultimate Overhaul Modpack is now private so that I can continue to work on it unhindered.

It has gotten to the point for me that I do not want to check my own thread or PM's for what comments that might be waiting, and fear of what content might be at risk next.

Only myself and my sponsors will have access to my project and its updates until RimWorld and my project has reached final release. I will be rebuilding the project from the ground up. Once the Modpack is a final release along with RimWorld someone will release it to the public.

I am going to lay it on you strait, too many people do not understand that issues come from people that have an issue and create an issue otherwise there would be no issue, either with me or the modpack, you probably already know how I feel about such people. To put it lightly any modder that does not wish to have their content included in the pack and wants to whine and snivel like a baby will be regarded as such and as someone who does not have the goodwill to allow the community to enjoy their content the way everyone wants it to be enjoyed.

You will be forced into submission of goodwill and you will consider yourselves to be privileged to have your content included in such a masterpiece!

The only response to this that you are allowed is Sir, Yes Sir!

Do I make myself clear?

It is a rhetorical question to which the only answer is Yes Sir!

I do not care for negative responses and they will be ignored as your opinion does not matter to me if you do not share my vision.

The public will have what they want I promise you that.

Anyone that wants to continue a public release of their own iteration of the Modpack is more than welcome to do so.

I wish you luck!

To the much deserving community of good people I love you and I am truly sorry that I can no longer publicly provide you with what should have been an unhindered project.

My decision has been made, I have my reasons and I have spoken and you will respect that and that is final!

Sincerely, Ninefinger

For posterity, I am saving this in case it is necessary.

I like to chant. Am I weird? For a while, my favourite chant was a Jewish liturgical chant about a lost city.

I always have at least one master scientist in every colony, for roleplay reasons. Unless you have Einstein/Feynman/Oppenheimer with you, how else are you going to build a spaceship out of scrap metal and escape to the stars?

Also remember-

Raiding pawns cannot stand on chunks. If you build a walled box, and have chunks block the entrances and front of the entrances completely, there is nowhere for any raiding pawn to take cover. They won't even be able to snipe you because there is no position they can possibly snipe you from.

I want to play Rimworld, but honestly I'm kinda clueless on how to without this mod. Vanilla is just too lacking in content and depth after having experienced a modpack, to go back. There's the hardcore SK pack, but I had a number of deal breaker issues with it.

Which just leaves the last option of having dozens of stand-alone mods. But I can't really imagine this working well. They need to balanced towards one another, and coordinate with one another as far as progression goes, especially if they share common, modded resources. A modpack seems mandatory for a big modding scene to thrive, and if I'm wrong about that, then by all means let me know how you guys do it.

I'm afraid Nine was only paying attention to the negativity. From what I recall, there were compliments all around in that thread. It's not like it was totally unappreciated. As the saying goes, the squeaky wheel is the loudest :\

God bless TheGent though, because he's planning to keep UOP going. He's going to spend an estimated two months getting permissions for what he can and working around mods he can't get permissions for. You can hold on to your outdated version until then.

Because Tynan's taking a sabbatical break, the time when TheGent releases a functional modpack would theoretically line up with the next updates to rimworld.

It is a little sad that nine finger is disappearing. He may have been controversial and wasn't perfect, but the UOP made my experience and the experience of many others far better and more convenient. The work of juggling mods manually would have consisted of hundreds of hours if everybody had to do it on their own, and the mix of possible mods would have been poorer and less varied. He spent a great deal of time trying to make a compatible and balanced experience for everyone, and mostly succeeded.

RIP ninefinger, may your contributions and controversies in the end ultimately prove to sum up positively for the rimworld community, as I believe it shall. He did a hella of work clunking things together and I'm amazed my computer doesn't literally die every time I load things up.

Had to unload this mod, negotiator tries to improve relations with everyone by default and if she fails enough I get attacked. Is there a way to make negotiator leave people alone by default? Having to change the option for every single visitor every time is a deal breaker, especially when I got orion corp visiting with a dozen plus friends.

edit- Aaaand I gotta restart because unloading this mod breaks saves...may you get an intense itch in a private place while you are in public....

It's probably been weeks since you've restarted your game, but next time, you should probably try restoring your save.

Even if you don't have any autosaves or manual saves from before your installation, you can check out the properties, and from there, click on restore. That's PC advice, but I'm pretty sure Mac has some sort of feature similar to that as well..

I just like how, canonically, space travel is very difficult, and only possible with longer-term cryo-pods and "sleeper" ships.

But, you know, space-borne trading ships travel overhead every couple of days. Casuallly ;)

If I had my way, the only people you could trade with would be the people around you, on the planet. Which would give you a great incentive not to piss them off.

You know, that makes a lot more sense than the system we have now. I've never thought about it deeply before.

Ideas / Re: Stealth Mechanics
September 28, 2015, 01:07:15 AM
Our lord and chief developer Tynan said that he can't add stealth mechanics in, not because  it would be impossible, but because he built and balanced the entire game around the notion that players would be able to see everything.

Whether a modder could do it is a different question, and one I would also like to see answered. I could see an attack by a single stealth predator being terrifyingly awesome.

Maybe what we need here is a different unhappy thought for psychopaths. Instead of the "I feel horrible" nonsense, they need something less severe like "I just ate another human being. It didn't taste as bad as I thought it would, but it was still pretty disgusting".

+1

Raw Cannibalism

"Urgh. Human flesh. It tastes awful."

Cooked Cannibalism

"Cooked human flesh tastes disgusting. Who mixed it with fava beans?"

Open dev console, run volcano winter, cold snap, toxic fallout and 5 8000point mech raids...

To anyone who wants to try this, do NOT spawn a raid that the game tells you cannot be spawn. I borked a game I'd been running since a11b by spawning a bunch of mechanoids on siege. Because mechanoids can't siege, even after I killed them all their AU kept looping and lagging the game.

MORE WIPs!

(My safe file was corrupted a few days ago fuck, so might as well show a bit of progress so far just in case Potatoshop decides to be a dick again.)

This is just the cutest picture! It really makes me think about what those 16 year old youth are doing stranded alone. Their lives have hardly begun!

It really is strange that everybody appears to be chill with harvesting and eating the liver of a dead person, while they freak out when you harvest an organ from a brain dead person.
