i managed to get 6 ships in half a year after my 'Russian winter' killed all the caravans and their beasts of burden before they could trade with me so i think they plain out just added caravans into the traders list and had them priority so if someone trades with them, they will again come back,thus denying 1 the ability to get the trade ships.That needs to be fixed, not trading with land caravans being outright better once 1 builds a comm station. Traders on a whole tend to come once a month

shooting down the caravans? Thats nothing, when the temp outside is -100C All the pack animals drop down right at the entrance of the colony. Thats some way to gift for playing ice sheets. I reached a point where i would trade all the things i want with the caravan, knowing that there is a 50% for it to die anyway before it decides to go home in the summer

Recently in my attempt to tame the coldest place in rimworld in the new patch,i had finally gotten my 2 starting peeps to marry and just as they entered the altar pirates decided it was time to lay siege on me, forcing the marriage to cancel. Anyone else have had something like this occur during a party/marriage?

i havent seen it too. OT, i had 3 ships in my summerafter year1, but i had only got 1 land caravan in the previous 2 seasons each and they had both died due to extreme ice sheet cold and refused to trade with the 2 in the fall so i had went 3 seasons without trade. Randy extreme may have trolled too.

i decided to show the insects why its a bad decision to come to me by reducing the temp of the heaters in the room they showed up from 21 to -129C when the outside temp was -120C .Froze them all to death in 20hrs while i locked the door for my colonists. Froze those bugs to death when i only had a shotgun and the starting guns as modern weapons. Also helped to kill the 3 spiders when they were 60% frozen by shotguns. Just had to turn my dining room into an emergency sleeping spot barrack.

we used to build a killbox and then order a turret to focus fire a thumbo that had reached the entrance with no colonists nearby. Also choosing which centipede to attack was huge as we ignored the minigun and charge rifle ones and focused on the really deadly incendiary ones

components,yes gold not so much. Only exotic traders have it and they are rare like ,well just too rare.It would be lucky to get 1 exotic trader in a year and he has 50% to have gold, and u need plasteel too and thats even more luck based.The land trading caravans dont bring that much,they only accept a reasonable amount of items, which is balanced as u could just accidentally kill and take all their items

a faction penalty for trader death is bad unless there is some way to stop them from coming in the first place.Like what about my ice sheet where winter temps go to -100C?without a masterwork parka or a woolen parka, they ARE going to die,no matter what unless i got a powered heating place very close to where they spawn.and even if i did have 1 ,they need to get in the place to live disabling which is also requested in the topic, like visitors eating our food once again.
A better solution will be to mark everything(including plants and resources) with a faction ownership,maybe even individual ownership for items in someones rooms and death drops may be changed to neutral so we can claim it.Traders from 1 faction cannot interact with the items and plant with others, but this will have a huge memory issue for good farming colonies

it is not the traders but the visitors with whom u can trade too(they only got the weapons and food to trade) that eat your food. I took revenge upon them by freezeing them all to death before they could even eat anything as the outside temp dropped to -120C
