Bugs / Re: [1.0] Visitors not obeying forbidden doors.

Yes and no. Your right pawns and animals go super sayian and break though stuff when trapped. But yeah I don't know the full story but still few things locking doors can do that the devs just want to avoid. Which is why it's not Vanilla. I can sort of think of situations but not well enough to put it into words. The whole pawns breaking stuff when trapped itself is still not flawless. Ways to still take advantage. Locked doors makes it a little easier.

I'm glad your making this post. Thanks. But I think this is intended behavior. The reason why is forbidden is not locking. Colonists or pawns whatever you want to call them will go though doors that are forbidden when they go on mental breaks!

And I think visitors and such will use forbidden doors because players can use this to abuse the game. For example you can trap visitors in a giant reinforced room. Forbid the doors and starve, burn or freeze the visitors and loot what they drop. Stuff like that. Same for raiders. Except raiders have to bash doors to open them. So you don't have to forbid a door to stop a raider. However forbidding does keep your own colonists and pets I think from using a door unless they go on a mental break.

But I'm not a Dev and sometime even I make mistakes. So maybe I am wrong.

I don't see locked doors ever coming to Vanilla. But I think there is a mod. In the very least there was a locked door mod for earlier versions of Rimworld. But keep in mind depending on how you use the Locked Door mod you can badly abuse the game and exploit stuff. But that's in your hands as it's a mod.

And, there we go. Updated to 1.0, rearranged settings, touched up description, added an option to make "great memory" not useless, made compatible with Fluffy's Mod Manager. Enjoy!

WHAT! Come on your making the rest of us look bad. Amazing! lol Thanks.

Yes many of the B19 should work? But in the past I still got console popups even when using mods that did work simply because in the coding they were signed for another version etc? I don't know if that is the case. But since I build 20+ mod packs for myself. I don't want to take chances. I'm only putting in Mods that say 1.0 and only after reading the last 3-4 comments on the mod post forum to make sure people are not complaining or posting a known issue etc. Also read any change logs or mod incompatibility in the description. Do that and most mods will work fine together. lol

I said this a lot recently but....

Thank you Tynan! Thank you Ison!  Thank you other Devs!

And I also have to thank Testers, Modders, people who did awesome fan art! lol

Bugs / Re: Keyboard does not work
October 17, 2018, 02:09:40 PM
I found two bugs that may or may not be related at all to this? And I can't rule out Mod or User error either. But I'm sharing these here because if this is a real bug the Devs will want to see these.

#1. Version [1.0.2059] , No mods. https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/1735468061755621798/
This has been fixed as well. Here is what the User with the Bug did to resolve.
"Did a reinstall, didn't work.
Then i tought maby some files were corrupt that steam couldnt detect or something lingering behind from the update so i deleted rimworld from both the %appdata% folder and in my steam folder, reinstalled and now it works again. "

It's possible that #1 and the einie may be having a similar issue?

#2. B19 - Modded https://steamcommunity.com/app/294100/discussions/0/1735468061755650689/
Okay #2 is very like mod related. Been following the issue on Steam.
#142
I remember him saying no. But I don't have a source and I don't know if my memory is serving me correctly? I checked on Steam and I don't see any.
#143
Thank you Fluffy some of these mods have made it into the "I almost can't play Rimworld without these categories."

You can convert the steam version to afaik a "DRM free" version by copying the folder out and removing a few steam specific files.

That is something I did not know about? Nice one zizard. Will it work exactly like DRM free? You can even add the command line? Then just keep a vanilla copy as backup. And make as many copies for each game just like I do? If that is possible. Anyone reading this I strongly suggest you look into it? Does it go against polices on this forum to discuss that? If it does not... please anyone provide a link to like a guide to do this.

Is there a guide or youtube video that may help people? I have no reason to do this as I own legit Ludeon Version. But if this is allowed I STRONGLY RECOMMEND it... you won't even need to buy another copy. And the Steam related issues go away. Thanks for that information that's part of why I made this thread helpful feedback.

Anybody know any official times of update tomorrow? Or even estimates. I estimate by 3PM Eastern Standard Time but I don't know how correct or not that is.

Also for anyone who finds it hard to deal with Steams auto update... saves or mods getting broken etc... If you want a possible better solution. Read the forum post I just made. https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=46214.0
Also read the 1st reply I got...

Here is what I expect from Rimworld...

Bugs to be crushed... Does not matter how often or how many bug updates come. I want to see some... and I hope they crush most bugs. In game like this bugs may crop up years later. But they will be rare. And not all may be patched. If they take years to appear then they are really uncommon and no big deal anyhow. Possible some could be patched by unofficial mod bug patches but I do hope that Devs work on bugs for several months or more at least.

Mods to grow, get better, and maybe more patches to make certain mods work together. Once the dust settles mod makers can probably focus more on quality of there mod. VS updating it all the time just to work with new versions.

Here is what I hope from Rimworld...

Same as above.... Except more content updates... Paid or unpaid I don't care... I DON'T want them to come in the next year. They need to be thought out.... worked on... the devs need a break at least.... and I want the dust to settle so we can get kind of a final product feel before the Devs may add expansion packs etc.

But even if no more content comes this game is already worth it. And the mods just make it better.

Thank you Devs and Modders!

Okay the title of this forum thread does not really express what the purpose of this thread is...
Just recently I read this forum...

https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=45969.0
in a nut shell the link above is about someone complaining that every time game or mods update
everything goes to hell in a hand basket. And that updates are hard to avoid. I can't understand why this is Tynans fault?
kind of how mods and stuff work... I have read other people complain about the same thing.
But I have a solution for everyone who has this issue.

The solution requires owning a copy of the official site version of the game. Not everyone
will be happy to re-buy the game. I started with the official site version and bought a Steam Copy just for fun
and support. But maybe I am weird? However the official site version in my opinion is better. I will discuss some of the
pros and cons. And Steam has it's pros too! But the main reason I feel Ludeon version is better... is the following...

When you download a copy of the DRM Free Ludeon Version of Rimworld. It comes in a folder and does not need to install.

  • It runs from a standalone folder.
  • You can have as many copies of this folder as you want.
  • You can have a separate Save and Mod Folder inside each one.
  • The game and mods won't automatically update for any reason.
  • In theory if it works once it will work 10 years later.
  • If the game updates you can re-download it as another folder. You can still keep your old copies.

I still play A13 games with custom mod packs I personally setup years ago. But I mainly play A17 right now.
In fact I have four copies of A17. The reason I have four copies is each concurrent game I'm playing has it's own copy.

And you can rename the Rimworld Folder to anything... I have a naming scheme that goes something like this...

Version - Vanilla or Modded - Name of Colony or Nickname for game.
So here are my current games...

[Folder Names]
A17 - Vanilla - Night's Watch
A17 - Modded - Dormouse Inn
A17 - Modded - Zombie Survivor
A17 - Modded - Star Wars

No updates, no accidentally mixing up mod or save files. Simple.... However I can't use Steam mods easily. There is a way
to install them but most mods on Steam are on these forums anyhow. I have taken some Mods from Steam and they work
but I forgot how I did it etc. I have not done it recently. lol

So the Steam Version has auto updating and Steam workshop. But both versions of the game can make use of any mod if you know what your doing. And guess what? I think it's your last chance to buy Rimworld from the official site without it costing full price? I'm not saying most people should do this.

Plus the common updates for the Steam Version will eventually come to an end. Well both versions. Bug updates won't be as serious as full beta updates. But still any update can cause issues and mods can update as well on Steam right? Either way I still find the Ludeon Version to be worth it. But even if the Steam version does not update often in the future. The save files are always going to be together right? And same with mod packs? You will have to manually copy and paste and change up the mod packs etc. The Ludeon version has none of these issues.

Finally you do have to add a command line to the Ludeon version to make it do as I say! You need to make a custom shortcut for the games .exe and add this "-savedatafolder=SaveData" but the game comes with a readme that explains it.

If anyone has any solutions or feedback let us know? I just wanted everyone to know this encase they did not know it. And I knew some people
who already owned the non-steam version and did not know you can add the command line and make them all run within just that folder.

I will admit that I did not read everyones comments in this whole thread. I skimmed though it. But here are my thoughts.

1st.... Vanilla Rimworld is great. In my opinion as few as 10-20 mods does make a world of difference. When you add more mods they conflict with each other and yes that will cause lag and other issues and bloat the game. Welcome to every game ever as all of that is normal and can't really be fixed.

2nd.... Half of the issues your talking about are STEAM related. And Tynan may add in options to select to prevent certain types of auto updating and yes the mod makers have be careful as well.

3rd.... This ties in directly with #2.... Ummm I hate to admit this.... I own Rimworld on Steam for fun. Or as extra support. In some ways it's convenient to own steam version. But I can't play Rimworld on Steam Version. I can't.... For the main reason in this forum. I owned a copy of the official site version LONG before the game was released on Steam. And the great awesome thing about the other version. Is that is does not automatically update. And neither do any of the mods.

So you download the game from the official site. Make your mod pack. And if it works once it will work 10 years later in theory.... No updates. Now if you do want to update it. You download it again as a new version. And wow and behold you have BOTH versions as separate folders.

To date I still have full copies of the game for
A10
A11
A12
A13
A14
A15
A17
And soon
Version 1.0

I don't have B18 or B19 because I did not play them they had bugs I hated.

And I have multiple copies of A17 each with there own personalized set of mods.

For example

A17 - Vanilla - Night's Watch
A17 - Modded - Dormouse Inn
A17 - Modded - Zombie Land
A17 - Modded - Starwars

So I have 4 copies of A17 each with a custom mod set. Including Vanilla. And I can play any one I want anytime. No fears of updates. And they are all 100% separate on Save Files and Mods. So I can't even accidentally delete or save over the wrong file.

Now it's not really Tynans fault for how it is on Steam. If you really love Rimworld and want to avoid this problem completely I would suggest buying the game again on the website. But most people won't do that. Which is okay I don't blame you.

I play on 300 x 300 or 325 x 325.

Any smaller than those two I feel is to small. Any larger to much lag. I play with decent amount of mods. Sometimes around 30 mods. Single Core CPU power is the #1 important thing to determine lag. Video Card and Ram and even multicore CPU and all does help. But primarily single core strength is the bottleneck. I have a I7 7700k (Not Over Clocked) and with a lot of mods I run into decent lag issues at 325 x 325. 300 x 300 is a little better. And I really have not played on smaller than 300 x 300 in a long time. I have before but it limits me and it feels like I don't have enough room to enjoy how I play. Still on my PC you can see specs below even 325 x 325 is not so bad. But I would advice caution going above 300 x 300. And even on my PC I tried the next one up from 325 x 325 and it was fairly lagged for me.

I don't think any size is cheaty? To me it's more about lag control. Some things are harder on smaller maps. Some things are harder on larger maps. If there was no lag I would go the highest map size. Difficulty scales with size in a sense that on larger maps your going to have to travel farther to deal with Physic and Poison Ships etc. In extreme heat or cold things like that are harder on larger maps. This is only just one example.

Owe so it's not just three or four types of leather? It's that whole list? That is better than I thought. Thanks for posting that list. lol Saving it for use. So thanks again B@R5uk. By the way B@R5uk that looks like an awesome excel doc. You made that yourself? Does anyone know how I can get a copy?

And there were at least three player made mods that condensed leather before Tynan came up with a system himself that means that more people like this new way than before I think. Okay I kind of still miss the old way. But I hate change. lol Still this change has it's upsides.
