I have a 7700K Processor 4.2Ghz which automatically increases to 4.5Ghz during full use. Which is one of the most powerful Single Core Processors. Well the processor is a quad core. However Rimworld mostly depends on single core strength for performance. Even I run into lag on Larger maps or using tons of mods. If I play on the largest possible map it is completely unplayable with multiple mods. Your best option is you get the most powerful PC possible like a 7700K or the new upcoming 8700K and overclock it and make sure your PC has good cooling. Even then your going to have more lag then you probably want.

For those of you who have played since before A16 or whenever Tynan changed the world map to a globe instead of a flat map view. Remember being able to view things by temperature, Rainfall and Elevation? Basically it colored the map depending on what type of view you selected to quickly find cold or hot areas etc.

Is it possible to please have some or all of those features back please Dev Team? Thank you. Don't get me wrong the new map rocks. But those features are now lost at the moment.

Thanks and I agree I will use C and F. Because if you use C in game. Then multiple places will have the exact temperature. But in F you can see tiny differences that you can't by just using C. Like 150.4F and 150.5F will both show as the same in C within Rimworld. See what I mean. But once I am sure I have found some of the very coldest or hottest possible I will simply switch to C and add the degrees in both C and F.

By the way I just found a colder spot and updated it just a minute ago. But I only just started and I imagine others will find way hotter or colder then I will.

Use this calculator to convert if you need to. I will do this later myself.

General Discussion / [B18] Coldest or Hottest Seeds!

These seeds are Null and Void and won't work for B19 or 1.0 See link to new forum below for 1.0. And B19 was short lived so no forum for it made by me.

I wanted to start a discussion. Since Rimworld changed to a planet over-world the old seeds no longer apply. 

It is quite easy to generate a very hot or very cold landing site now because of the temperature sliders. But I am wondering if anyone has found any amazingly cold or hot seeds that surpass the rest? I have not done to much searching yet. But post your seeds and info below. Also if you know what type of settings produce the hottest or coldest landing sites please share your knowledge below. At some point in the future I am going to go on a quest to try and find some.

Below are the Coldest and Hottest I have found so far. I will update these if others post about Colder/Hotter landing sites. I have done a fair bit of searching but I have only just started. I will work on this for a while. Please anyone post any world record temps you find.

Notes:
1. I don't think Rainfall meter changes the temperature. I used same seed and found same landing site. With 100% the same temp with both Min and Max Rainfall Setting. Knowing this will make it easier.

2. For now I am going to stick to F. I am Canadian so I mainly understand C. But F is more accurate to search with. Later I will put both C and F once I or we start to find the lowest and highest possible.

3. Tip when searching for cold locations. It actually helps to move the temp slider higher. This way areas that still have snow stand out more. Then you can find the coldest places. Change the slider to the very coldest and confirm the actual lowest temps. This won't work for everyone.

---------------------------Hacking Via Cheat Engine!--------------------------------------

Since the game now has a Temperature Slider during world Generation. I thought I would be smart and open up Cheat Engine. And map the values for this slider. And then modify the value so it would go beyond the range of the slider. I was successful at finding the value of the slider. In the lowest possible position (Coldest) it has a 4 Byte value of 0. And at the highest or hottest possible value it's a 4 byte value of 6. I can even modify or change this value. For example I made it a 10, 20 etc. And then started world gen.

What I expected
The world to gen with above MAX intended temps. Because 6 is the highest the bar let you go. So a 7 or higher should be hotter.

What Happened
The world generates as though you had the bar on NORMAL. So average temperature. Basically the game no longer sees the bar at all and draws/calculates default NORMAL temperature. 

So next I tried a couple things. I tried searching for other for other values in Cheat Engine that increase or decrease as I change the bar. And there is roughly 121 to 126 other values that change in the background when you adjust this bar. I fiddled around with those for over 40 minutes. And I managed to crash the game various times when generating the world. I did generate one world that was 100% frozen! But it crashed I could only see the world in the background and got a game crash error. So basically one of the many values I edited probably did change the threshold beyond the normal intention. But it's hard to narrow it down. As each time I need to start all over again when it crashes. Sometimes when I modify the values nothing happens. Other times it crashes. I have yet to find out how to hack temp values during world gen. I will try some more later but it may not be possible. You see I change many values all at once maybe if I find just the correct values to change it will change temp and won't provide a crash. Anyone who knows cheat engine probably understands what I mean. I have 120+ values of random numbers and I can't figure out which ones can be safely edited to create no crash as well as change in temperature.  If you want to give it a go I would love it if someone could find the correct values.

The Pause/Unpause until feature is Vanilla but yes you do have to select "Do Until" to get that option.

If you don't play the Steam Version you can sort of do this already. Not the way your thinking but if you own the DRM Free Version bought from Ludeon then you can just have multiple instances of the game each in their own standalone folders. Each folder will have it's own dedicated standalone Save Data Folder and Mod Folder.

Message me if you need help setting that up. But if you play Steam version it's not really possible.

I would love their to be a Stat that can be adjusted to change Pawn Hit Points or Health. Basically lets say an Arm has 30HP. At 150% it would have 45HP.  At 50% it would have 15HP.  Right now I can't find a way to do this? The Modify Hit Point stat only effects buildings etc. Does this already exist? If not it would be a neat Stat to be able to adjust. Thanks.

And I would like it to effect all Pawns, Animals, Mechs, Insects etc.

Thanks for finding this. I kind of hope B18 gets an update to like B18b etc. Because I know Rimworld usually lasts 3-6 months between updates. Already some of these bugs for B18 made me stop playing it. I am sure Tynan will decide if he needs to patch some of these now instead of B19.

Sorry I don't have enough time right now to upload a save but I can confirm this bug. But I started a brand new colony on B18 Steam.  No mods. And I easily reproduced this.

1. Use Dev Mod to spawn some cats.
2. Use Dev Mod to spawn some small animals. I tried a couple but started with rats.
3. Use the Dev Mod tool to make animals hungry.
4. The cats don't hunt. They will still eat meals. Without meals present they still don't hunt.

Note: Not using any animal zones or restrictions.

Sorry for the late reply. I am sure you would just LOVE for me to abandon my new PC and give it to you! lol I loved your comment thanks. I sort of gave up on FPS for now. Mainly because I don't even have a working program that can do FPS tests. I used to use Fraps but I don't think it works well anymore on Windows 10. umm.... So for now I am putting this on hold.

I finally updated my first Rimworld video. It has an FPS display. You can see how my computer handles the game. This video is more of a test it's not what I would consider a proper benchmark it's just going to show how my game plays under certain situations. I also had to test the recording software, editing and upload process. And it's also just to show you all my colony as well. In the future I hope to put up a more concrete thought out video with more purpose. Take a look if your interested.

Thanks for the advice Bozobub it's would have been very helpful if I did use raid. But Renegrade is correct they are both independent. Let me describe my whole setup. 

I have a dual monitor PC setup. (I used to use three but one blew up. Two works for now.) With a PCI-E Capture Card in my PC. I have an HDMI Matrix hooked up to various video game systems that can dual output to both my T.V and to the PCI-E Capture Card. I use my SSD for O.S, various programs and certain select games. My first 4TB Hard Drive carries the bulk of my other programs and most if not nearly all pictures and video files and games. The second 4TB drive is eventually going to have around 1-2TB of project files. And the other 2TB or more will always be left empty for a blank slate for recording. I use various programs to record both PC games and console games onto my PC. The uncompressed files are large then I compress them later. So the 2TB is temp room for recordings and the other 2TB is for the final compressed projects. 

As for backup it's not automated by raid or program. I simply have multiple external hard drives. And I keep about three copies of very important files. And two copies of nearly all files. Only files I really don't consider important at all may have no backups. But 99.9% of all files are backup up and a lot of them have 3+ copies.

And Renegrade I see what you mean by Userbenchmark I personally trust it but now that you mention it if the owner did want to put malicious content in the software I guess they could. That goes for most sites and programs though. And while it's Benchmark aspects are kind of awesome I do use other programs as well. You can't always rely on one Benchmark. Your PC seems good and I agree spending tons of extra money for virtual the same performance is not that great of an idea. 

This PC of mine basically needs to last 7-8 years. I expect three years of high performance. 3 years after that of moderate performance, and then 1-3 years of usability but diminishing performance for any current gen game or program at that time. I do plan on three possible upgrades.

1. Adding capture card? : You see I don't actually have the capture card yet. My previous PC has one but my primary setup is not complete for my new PC yet. Within one month I plan to buy and install a capture card. Any advice on a good PCI-E capture card? I am still doing research.

2. I will be upgrading my video card to a good $500-$800 price range card over 1 and a half years from now.

3. I plan to upgrade my CPU cooling and or CPU if possible. I know it's possible to upgrade cooling but I want like a eight core 4.2Ghz or higher CPU basically something that does not exist now without overclocking and by the time it does exist it may not be supported by my motherboard. So I may only upgrade my cooling and then overclock my 7700k.

P.S I know GHZ itself means nothing. Like I think you were saying about Moore's law. More is not always better. Different CPU's with the same Ghz can perform extremely differently. But usually if it's within the same brand and product lineup then it can be considered a proper way to measure performance. So when comparing two cpu's it's important to look at price, performance in benchmark and specs. But I ultimately want to eventually get a CPU that has eight or more cores were each individual core can be as powerful as the 7700k. Which like I said overclocking is the only possible way to achieve that now and I may not be able to support a CPU like that with my current motherboard I might get close but not quite what I want. I am happy right now.

The results. Well I have not done full on benchmarks yet. Like FPS tests but I will probably still go though with my plans.  I have played for about 25 hours of game play on my new PC. But ultimately the game lags and slows down a lot still even on my new PC. I play the DRM free version. And I play on a fairly small landing site size. But I get like 30 colonists with a good 5-10 pets and like 25+ mods and I run into a fair bit of slow down. It goes back and forward between nearly seemless and slowing down.

The CPU is almost always the bottle neck. My CPU cooler is not good enough for any overclocking but none the less I have about the most powerful single core strength CPU minus overclocking. So it's just how Rimworld is. Speed drops are going to be common when it's late game, huge base, lots of colonists and plenty of mods. But it's more then playable still so it's still great.

And I can run Fallout 4 on 100% maxed settings 1920x1080, with the enhanced texture package download installed at a solid 90-110 FPS even during combat segments in the game. This is not even on my SSD not that SSD will do much in terms of FPS. So it's not the PC it's just Rimworld optimization and without multicore support which likely will never come I don't think rimworld will ever run flawlessly in this conditions until maybe 5-10 years from now.

P.S Rimworld is installed on my SSD.
