It's  not 'unplayable' from a technical aspect.. just that the mod really enhances gameplay for many.  The game is perfectly playable either way.

Well, prepare carefully is a mod, I am sure you realize, and not part of the base game.   So without that mod.. all versions have the random colonists.   As to the starting scenarios.  It's basically 1st is normal start... 2nd is Solo start.. and 3rd is for a group of tribes people.

I am not sure what you mean by the UI being tiny.. it looks exactly the same to me as other recent versions.

I agree with some of the above.. without Prepare Carefully mod.. the game is nearly unplayable for me.  I just prefer making my own custom starting colonists and their looks.   If that means I will have to play earlier versions.. then so be it.

Though to be honest I am sure some mod author will take over and create something similar.. it's too popular a mod to lose.

I agree with some of the above.

If there isn't going to be substantial changes then just end with a really good update and then let modders take it from there.

I personally love playing with mods, and having to wait for mods to get updated for each new version.. becomes a bit much.   Plus a lot of mod authors probably get tired of having to keep updating and we end up losing really great Mod creators.

Just my own thoughts. :)  As far as I am concerned the game right now in A14 is perfectly fine.  Can't wait for mods to catch up.

Don't most of these type games get a little stagnant towards the end?   That's when you start over on a different biome ... with different challenges and play the game differently.

Ah I see what you mean.  Perfect way to get rid of those pesky creatures and get some meats as well. :)

Won't the door close as soon as the first manhunter goes through? How would you keep it open long enough for the last one to go through and then have it autoshut?

Yeah, will have to try this idea sometime but this is the basics...

3 doors.  Door A  open ... pack chases colonist.. colonist lures to room.. goes through Door B (auto door).. travels around room through tunnel.. goes through Door C .. closes Door A.

End of Pack.. food for Colonists lol

I wonder how well a room with 2 doors would work with manhunters.  Keep one open to lure them in.. then close it behind them and just trap the whole pack inside till they starve.  Luring them in would be the challenge I suppose.

I'd be more worried that you will eventually burn yourself out on the game if you play that long.  All games eventually will get dull if you play them too much... except mmos.. I think they eventually just turn into zombies...

I agree with some of the others..  Bugs are a great source of meat. Setting up defenses against the bugs seems more reasonable. :)

Depending on the area you start, that changes everything.. but in general:

Food - Need to make plans for expanding your food reserves for supporting larger and larger colonies.

Medicine - Stock up on this a little at a time from the start.. herbal meds are nice...but grow slow.

Security - Figure out your defense plan.  Plan for everything. Sappers.. long range shooters.. Mechanoids and other dangers.

Lasty I'd say make sure you have a totally sealed base or at least a massive area with lots of food and medicine for when things like Toxic Fallout happens
