The great and ever productive kaptain_kavern already made it a reality.

General Discussion / Re: Smelting vs Mining?

Cargo pods. Definitely the main source of slag on my map.

Anyway Britnoth, if you don't approve of my test, you are free to create your own.

Since steel can be hauled 75 pieces at a time and slag chunks have to be hauled individually, I'm certain mining will remain the winner.

Well, you produced a totally one sided unfair test, and then were pleased with the result you always wanted from the beginning.

Try an equally one sided test:

Lvl 1 miner with a peg leg. Any 1 crafter with peg leg (neither affect speed). Then add in the time for peglegs to walk there and back say.... 100 tiles away. In the snow. And then him or someone else to haul it.

I suspect the smelting would then win quite easily.

My test set-up had the steel chunks right besides the pawn. He didn't have to walk, I even set the bill to drop on floor to ensure that. The miner stood right besides the raw resources, making the test conditions as equal and fair as possible. I'm the only one that actually went and tested it in dev mode to provide raw numbers, because I was curious.

You are free to test your suspicions in dev mode, but the question asked was "base time to smelt vs the base time to mine" not "is a peg legged miner faster than a smelter in snow".

I am unable to produce a reliable save file. If anyone else could, go right ahead.

You are completely neglecting the hauling aspect of it. A smelter has to fetch 10 steel worth of slag chunk, before he can even start smelting it. A miner can pick up 75 steel on their way back.

Mining is far more efficient than smelting.

My level 20 miner mined 3 tiles of steel, while my lvl 20 crafter smelted 2 chunks that were beside him. 105 steel vs 20 steel. This is very easily tested and verified in dev mode.

alxddd, they do not.

See this thread on reddit for proof. https://www.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/comments/52980c/the_thermodynamics_of_rimworld/

It also shows that a room with the corners cut off is equal to a room with corners in terms of temperature (MikeLemmers question), but I would say that the bottom right corner in OPs image already proved that.

What the circumstances were.
I had imprisoned one of my colonists in a prison with 4 other pirates. Everything was going well, they were all getting along. My spy-infiltrate was gathering valuable data on the hostile faction.

What happened?
A prison break happened, that's what! My spy was a double spy, and partook in the prison break, the scoundrel. The three healthy prisoners (including my imprisoned colonist) grabbed beer bottles and two of them (the pirates) ganged up on my colonist.

What you expected to happen.
I would expect all three prisoners to escape jointly, not beat the shit out of their potential brother-in-arms.

Steps we can follow to make the bug appear on our machine.
1. Imprison a colonist.
2. Imprison hostiles in the same prison as the colonist is.
3. Wait for the prison break.

Related to this, I had the option to "rescue" the downed colonist-turned-prisoner, but nothing happened.

Pardon the Russian language, not my video. Walk towards a door to open it. Once it's open it's possible to shoot out, but raiders can't shoot in.

Problem: Colonists with a bionic eye remain incapacitated after anaesthesia wears off.
Steps to reproduce: Get bionic eye. Install in colonist. Wait for colonist to wake up from anaesthesia. Keep waiting.

Hello Tynan,

Let me start by saying nice job on the A15. Quicker than expected, and I am psyched! Thanks for providing an unstable branch.

I just completed the tutorial and a few minutes of regular gameplay, and I feel one or two things are missing from the tutor. The most common newbie mistake I see mentioned on the RimWorld subreddit is to do with capturing instead of rescuing people from escape pods. The second most common 'mistake' is the buttons on the bottom right; regarding the automatic expansion of the homezone and categorized layout of the resource list.

Thanks again, and I'm off to play more!

General Discussion / Re: How to get megatherium wool?
August 16, 2016, 05:39:09 AM
The wool isn't forbidden when a colonist shaves an animal, regardless of homezone. I have a herd of muffalo grazing outside my base, and the wool gets hauled in without me doing anything.

I think it follows the same reasoning as unforbidden kills from tamed predators; because someone/thing from your faction interacted with it, it is unforbidden.

Now... how exactly do you make muffalo's drunk?

Muffaloes get hungry after a while. They'll eat/drink whatever is availabe. Sometimes that's your crops. Sometimes that's your beer stash.

Manhunting animals do a good job of killing the traders, but not the gear carrying muffalo. Getting those muffalos drunk off their rocker makes 'em drop all loot, same with using a shock lance.

I've had it happen twice. Once because I left power armor outside my base. The other occasion was while I was distracted fending off raiders to the south, sneaky raiders broke through a wall to the north. They found the two AI cores from the ships I had destroyed. I loved that.

I later tried leaving out a stockpile of 2k silver outside, but the tribals didn't take the bribe.
