It would be nice having a feeding tray object (maybe 1x3 or 1x2 size, kinda like the equipment rack, but for animal food) that would have the functionality that the tray with the least content would be filled first, unlike stockpiles where the closest one of the same priority level gets filled first.

I'm pretty sure you can use the "food cabinet" item (1x1) to store kibble in, and the animals will eat out of that. It doesn't hold much (75) though, so if you have several animals you might want a couple.

General Discussion / Re: Animal Zones

You can set up multiple zones, too. For instance if you want your dogs (let's say) to have free roam of the base but NOT go into certain rooms, you can set them to a zone called "doggy roam", and if you want all your chickens to stay in the coop, set a zone in there called "chicken coop" (or whatever) and assign them to that, etc.

I usually give my dogs free roam of the colony, as long as they don't go past the fences, and stay out of the kitchen/freezer/smelting room. :)

General Discussion / Re: Stockpile logistics question

I tend to make a little 2-3 square storage area in the animal pens and set it to only accept kibble (or whatever the animal likes), with highest priority. That way the animals always have food. :)

Maybe just change the options for crashed survivors?

Instead of "capture" and "rescue", change it to "rescue and recruit" and "rescue and release".

Either way you take them in and patch them up, but that way you don't have to go through the silliness of locking them up.

Survivor: "Hey, thanks for rescuing me from that crashed survival pod. I really, really appreciate it. I would have died! But, uh...why do you have me locked up?"
Colony: "Because we want you to join up."
Survivor: "Um. You could have just ASKED..."

<edit> Just realized Franklin basically said the same thing. :)

General Discussion / Re: Pregnancy

Considering how much couples that are in love/married boink, you'd think the girls would wind up pregnant sooner or later. Maybe they've all got implanted anti-pregnancy devices or something. :)

I'd actually like to have it be an option, really. Especially since one of the colonies I'm playing with is using the "careful preparation" mod, which allows you to set up exactly how you want the colony to start, so I set them up as a group that WANTED to colonize this specific planet, and have no intentions of leaving. 3 couples, 4 kids (teenagers), and 3 unmarried folks, with plenty of supplies, farm animals, and the like, as well as using the dev command to unlock certain techs (like guard turrets) to start out, since they're prepared for this. I'm curious to see how their little colony fares on a hard difficulty. :)

They'll change clothes if what they have is really worn out and they're complaining about it, it seems. I had a girl join my colony last night and she showed up naked, so was complaining about it. I was making some clothes for her, and when I finished the pants one of the other colonists ran over and grabbed them, swapping them out for her own really worn pair. Poor girl had to put on the old raggedy pair until I could make some more. :)

General Discussion / Re: This game is so fun!

I've been enjoying the hell out of Rimworld. Especially after picking up a bunch of mods that let me customize stuff. Normally I don't pick up "early access" games, since I'm always leery of them, but I watched some people playing Rimworld on youtube and thought "wow, that actually looks pretty neat."

So here I am. :)

My bf actually teases me about how much I play, though he's been making noises about possibly picking it up as well, after watching me play. Like the OP, I'd been pondering picking up No Man's Sky as well, but decided against it and got this instead. I made the right choice.

Stories / Re: The saddest Story ever
August 16, 2016, 06:14:18 PM
Saddest one I had was last night. Primarily because of the little backstory I made up for her in my head...

My colonists were busy working, digging out tunnels under the giant mountain we called Olympus, etc, when they got the bleep alerting them to a crashed survival pod. Two of them grabbed their weapons and armor and headed out to investigate. Once there, they found a rather large panther starting to move in to gnaw on the downed surviver. A few shots, and it was gone, and they discovered the survivor was a 20 year old girl. Hauling her back to the colony, they had to fend off another over-eager panther who was drawn by the scent of blood.

Once there, a bit battered and bleeding themselves, they took the girl to the med-bay and started up triage, led by our fearless, one-eyed doctor whose long and consonant-rich name nobody bothered to remember, so they just called him "Doc". It turns out that the girl was one of those vat-grown types, created for the express purpose of being a slave. And after doing that for a while, when she finally started to mature, they sold her as a sex-slave to some other people.

She remained immobile for the week or so she was in the med-bay, slipping in and out of consciousness, while Doc chatted with her during her moments of lucidity. Turns out that the last bastard she'd been sold to had gotten a bit violent for her tastes, and she'd punched him in the face in a momentary act of defiance. So, she was sold to an even more violent man, who was going to work her to death. While en route to the new planet, the ship suffered a massive malfunction, and she ended up getting to a lifepod and fired off in stasis, landing on the planet where our colonists were.

Despite Doc's herculean efforts, she didn't make it, and ended up dying. She was given a dignified burial, and her tombstone marked with a simple statement: "Ellie. Born a slave. Died a free woman."
