I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, I see fences in my build menu and some other things I think are part of the Ideology dlc, but when I start a new colony, it pretty clearly tells me that ideology is not installed.  Is it compatible with Royalty? - Do I need to change some setting somewhere to enable the DLC?

So... I've got a 3 star quest for two rounds of pirate sieges, and I've tried it twice now, and the ~37 pirates come with 5 triple rocket launchers and a doomsday rocket launcher, as well as 2 mortars shooting incendiary rounds.

It appears I've brought a monosword to a rocket launcher fight.  Are there any options besides running away?

(I have 10 colonists, several high level psychics, advanced melee weapons, and 2 miniguns, and unfortunately, zero allies)

General Discussion / Mechanoid Heavy Auto Turrets

Two of these things have landed in my farms now.  Any ideas on how to defeat these?  Even subdividing the map around my base into 11x11 cells I ended up with untraversable cells for a super long time.  I was pretty surprised to find out they had no minimum attack range, so two knights with shield batteries went down almost instantly on one of them.

They seem to be pretty much immune to my standard plate armor plasteel longsword "CHAARRGGGEEEE!!!!!" plan, and they outrange every weapon I've seen (are sniper rifles longer than 46??) with enough long range accuracy to take out legs/torsos in 2-3 volleys.  Do I have to go up all the way to mortars to deal with these things as tribal?

They're also immune to fire unfortunately.  I haven't tried a gigantic army of boars, but I suspect it wouldn't be particularly efficient.  I might have lucked out with a place I can toss frag grenades for one of them... but... damn.  Feels like I'm going to have to steal some mortars... or run away...  (Or New Game- CHARRRRRGGGGEEEE!!!!  ;D)

General Discussion / Thumbs Up On DLC!
February 26, 2020, 05:19:38 AM
Solid dlc.  Today it generated a 4-6 hour story of a tribe that became nobility far too quickly.  They wanted a bed before knowing what a bed was, hats before understanding hats.  Poor Tranca was still upset about never getting that harp.  I reached Knight before popping the ancient danger.

The danger was simple, two charge lance mechs.  With 5 uranium clubs we smashed the first right outside.  Then we charged in, sure to crush the remaining mech easily.

Then, with free reign of the entire map, Boomalope 1 decided, for absolutely no reason, to walk inside the ancient danger exactly as we charged in, ate a charge lance blast, exploded, blew the legs off the knight, set all 5 tribesmen on fire, popped open 4 angry space marines and signaled a simultaneous tribal raid (of one dude who waltzed into the base and lit stuff on fire).

The man in black, husband of the flaming knight, was incapable of firefighting, and watched her and the base burn, before being shot down by 4 angry space marines.

And that's how I learned that psychic pain blocking doesn't stop pawns from running in circles while on fire.

It was a blast.

General Discussion / Free Range Chickens

So I was just caravanning about with some alpaca, and the pregnant alpacas gave birth and added to my caravan.

Does this mean I can send all of my chickens to the caravan and reap the absurd rewards of exponential chicken growth without having them decimate my map?  Will chickens lay eggs?  Will cows generate milk?

There must be some way to exploit not having to feed animals to make enormous herds...

Manhunting Wargs?  An army of centipedes?  300 club wielding cave men?

Chill Out at Kokytos, the corpse freezer with dogs living in it.  At an energy cost of 1/6 of a solar panel, your baby huskies will be safe from all kinds of terrors.  And when they grow up, you can teach them to maintain the freezer for the next generation!  And when you need a bullet sponge, you just let the dogs out!

Add Kokytos to your killbox today.

I'm playing on Cassandra Rough and my "tribe" (of bionic super-whiners) just hit 20 people.  I thought it used to aim for 11-12 before?

Does it increase with wealth now or something?

Bugs / [1.0] Mac Os X, Dark Room At Outpost
December 15, 2018, 07:41:55 PM
Walked to an outpost with my knights.  Room internals are dark as usual.  Smacked the wall and enemy pawns started coming out.  I wedged the door open with their corpses and stormed in.  But I couldn't see anything because the room stayed dark until I broke the door.

General Discussion / 2 AM Ideas
December 11, 2018, 05:33:25 AM
So I've been thinking about how badly my tribe just got wrecked by 40 hives way across the map that I couldn't light on fire (Too many bugs to fight in the open, couldn't hit with stolen mortars).  Could I have just tamed a bunch of boomalopes and zoned them to live among the insects until they starved to death and exploded?  Does that work against pirate settlements too?

Someone must have tried this...

The three Uranium Knights heard the call.  Their plasteel swords went snickersnack and lo, bravely did they behead the 13 Yorkshire Terriers and liberate the 25 glitterworld meds and 150 hyperweave.

General Discussion / Lessons Of The Tribe
May 18, 2018, 11:26:57 PM
Life wasn't easy before electricity.  Save the tribe with tips and tricks!

Instead of slaughtering your muffalo this winter, why not surprise her with a room full of roses, grown indoors by campfire light.  Roses (and dayblooms) grow in 1.5 days in 30% light conditions and provide a delectable .05 nutrition.  Train your growers all year long, and your muffalo (and colonists!) will thank you.  (You can do dandelions in 2.5 days for .18 nutrition outside, but at that point, maybe just switch to haygrass)

Sick of the endless raiding by your mother in law?  We have the perfect surprise for her too!  Just mine 40 jade and place it in the center of your room full of roses.  Now, place a crafting station and convert that beautiful (+6!) jade into a club.  Don't worry, it takes literally 0 crafting skill, and every jade club is better than even a good steel longsword.

So winter is coming quickly, and that last raider torched your food supply before his awful pistol burned through your heal root supply.  Have no fear, you can grow food, healroot, even devilstrand harshest of winters, all you need is a TON of space, a TON of wood, and (optionally) some geothermal geysers.  Remember that temperature in an indoor, but unroofed, space does not instantly equalize with the outdoor temperature.  You can unroof skylights within rooms in your base to grow plants, and use either geothermal geysers or campfires to keep the rooms warm all winter long.

Example: In an 8x8 room with a double thick wooden wall (12x12 total space) around a geyser, you can unroof exactly 15 tiles, leaving a 7x7 space for whatever else you want to build.  Warning:  If you choose to use geysers, watch the temperature inside closely over the non winter months, you may need to unroof, double wall, or even add campfires during a cold snap.  You can also use multiple campfires for truly intense cold.

General Discussion / Temperature Science
February 18, 2017, 08:03:57 PM
I have noticed that rooms with partial roofing, ~85-100% don't immediately match outdoor temperature.  This allowed me to put tiny 2x9 potato farms on the sides of my tribes' bedrooms heated by torch lamps, and a 9x9 devilstrand farm in the castle's grand dining room, growing year round by the camp fire(s).

This becomes a space inefficient (and wood inefficient), but incredibly early in the research tree year round greenhouse that should be good for colder temperate, and potentially boreal forest tribal starts.

Has this been discovered/scienced before?
Are there existing optimized room layouts?
Do we know the exact number of open spaces we can have, or when an extra campfire would do to keep the heat in?

General Discussion / Cassandra's War On Drugs
January 25, 2017, 09:47:36 PM
DuckBoy:  Cassandra, would you tell me a story?

Cassandra:  Sure DuckBoy, did you ever hear the story of Lil Libby?

DuckBoy:  No, tell me!

Cassandra:  Lil Libby grew up on a Glitterworld, far, far away from here.  She was very kind, and very hardworking.  She always dreamed of leaving her home, and flying out to see the galaxy.  So she worked very, very hard, and finally, at the age of 42 she had scrounged up enough money to buy a one way ticket.

Cassandra:  She landed on a Rimworld, just like ours.  It was her lifelong dream.  She got right to work.  She put up solar panels, planted potatoes, and pretty little bed to sleep in.  That first night, she slept staring up the stars.

Cassandra:  The next morning Lil Libby took a single pill, called Wake Up, so she could work even harder.  Then she had a heart attack and died.  The End.

DuckBoy:  Wha...  Whaat?

Cassandra:  I Said, SHE HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED!!

DuckBoy:  Bu But...

Cassandra:  Sleep tight!

General Discussion / Who is Shearing My Camels?
September 18, 2016, 01:11:34 PM
Have you ever tamed a dromedary?  Have you ever noticed that they always start at 0% wool and 0% milk?

I get that they were starving (and thus don't produce anything), but nowhere near the malnutrition(extreme) they hit after I tame them and they still manage to get at least a little bit of growth!

Followup, does malnutrition lower the amount of meat I get from the animals, or can I keep all my animals on the brink of death rather than making a refrigerator?

General Discussion / Well that was anti climactic

The story of a rich psychotic.
He kidnapped a trader bionic.
A wanderer grew plants,
But rejected his romance,
So he shot her to death.

He once had a cat named Blueprint
In the colony that he called Flint
His cat ate some kibble
Made of human and turtle,
But that damn wanderer sold the cat for 3 medicine

The trader who had been locked up
Was released to help patch him up
Cargo dropped confections
Helped stop an infection
Too bad that the trader caught fire

The raiders were stealing his silver
But with Go juice, he could deliver
three shots from his rifle,
and a grenade to stifle,
Then he straight up died of a heart attack

He was only 48!  On day 27.  Cassandra, why are you so cruel?
