Except vanilla RimWorld is an excellent game.

Opinions are like that, deal with it; not everyone agrees with you.  Over 1 million copies sold and "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam completely invalidate your drama, that simple.  You're whining about a $35 game and $20 *optional* DLC, 3 movies' worth of cash combined, that can potentially give back hundreds, or even thousands of hours of enjoyment, if you like the game at all.  And if not, WTF are you buying the DLC for?!

Nor could you, I'll note, play a single mod without the base game.  Yeah, RW "sucks" soooo much, yet you play your modded game all the same, don't you?  Yeah, whatever; talk to the hand... ::)

Quote from: SAG on February 29, 2020, 09:46:03 AMHey, everybody, let's all tell the outrageously successful game dev, how to do his job better.
I'm sure Tynan is clean as a whistle and this isn't implying anything about his actual habits, but...times like this make me hope very strongly he's reading this kind of thing, in between snorting coke off each breast of a row of hookers ::).

By the by, anyone thinking Ludeon gets to keep 100% of sales as profits, need not apply for a game development position; you're a bit thick.

I'm pretty sure everyone here is merely stating their opinion; relax ;).  Just interpret it as was meant: "I don't wanna have this stuff displayed unless I ask for it."

Quote from: Tynan on February 28, 2020, 07:28:05 AMThe other option is to start looking at new ways of handling this. E.g. player can get a scanner-like building that creates quests. So by default you get half the current quests for free, but you can apply pawn time to get more quest opportunities if you want. Something structurally like that might work, though it's hard to justify fictionally (or is it? Pay for the rimworld equivalent of google ads...).
Why not simply tie it to the Comms Console?  It makes sense that, while you can get quests by word-of-mouth/rumor, many require talking to others much farther way/in a wider area.

Of course, compared to a unique building, this would also cause some issues for those who still want longer quest intervals, once built, but it would gate the extra quests much further into a colony's future than what we see presently.

It's the mean time between prison break. It doesn't predict the number of days before escape.

So it's just a proxy for how well your prisoner is feeling.
It simply gives too much information.  Even with a "fudge factor", there's large swaths of time that you can be almost certain no prison break will happen. I wouldn't mind this as a toggle-able feature OR a mod, but it's puzzling as a direct inclusion in the vanilla game.

What bothers me most is the immediate pivot from "Why no updates?  Is RW dead/abandoned?" to "ZOMG Why did you update?!"

I'd guess you're far more likely to see this in some sort of mod.  Modded storytellers are quite common.

Personally, while I'm not tempted by the Royalty DLC, I'm also not "disappointed" in any meaningful way, beyond a sort of shrug and "Oh, well."  In fact, I'm more pleased than not, because 1.1 adds a lot of super-cool new stuff.  I'm especially looking forward to what it will likely mean to the mod community, from what I've seen mentioned.

It's just DLC.  If you think it's worth the money, it is.  If not, it isn't.  Either way, DLC sales mean more money to Ludeon, which means continuing development.  Even if you don't like THIS DLC, after all, who's to say about the next?  Or what changes will be added to the vanilla game?

General Discussion / Re: 1.1 Broke my 6 year save

Use Fluffy's Mod Manager and make local copies of any Workshop mods.  This will fully solve your problem, next time.

General Discussion / Re: Performance @ 1.1

It's probably best to look for performance gains in saves that [started in the new version, to make sure there's no artefacts from the conversion ^^'.

Hey, thanks for the FF mention; I always forget to recommend closing any browser (all are notorious memory and CPU hogs) when these threads pop up.  Derp ::) ...

I just don't get the point of the botswarm =p.  I mean, I understand it, I guess, but I don't buy from legit online adds, much less the hinky bullshit they always try to peddle.  So who the heck is giving them the traffic that justifies the effort?

Sadly, CAPTCHA and ReCAPTCHA have been busted for a good while, now :P.  It seems to me that the only real, effective option is a constantly-changing set of simple logic word problems, that AI would have a hard time with, somewhat like the old system but significantly more in depth and changed far more often.

RuntimeGC only helps additional late-game stutter, caused by the proliferation of "known" pawns and associated event history (used a lot for artworks, among other things).

Beyond bugfixes and name-in-game updates, yes, RW is complete.

Please note, however that a) this is a boon to mod writers, since they don't need to update quite so often, and b) updating for a new version of Unity is NOT trivial; it would require a rewrite of the entire game and is quite out of the scope of a minor update.
