Mechaniods usually give way more plasteel in my opinion. Late game you'll literally be swimming in it.

The thing is...spamming stone traps is still super effective. My two-tile-wide corridor of death is still killing raiders left and right. I picked stone because I am playing on a desert biome. If I were playing on a temperate forest, I imagine I would just mass wooden traps everywhere ;P

I've been trying this middle ground solution that some of you have suggested and it's working pretty well, so thanks!
So I just set the "cook simple bill" to do until 5 (or however many colonists I have), and then I set pause when finished and unpause at 0. That way the colony will produce JUST enough simple meals for the pawns to eat and nothing will deteriorate. I think it's the perfect middle ground solution for now.

General Discussion / Should we incorporate the "replace stuff" mod into the base game?
August 29, 2018, 08:50:33 AM
It basically allows you to just replace the material of something without having to deconstruct it.
Like replacing a wooden wall with stone material.
Check this out on steam workshop.

Yeah but then you gotta set up a freezer. I can have a giant food storage area for raw corn, but you can't really have a giant freezer because that'll cost you too much power. Plus, 4 huskies can easily haul all the corn in the world back to storage. All you really need is just one farmer...who works only like 2 months per year and you're set.

I don't recall the dispenser having an option to create meals - maybe this is a mod? Usually a pawn automatically interacts with the device to produce a meal when desired.
If so, can anyone please tell me which mod this is from? Thanks! I have way too many mods and there's no way for me to know...

Nope. Had already set patient to 2 and doctoring to 1. You are the one who misunderstood the situation I was describing. Also, if someone gets injured AFTER your doctor goes to sleep, your doctor won't wake up to treat the injured person at all. And they go to sleep a lot when they have sensory mechanites and whatnot.
Your solution to this problem is just..."throw in more doctors!"
Uhm...how about we just perfect the logic of one single doctor first, eh?

Do you still have to micro the nutrient paste machine to dispense food in B19? Because I find it super tedious that I have to click "nutrient paste x 5" every time I wanna feed the colonists.
Also, you still need to haul the raw food onto the machine hoppers. That's a bit of labor that I don't wanna deal with. If food poisoning is that bad in B19 though, I might really reconsider doing nutrient paste instead, despite the micro.

If you get a large enough field, the food is almost infinite. Why even tie up a pawn when they can be doing something more important? Plus, simple meals rot really quickly. Then you'll have to bother with setting up a cooler and everything...with raw corn, you can live happily without ever worrying about any of that.

Sure, the colonists might complain about raw food, but it just saves soooo much cooking/hauling time if you just leave them as raw corn. You won't even need a freezer. You just need a huge food storage area. I've been harvesting only once every two years, and I'm super happy about that. Have you guys tried this before?

Problem with doctor microing easily solvable with vanilla tools. 2-3 doctors at different shifts can patch patients 24/7. If colony cant afford more than 1 doctor... well, its a small colony and microing must not be a problem.
PS Like mentioned few posts above - use work hours if you want pawns to do job. During this hours pawns dont sleep and dont do joy activity(still can eat).
PPS Also, avoid using doctors in fights. Healthy(without manupilation/sigh/consciousness problems), rested and feeded doctor DO his work and dont go to eat due to starvation, dont break in middle of operation due to mood problems, and dont drop to ground because he run with sniper rifle from centipedes previous 24 hours.
Good advice, but when your doctor has "sensory mechanite" or something and he goes to "rest". You'd know what I'm talking about. It doesn't even matter if you turned on self tending or the doctor is supposed to be working. Nothing matters because he will just go straight towards that hospital bed and ignore the dying colonist you just rescued. He won't even heal himself. Nope, he's just gonna lay there waiting for another doctor to take care of things.

+1 doctors should prioritize tending over eat, sleep or smoke. Had a self-tend enabled doctor go to sleep and bleed to death, once.
I think Smart Medicine increases the priority for tending. It has other neat features, like automating different medicine types for different wounds. Dunno about .19 support.

e. 1.0 version, didn't try it. https://github.com/alextd/Rimworld-SmartMedicine/releases
That looks interesting, but I looked through the mod's page and didn't find anything that says it'd up the tending priority...

It's just so annoying that we still can't automate this part of the game. I'm a little tired of microing it every time someone gets a little cut. Also, is there a mod that can fix this? Thanks!
