Ideas / Re: Thoughts for certain amounts of Rest

That's why later on, it's best to schedule one hour of sleep followed by "anything". Then they go to bed at the defined time (unless you tire them out with drafting or forced work for example) and wake up whenever they want.

True, I suppose - to an extent
Things just seem off though with everything out of sync. It affects night owls too though, as they'll end up waking up during daytime at times.

Ideas / Thoughts for being Poorly or Well Rested
December 23, 2016, 08:31:20 AM
One thing I've noticed in my big Alpha 15 colony was that although everybody had at least Excellent quality royal beds, the rest effectiveness would completely throw sleeping patterns out of wack when it compares to the schedule (e.g. schedule is to sleep from 10PM-6AM, but people would possibly wake up as early as 3AM due to the extreme rest effectiveness of royal beds and the bonus of excellent quality)

I believe that an offset to this would be a thought system for a colonist having certain amounts of rest other than just exhausted, very tired, and tired. However, rest only goes up at 30% of the full rate dependent on bed once it passes 100%, and colonists won't wake up regardless of rest amount until the end of the sleeping period. These are the thoughts and requirements I have in mind:

Poorly Rested (-3): 75-89% Rest, only occurs if one wakes up but only with 75-89% rest (i.e. doesn't occur if one's already awake). Thought: "I feel heavy and tired from not having enough sleep. Can't we get better beds around here, or a better sleeping schedule?". Lasts until the colonist feels tired, or after 10 hours.

Well Rested (+2): 104-110% Rest, only occurs if one wakes up from sleeping within this region during the sleeping schedule. Thought: I feel refreshed from having a good night's sleep, and I'm prepared to face another day. Lasts until rest falls below 104%

Very Well Rested (+4): 111%-120% Rest, only occurs if one wakes up from sleeping within this region during the sleeping schedule. Thought: I feel absolutely rejuvenated from an excellent night's sleep, and I'm ready to take the day head-on! Lasts until rest falls below 111%

I'd be very appreciative of at least seeing this and considering, but it's okay otherwise too; This is just one of those little things which'd perhaps spice things up a little more.

The mood system is broken, but not in the way you've said.

The big problem with the mood system right now IMO is that the numbers for buffs and debuffs are all over the place, especially debuffs. But the system just falls to pieces when Starvation occurs.

Starvation (Trivial) is -22. Its described as feeling fuzzy and unfocused. Thats a ludicrous number when you compare it to certain other debuffs. It jumps to -29 at moderate.

Being in crippling pain where a colonist is literally screaming "KILL ME NOW" is -20, Killing someone by harvesting their organs is a -6 (On top of a -7 for them dying). Losing your child is -25, so is losing a spouse.

But hold on, Very Comfortable is a +6, and people routinely get that by sleeping in a poor quality wooden bed! Even a normal bed can trip the extremely comfortable +8 bonus.

So tearing some dudes heart out is sad (-13), but having a pretty okay bed (+8) and steak for dinner (+5) makes it all better?

Starvation is the big one though, because when people get starvation debuff, they usually break extremely quickly. -22 is HUGE early game, and what happens when a colonist breaks? Oh. They don't eat. Well thats fantastic.

I literally had a colonist do "sad wander" from not getting any food, then wander around outside in a snow storm while new food was brought in until they starved to death while there was food in the fridge.

I had another berserk due to lack of food While he was eating his food, then die of starvation because berserking people won't eat.

Yeah, I hate it when that happens. I've literally had colonists to break for being hungry, while they're eating!

I've yet to have something as extreme as actual death happening, but it's still somewhat ridiculous (in a comical way) that one has a mental breakdown for not eating while they're eating their human meat delicious meal.

General Discussion / Re: Using ludeonicrous?

I generally keep to 300x300 (even though I'm rocking an i7-3770K) due to the games single-core nature. Slowdown does start to happen in larger colonies at 3x speed about 4 or so years into the game with a fair sized colony (around 10 colonists)

Diseases did apparently seem more scary when reading up stories on Reddit, but they're still not awfully scary upon closer inspection.

You still don't really need anybody who's awfully good at medicine or stacks of Glitterworld medicine. You only need a half-decent doctor (8+ medicine skill) and ordinary medicine, and you'll be set for most cases then (exceptions of perhaps those above 65-70 years of age, depending on what RNG feels like doing).

Heat insulation works perfectly fine for dusters and cowboy hats (e.g. Awful Cloth still insulates 10.5°C heat), but cold still stays at 15°C regardless of Awful or Legendary quality.

I think it's safe to say that it's broken for now

I've noticed that cold insulation figures on apparel will still remain at baseline regardless of quality (whether Awful or Superior for instance); an Awful Duster will still protect from 15°C of cold, and 10.5°C of heat (the latter as it should).

A Superior Cloth Parka also still only protects from 40°C of Cold, whereas it should protect from 44°C cold. It's nothing really major, but definitely needs looking into.

Protection figures also work fine.

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah, I've noticed this too

Must be a glitch or something, as it's fine for heat. My first A16 colony also had a dead man's Superior Cloth Parka which still only insulated 40C when a Superior Cloth Parka should insulate from 44C.

Dusters on the other hand work properly, and protection factors are also OK; it's just the cold insulation that's broken.

That's one reason why I generally prefer a combination of Timber Wolves and Bears. While bears can drink, they'll generally try to hunt first - and wolves are teetotallers.

I picked 3 of my favourite colonsits in my sizeable main colony, although you obviously don't have to do all 3 if you don't feel it.

Thanks in advance ^_^
