Stories / Re: whats your most pathetic colonist death?.
September 02, 2017, 06:45:52 PM
While not one of my colonists, I did rescue a woman who crash landed. However, she was in a hurry to get out of my colony, even though she was married to somebody in my colony.

I take her to the hospital and patch her up. As soon as she can walk she wanders off, slowly as she can't move fast, and ends up getting eaten by a cougar.

Ideas / Re: Neolithic Mortars
September 02, 2017, 06:11:44 PM
I don't know, I think a catapult or trebuchet would be too advanced for neolithic factions, and would lessen their distinction. Their advantage is intended to be numbers, not technological abilities.

Of course, there is that elephant in the room of a lack of medieval factions and tech. They should exist given the premise and lore. The game mentions medieval worlds as well as designating some techs as medieval, and it's a significant gap for a game where any technological level could be encountered.

I do like b0rsuk's idea of trained animals being used in raids, though.

General Discussion / Re: best pack animals
September 02, 2017, 10:50:38 AM
I've always seen muffalo as the go to pack animals, with dromedaries as an alternative. Then again, I tend to play in areas that don't have dromedaries.

I had no idea alpaca's could be pack animals, although apparently the only carry half as much, so you'd need twice as many alpaca's as the other two for pack animal purposes.

Generally speaking, I try to keep my people alive and see it through. I only get rid of pawns that are problematic.

If I have a problematic pawn I basically exile them. I have them strip, wait for them to go to sleep, and arrest them but leave the door open so they run for it. Nobody get's upset.

However, if a pawn is just not very useful, they usually have something they can help out with. I always seem to need more haulers and cleaners anyway. Or somebody to do basic crafting like making bricks, or do some mining.

That's an impressive feat.

I've never understood how Thrumbos aren't extinct yet, given their low rate of reproduction and high chance of death from wondering by an accursed "Player Colony".  Men and beast of all kinds are lured there to their doom until the bodies are piled high and fields of bones glisten in the moonlight.

But you're doing your part and giving back to the world.

I don't know about your colonies, but in mine any raiders who don't survive promptly find themselves in the kibble; Rover's gotta eat too, you know  ;)

General Discussion / Re: Introduce yourself!
September 01, 2017, 04:53:44 PM
I haven't been online in forever, only made one post to report a bug, and have lurked since. But this is an interesting game that makes for some interesting stories, even if it's mostly pseudo random events. It can be very entertaining too as this game doesn't take itself too seriously.

Anyway, I want to join the discussion, especially as the other forums I visit have been lacking lately  :(

-What introduced you to RimWorld? Or to this style of game in general?

IIRC somebody was talking about it on the 7 Days to Die forums, and, as somebody who enjoys strategy and management games from time to time (as well as being interested by the concept behind Rimworld), decided to look up Rimworld and watched a couple of let's plays. Nothing too intensive or spoiling, but enough to know what kind of game I was getting into before I bought it.

-What are your favorite games? (This is probably going to be quite a list)

7 Days to Die is easily one of my favorite games, at least for the past couple of years. It's my most played game on Steam.

I really enjoy the Fallout series (except for 3) as well as the Elder Scrolls series.

Online gaming-wise I'd say Overwatch. I used to like Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 2 & 3, as well as World at War and the first Black Ops.

The PS 2 Ratchet and Clank games were amazing.

The older Command and Conquer games were great, so was Age of Empire 2. I also really enjoyed Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 when I was younger.

DOOM is a classic (the new one is pretty good too). Just forget the 3rd game happened.

I think that's everything :)

-Most embarrassing gaming-related story?

I'd have to say how I used to rage when I was growing up. Had some anger management problems back then. I once smashed my PS 3 controller in response to a few bad matches in Modern Warfare 3. It seems so stupid now, looking back. Like, seriously, I void my bowels over that game for some reason, but I kept playing (I did grow to like the game and not rage so much after that incident).

-What kind of breakfast cereal is the best?

The healthy kind, at least the somewhat healthy kind. Stuff like raisin bran, or the Kashi stuff with almonds and granola. The super sugary cereals are garbage. But cereal really isn't that exciting to me.

-What other interests do you have?

Other than gaming, of course, I really enjoy comedy and music. I also have an interest in computers (such as programming and hardware), and have recently been reading some books on physics (like Michiu Kaku and Neil DeGrasse Tyson).

Comedy wise I mostly enjoy satire and farce. A good parody is quite enjoyable as well.

When it comes to music I listen to all shades of metal and some rock. I also like listening to industrial music, some forms of EDM (like hardstyle) & dubstep (I really like glitch hop, gang step, and  drum and bass influenced stuff), and some classical / symphonic stuff.
