General Discussion / Super stupid things you've done
February 24, 2017, 06:00:53 PM
I was trying to make an "excellent" level survival rifle or better.  I had plenty of materials and was getting mad  because I could have sworn I'd seen people constantly making them then they'd disappear into thin air.  After a ton of lost materials and 2 weeks of time I decided to just watch what happened upon completion.  Upon completion the pawn immediately took 3 steps to the smelter and melted it down.  Oops!  :P  I forgot at one point I deemed survival rifles and pistols worthless so I'd set an auto-bill to always melt them down.  I thought I'd only had it set to just melt down low hp weapons.

Does smelting a weapon give you anything except steel?  Do you get any components back out of it?

Because the competition has water in it (Oxygen Not Included) and it is awesome. Its time we see water in this game!

Saying OnI is competition/akin to Rimworld is like saying a Mario platformer is akin to Ultima IV.  Outside of the survival theme they're world apart.

I'm going to go assault an enemy base for the first time ever.  In light of that, do the suggestions stay the same?  I have no idea what base assault is like.

I have lots of herbal medicine so I just let them pop into the hospital when they like and it's been no problem at all except for my one guy that was already in a lot of pain.  In fact, I might go invade someone now!

Thanks, I'll use this information at some point too!

Why would people choose Survival rifle over sniper rifles for those 6 people?  I actually melted them all down as I thought they were supplanted by everything else.

I am sooo indecisive.  I have lots of weapons I've crafted and have 6 of my 22 colonists with the careful shooter trait, and I still can't decide what I should saddle them with, so they have one of each decent weapon type for now but I can't help but think I might be better served with those 6 having sniper rifles, or LMG's, or charged rifles.  What do you think?

BTW I have 2 trigger happy pawns and I gave them miniguns.

Just got this disease with 10 colonists (advanced colony).  Eek!  So, should I just leave it untreated or send them to hospital for treatment.  It's my short growing season so I'm not sure how I want to handle this.

In favor of waiting, keeps modders happier and I am a big fan of mods.

Actually the most prolific modders said to not wait.

What kind of impact does this have on performance?  Seems like it might be quite a bit extra strain computationally?

Releases / Re: [A16] Better Pawn Control (v1.4.3)

Spacedorf directed me to this thread.  If I'm seeing this correctly there's a way to mass assign all my colonists clothing options?  Like once I've setup Heatwave, Cold spell, Combat attire - I can do a click or two and have it apply to everyone?

Ideas / Re: Readdressing surgery and body part health

I did not know bionic arms would make a doctor better at doctoring.  Does that mean it would make a person better at crafting as well?

Ideas / Re: Nutrient Paste Dispensers

Being a player of the early alpha, I know why they were in the game. For a long time they were honestly the only option for early meals. But these days they've been made redundant by cook stoves, and for some groups they're even impossible to build without a lot of research.

Except for a couple niche situations they're really not that useful anymore. They're space and resource intensive and even a basic meal is better than them.

To give them a bit more use I'd like to suggest allowing them to use Hay as a feed stock. If you're just reprocessing organic matter, the original form shouldn't matter and it would give them an additional level emergency practicality.

Maybe just make nutrient paste last a really long time? Like a high tier pemmican? Or perhaps make that an offshoot research topic?

I think both these ideas should be incorporated as they sound like the perfect answer to something I also never have a need to use.
