Ideas / Re: Thinking beyond 'Joy': Law and Order

I can just imagine people making colonies with Singapore like legal systems:" Oh you puked on the butchery table. Twenty lashings!"

Ideas / Re: Tribal Improvements (Cheap?)
March 31, 2015, 11:48:21 PM
Tribal besiegers could simply build onagers and fling boulders or pots of oil into one's colony.
Combine that with timed massive tribal zerg rushes, and they could destroy many more colonies.

I'm always for more options.

Perhaps a challenge for mountain bases could be asbestos veins, if mined into the lungs of the colonists would be ravaged and require replacement.  Depending on timing the effect could range from annoying to utterly debilitating.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but how about a computer game?

It could be a game about some people who get stranded on a planet and have to build things to survive and find ways to entertain themselves such as playing a computer game, which could be about some people who get stranded on a planet and have to build things to survive and find ways to entertain themselves such as playing a computer game, which could be about some people who get stranded on a planet and have to build things to survive and find ways to entertain themselves such as playing a computer game . . .

Oh I'm getting a headache.
This reminds me of the time someone made a working four operation calculator with redstone in Minecraft.
The rimworld ception would be INFINITE!

Wow....

I get to maybe 10 and start to find that the game doesn't want you to have anymore with the 99% difficulty to recruit.
Put cowboy hats on your wardens, and give the really Social skilled colonists priority 1 Warden labor.  Okay, so you might have to build an actual prison with multiple beds and some dudes might be chilling there for a while, get the Prison Improvements mod to make constructing and managing your prison more interesting (absolutely not required though).

More than just wardens, put cowboy hats on everyone.  Notable difference in mood.

...if we can make armor out of 'stuff' then that would be nice.  power armor and guns i can see being more complex but even they shouldnt be out of reach compared to the other things we can make like an anti-matter reactor.

All I could imagine was someone walking around with large granite plates strapped onto their chest and legs. ;D I believe that guns and armor should be researchable mechanics in the game, but the process of making them shouldn't be easy.  Like there could be tiered armor, ranging from chainmail to plate armor.  The crafting time on them could also be high and quality would be heavily reliant on a high crafting skill.

Agreed.  The truth is that wooden armor would be quite effective against shoddy shivs and bows, at least improving your colonist's odds of survival a bit.

1) Food in hoppers does spoil unless refrigerated.
2) As of now there is not.
3) Yes, it is called a "power switch"(in the most recent alpha.)
4) Butchering is classified under the cooking skill.
5) The "X" is in a different place on the item as well as being a different shade of red.  Learn to differentiate.

Type vehicles in the search bar, it's been suggested a lot.
I think it would just take a long while to implement. Tynan is adding and refining simpler ideas right now to make the core game more playable. It would probably take an entire alpha just to get vehicles slightly working. But don't worry, I think we'll see them eventually.
^ True

It would take far too long to be viable now, but maybe someday.

General Discussion / Re: How to make money?
March 21, 2015, 11:47:22 PM
Step 1: Allow human corpses at butchery table.
Step 2: Sell human meat and leather.
Step 3: Buy artistic or crafting neurotrainers.
Step 4: GAME THE SYSTEM!!!

Stories / Re: Proposal: A rimworld novel

I would try, if I weren't already writing an original science fiction novel.

Another change to battery blowouts:
The chance would be extremely low if all conduits are fully repaired, as conduits become damaged the chance of a blowout increases exponentially.

I preferred calling it "joy".
"Joy" is less likely to be misinterpreted on the forum than "fun". I find it more serious too.

But I don't really mind.
A fair point, but I would not define Boxing as a joyous activity, despite it being fun.
