Having some semblance of religion could be problematic (dramatic) by causing religious conflict and anti joy(cough...crusades...cough).

With the way things currently work melee is pretty balanced with melee. All these flint locks would be are pistols that take sniper time to fire.
The game just won't work well with these mind as well use fists TBH.

Fill in all the doorways/halls with brick walls as fast as you can and let them beat on those (while your guys repair them from the other side) until they get tired of beating on them and give up and leave. This method has saved my bacon on two occasions and once was in a solar flare. I was SO lucky to have a pile of slate bricks stockpiled in the next room where I had been saving them up for some fancy walls or some dumb thing. Learned a valuable lesson. Now I keep a pile of bricks at every exit in case we need to go into emergency mole mode.

Maybe brain damage could be made a little more complex than it currently is - damage to the brain does not necessarily mean that a person is unable to walk, talk, eat and use their hands properly. You could get only one of those effects, or all of them, but brain damage does not necessarily turn a person into a vegetable. It seems reasonable to me that a person with minor brain damage could lose the use of their legs (or entire body), but remain relatively coherent, mentally. Or the other way around.
A bit of randomization could make it more interesting I think.
