Having some semblance of religion could be problematic (dramatic) by causing religious conflict and anti joy(cough...crusades...cough).

With the way things currently work melee is pretty balanced with melee. All these flint locks would be are pistols that take sniper time to fire.

The game just won't work well with these mind as well use fists TBH.
Yep, it would make melee that much more viable.

A cool idea, but it would either be utterly gamebreaking or pointless.

Yes.
This would make the npd worthwhile, especially early game when you don't have the spare time to stockpile pre cooked meals. Late game it really makes no difference  as currently I can have my level 19 cooks simply crate a backlog of meals for the aforementioned events.

Or how about outlander towns having an intermediate level of equipment.
Example: Instead of a member of an outlander town coming with an R4 they would come with a Springfield trapdoor 45/70 rifle.

Or how about this:
Large sealed mountain bases would require some outside air intake to prevent the air inside from becoming stale and unbreathable.  Pirates would set off gas grenades which would incap your colonists.   Tribals would place a pan of onion juice in front of the air vent, this would decrease the colonists sight by 90% and cause severe pain.
Problem solved.

Differentiate between stranger and colonist graves in the construction menu.  Both options would produce the same grave, only with different corpses allowed.  This would eliminate manually adjusting graves individually to the desired settings.

I'm feeling medieval:

        Tournament melees (trains melee)
        Boxing (trains melee)
        Jousting (trains melee)
        Gambling (trains social)
        Archery competition (trains shooting)
        Bearbaiting

Proceed to hack off the infected body part, it cures them instantly.

Fill in all the doorways/halls with brick walls as fast as you can and let them beat on those (while your guys repair them from the other side) until they get tired of beating on them and give up and leave. This method has saved my bacon on two occasions and once was in a solar flare. I was SO lucky to have a pile of slate bricks stockpiled in the next room where I had been saving them up for some fancy walls or some dumb thing. Learned a valuable lesson. Now I keep a pile of bricks at every exit in case we need to go into emergency mole mode.

This works, I know from experience. I also typed an excellent reply, but the forum crapped out on me.
This is the short version:
Build a waffle killbox, they are much more forgiving during power outages because they slow raiders so much.
Here is a design which I have been building unchanged for four consecutive alphas.  Use it well, young apprentice.

General Discussion / Re: Brain Damage

Maybe brain damage could be made a little more complex than it currently is - damage to the brain does not necessarily mean that a person is unable to walk, talk, eat and use their hands properly. You could get only one of those effects, or all of them, but brain damage does not necessarily turn a person into a vegetable. It seems reasonable to me that a person with minor brain damage could lose the use of their legs (or entire body), but remain relatively coherent, mentally. Or the other way around.

A bit of randomization could make it more interesting I think.
Yes!

Anyone know the case of Phineas Gage  (had a tamping iron blasted through his eye socket and proceeded to lose his inhibition, respect, and social skills).  Cases like that could add to the drama, and make brain damaged colonists less monotonous(I might not have to starve them any more).

Ideas / Re: cobras are too agressive
March 08, 2015, 10:33:39 PM
Currently in the middle of a 5 year jungle longplay and  cobras seem no more aggressive than other types of animals.
Use a single hunter with a short range weapon for hunting to reduce population.
